บท 16: Lab escape!

Seeing the tiger run out of the lab the other monsters followed tightly behind. Taking another glance at the snake the rabbit also hopped out of the room. Not caring about the other monsters the snake slithered up to the only cage that didn't open. Feeling the monster inside it at a close distance rather than from afar made the snakes' shiver slightly as a trace of excitement and possessiveness appeared in its eyes. Not wanting to waste any more time the snake opened its mouth wide and swallowed the cage whole. As soon as the cage entered its mouth the snake began to shiver so hard it looked like it was squirming on the floor. After a few minutes it finally calmed down but its eyes were glazed over and its body would twitch a bit at the slightest movement. Slithering out of the lab the snake also headed to the exit.

Outside the lab sounds of fighting could be heard. The usually empty hallway was filled with monsters, dozens of strange creatures and mechanical arms sticking from the wall. Some of them were empty-handed and would just grab a monster and crush it. Others had different types of weapons slaughtering and monsters that got within their reach. The strange creatures looked to have come from some of the closed doors scattered around the hallway. All of them were of different shapes and sizes.

"Isn't that Martin!? How did he end up like that!?" One of the escaping monsters seemed to have recognized one of the strange creatures. If not for the creature still being fairly intact the monster wouldn't have recognized the strange creature. It was a wolf type monster. Originally it used to have a midnight blue coat of fur. Now its fur was blood red and standing on ends as it attacked other monsters while growling and frothing at the mouth. On its back was a line of tubes that went down its spine.

Even though the snake didn't care about the strange, it too also recognized several of the monsters. Seeing the fighting the snake wanted to move forward. Coiling its body like a spring the snake the pushed off the ground with great momentum. Shooting over monsters and strange creatures, it was prepared to defend against several attacks from some of the strange creatures since an airborne target was an easy target but it had confidence in its defensive abilities. What confused it was that although some of them turned in its direction they would pause for a second then continue to attack other monsters.

Losing momentum the snake realized that it was gonna land within the attack range of a mechanical arm. Just as it entered its range the arm swung in its direction, seeing this the snake curled up mid-air and activated a defensive skill causing it to shine sliver. Ready for the impact, the snake was prepared to use the force of the hit to gain a few more seconds of air time. But what it expected never came. The arm dodged past the snake and grabbed a yellow-colored bird that had been using the snake for cover.

"Squawk!"

Shocked the bird didn't even have time to respond when the arm snatched it up and began pounding it into to ground. After a good few smashes the bird had already turned into a mangled corpse but the arm still gave a few more pounds for good measure before tossing it aside. Because of the unexpected situation, the snake hit the ground with a 'Thud' and stared at the arm as it completely ignores it and reached for another monster. Once again a poor monster was introduced intimately to the floor.

After a few more monsters were pounded to meat sauce, the snake snapped out of its daze and moved around the arm. Seeing it not attack it, it moved to the next mechanical arms area ready to activate its defensive skill at a moment's notice. Once again the arm ignored it. With that, the snake no longer hesitated and began to speed through the locations of the arms. After a few minutes, the snake finally made it through the hallway where it found Gus and the white rabbit fighting several mechanical arms and a strange creature. There was another monster standing in front of the stairway. Gus and the rabbit also notice it, although shocked that it made it here without a scratch Gus still called out to the snake.

"Oi! Come help us out here after we pass these well be home free and out of the city before they know it!"

Even though he was out of breath and had a few patches of missing hair, the tiger was excited to see the final exit. The rabbit was also missing some hair on its tail. Seems that it had a close shave, otherwise it might have lost its bottom half. The stairway had a cluster of mechanical arms on it. So many in fact that it was wondering how in the world they would get past them. Thinking back to the arms from earlier the snake was wondering if it could still get past, putting that to the back of its mind the snake turned to the two strange creatures that Gus and the rabbit were fighting. The strange creature they were fighting was a dog-shaped strange creature that had 3 heads. Only the middle head was that of a dog, the other 2 was a bird head and a turtle head.

The one that really caught the snakes' attention was the other strange creature. All of the others would attack anything on sight but this one had been standing in front of the stairs like a guardian statue. This one was a rare stone monster. It was one of the few monsters that had a good relationship with humans. There were a few who even allowed humans to carve them into different shapes. This one was clearly carved into the likeness of an upper middle-aged man. Although the stone man was completely gray it was clear that the person who it was carved after was a very kindhearted person. The snake almost had the impulse to submit to it. If not for the continuous tingling coming from its stomach, it might have lost some of its fighting will.

The snake decided to join hands with the other 2 to take down the dog type strange creature. It wasn't that strong and only its three heads were annoying. Since the Stoneman wasn't moving they figured they could fight it last. With a mighty roar, Gus rushed forward, his strips and claws glowed with a red light as he rushed towards the middle head. The rabbit said nothing but his eyes shone a soft sliver and he suddenly blurred into motion, instantly he appeared above the bird's head and unleashed a devastating kick.

'Bam!' 'Bark!' 'Awoo!'

The bird head almost caved in from the blow and was knocked out. Both the turtle head and dog head were furious. Since the skill the rabbit used had a bit of a backlash so it had froze for a moment in mid-air after the attack. Roaring the dog head opened its mouth to chomp down on the rabbit and the turtle head opened its mouth and fired a blast of water at the rabbit. If either attack hit the rabbit would be heavily injured if not killed but Gus appeared in front of the dog head and waved his claws at its jaw. With a crack, its jaw was practically dislocated. The water blast was almost at the rabbit when a crystal barrier appeared around it and negated the damage though the force of the hit still sent the rabbit flying into one of the walls where he took a little damage no were as much if the attack had hit him. He glanced towards the snake and nodded in gratitude be for resting its self to shake off the backlash from its skill.

The snake ignited the rabbit and also took action. It noticed that the three heads were ignoring it from the start, taking advantage of this it curled up like a spring again and shot into the air. Truthful the snake only had 1 attack skill and the others where defensive skills. In mid air, the snake rotated in on its self and began to spin while its tail end began to glow arriving just above the turtle head it lashed its tail out using the spinning momentum. Sensing the attack the turtle head lifted its head up and condensed a ball of water and was about to fire it but when it saw its attacker it stalled for a moment which lead to it taking the blow to the head clamping its mouth shut causing the condensed water in its mouth to explode. With a muffled bang its mouth was blown open and its jaw was also dislocated. Blood spilled from its mouth and its throat was destroyed.

It wailed in pain but this didn't stop the snake. It had landed on the dogs wide back near one of the tubes that connected to its spine. Although it didn't know what this tube was it had guessed that it was important to the creature. Waving its glowing tail again it smacked the tube heavily. But it didn't break as the snake had expected, only a dent appeared and several cracks spread out across it. The dog seemed to have gone crazy as it began to buck and rushed to crash into a wall to get its attacker off it's back. Seeing this the snake jumped off it's back but not before giving another attack to the tube cracking it opened more. With the hole bigger a blood-red liquid poured out of it as if a dam had broken loose.

The 3 headed dogs seemed to have weakened instantly and slumped to the ground with blank eyes. Seeing this the 3 monsters were surprised and Gus carefully approach it ready for a possible sneak attack. Standing before it he confirmed that it was unresponsive. Taking a glance at the Stoneman and seeing that it hadn't made a single move Gus sighed in relief. If both of them fought at the same time they might not have gotten through them without a sacrifice. The rabbit's backlash had passed and although both the snake and Gus used a bit of mana both of them were combat-ready.

As the 3 monsters approached, the Stoneman eyes snapped open and shined with a blue glow. Sweeping its eyes across the 3 who approached, its eyes landed on the snake and showed a confused expression. Seeing its face both Gus and the rabbit looked at the snake suspiciously. The snake was also confused about seeing its face. Thinking back to earlier the snake wanted to try something but didn't show it on its face. After the stone mans' eyes glowed a few times it picked up its sword and slammed it into the ground and said with a voice that sounded like rocks grinding together.

"All unauthorized individuals shall not pass by me!"

All 3 monsters focused on it knowing that any slip of attention would very well end their life. This time the snake started with a move white light poured out of it and spread to both Gus and the rabbit forming a transparent film around their body. Gus once again charged at the enemy quickly and swung its claws that shined with a red glow. The stone calmly lifted its sword and parried its claws. In the middle of the parry, the rabbit suddenly behind the stone man and unleashed its attack but it felt like it was kicking a metal wall. The snake also arrived next to the Stoneman seemingly prepared to chomp down on it or hit it with its tail.

Just as it was before, the monster was obviously ignoring the snake as it took the chance to slither past the monster looking as if it had missed. Seeing the stone man had no reaction to the snake without even looking at the condition of Gus and the rabbit, it shot forward towards the stairs. Ignoring the mechanical arms it began its climb. Even though the stone man's eyes flicker for a moment it remained silent and resumed its attack on the two monsters. Both Gus and the rabbit were shocked for a moment thus received an attack from the stone man.

"You shall not pass!" Its sword began to glow brown as it rushed towards them with a wide slash.
