Chapter 36 — Sniping From 640 Kilometers Away.
Hearing what Kobayashi said, Jason accepted without any hesitation. This mission was the perfect chance to test out the new added sub-systems and new railgun, after all.
"Okay, I'll accept the mission."
"If things becomes dangerous, immediately abandon the mission. Your safety is the utmost priority," Kobayashi ordered sternly, not simply requesting him about it.
She viewed the worth of Jason more important than the Colony Ship.
"Don't worry, captain," Jason simply smiled confidently. "I will perfectly complete this mission."
Jason then returned inside Rokurome's cockpit again, asking Sasaki to open the sortie lane gate.
"We'll use the usual operations plan. And starting from now on, desclassify the inform about the new weapon. It'll be difficult to contain it now," Kobayashi commanded while overlooking everything within the command room.
"""Roger!""" Yuhata and the two masked assistants replied simultaneously.
And soon enough, the official pilots came to the main lobby after learning about Jason's solo mission. They also learned about the existance of the new long-ranged weapon.
They watched Jason's mission through the large monitor placed within the lobby, exchanging their thoughts with each others.
"Jason is going out alone again?"
"The colony ship is already more than 9,000 kilometers away from Sidonia! How will he even catch up just by himself?"
"Bah, don't worry too much about him. I'm sure he'll manage to catch up sooner or later with his special customized unit."
"Yeah, stop getting shock anymore about Jason. He just lives in a different world compared to us pilot normies."
"I'll say this for you guys—get familiar with it already or else you'll eventually die by being surprised too much."
"Geez, I'm so envious of his ridiculous talent and charm... Damn, I wish was him."
"Bro, no need to feel so jealous, maybe you'll acquire his luck in your next life."
"Fuck you! I don't plan on dying anytime soon!"
"Shut up, you guys! There's many people watching here seriously!"
"She's right, stop babbling around! Just silently wish Jason good luck instead of talking behind his back."

"Sidonia's frontal sortie lane gate has been opened!"
"Unit 666, Rokurome is now launching out!"
The two masked assistants reported Jason's current whereabouts.
Rokurome flashed across the dark tunnel, quickly arriving in space. The main and secondary thrusters activated to their very limits, causing Rokurome to accelerate continuesly.
It flew across the space at an extremely fast speed, even managing to surpass its previous record of flying speed from the past. This was mainly because Jason and Rokurome no longer needed to worry too much about the stress they will suffer during an extreme acceleration state, allowing Rokurome to surpass its own previous limit by a lot.
The Inertia Vector Adaption System also began converting the excess micro-gravity and strong inertia force into spatial energy within the ultra-compact spatial converter storage, the accumulated spatial energy returning back to the space over time.
However, Jason was keeping the release of the spatial energy to the bare minimum level as he have other uses for the spatial energy later on.
"How's the new sub-system looking, Jason?" Sasaki asked by using the video-com or visual feed.
"Not bad at all. I can now further to increase the power output of the thrusters," Jason said briefly in response.
Rokurome continued to accelerate, leaving a dense trail of blue particles, while emmiting a jet-like flying sound that was extremely loud to the ears.
"Crazy! Why does Rokurome seem so much faster than before?"
"I don't know, it might be another addition to the Guardian Knight. But damn, that new weapon is so huge and long... my junior brothers admits its own inferiority."
"Bro, you're much more crazier!"
"I've heard the new Anti-Gauna Railgun can be used for extreme long range sniping. It also uses disposable exploding shells that can easily destroy the True Body."
"We have more ways to fight with the Gauna then. All of use are basically starting to get more overpowered and overgeared!"
"I hope so...."

"The Gauna is 13 kilometers away from the colony ship!"
"However, Rokurome is still 700 kilometers away from the Gauna who's still speeding up even now! At this rate, Rokurome won't reach the target in time!"
Kobayashi looked grim, but she still continued to believe that Jason would make it.
Unlike them who were nervous, Jason remained an immeasurable calmness. He observed the distance between him and the Gauna — 680 kilometers away.
"I'll now proceed to snipe the Gauna from within this distance," Jason said toward the open channel, Rokurome aiming the mass driver at the Gauna's position.
The upgraded sensors worked to their very limits, zooming in closely to the target, while also immediately spotting the unique energy and thermal signature of the Gauna's True Body which acted like a biological energy reactor.
"Are you crazy, Jason!? You won't make it work even if you add the spatial energy to enhance the mass driver! The maximum range will still be about 530 kilometers!" Sasaki was bewildered at Jason's decision.
"I know, but you must also know that the shell will still not lose its strength after reaching the 530 kilometers mark," Jason smiled briefly while looking calm. "So I'll make use of that."
"You mean...?" Sasaki was dumbfounded.
Jason's perception slowed down, his eyes landing upon the Gauna that was also moving quickly, making it more difficult to aim.
However, countless calculations, experience, skills, and tricks were running madly through his mind — All were completely used to find the most optimal way to eliminate the Gauna by just using one shell.
One shot, one kill.
Rokurome continued to accelerate forward while aiming steadily, ready to shoot at any given moment. It wasn't ideal to shoot while accelerating at an extremely fast speed, but Jason says otherwise, as it would further increase the probability of killing the Gauna.
Jason waited for the perfect timing—patiently and calmly, his hands entirely very stable without even shaking subtlely.
His black eye lit up brilliantly with sharp golden light — he suddenly felt as if glanced at the brief future of himself, as if it was just a deja vu or a mere dream, his spatial awareness overflowing and surging everywhere
It made him decide — that it was now the perfect time to shoot.
And thus, Jason and Rokurome pressed the trigger of the mass driver.
The accumulated spatial energy amplified the electromagnetic field, further increasing the acceleration speed, kinetic energy, and forces to their very limits.
And soon—
BOOM!
A wave of white shockwaves spread from the tip of the nozzle, spreading throughout the empty black space.
A bullet flew across the space at a blinding speed without slowing down a bit.
"Pilot Jason fired the mass driver while approximately 640 kilometers away from the Gauna!"
The people within the command room watched silently, a tense sensation wrapping around them.
The bullet travelled in a straight linear pathway, almost as if it was just a resplendent ray of blue light.
Swoosh!
BANG!
It might have lost some forces after exceeding its range, but the bullet managed to successfully pierce the center of the Gauna's body, drilling deeply inside it before eventually exploding into countless micro shrapnells that filled the entirety of the empty Internal body, even managing to destroy the True Body.
BOOM!
The surface of the Gauna's body started to be deformed and distorted, countless small pink bubbles forming across its body before Immediately exploding into countless pinkish bubbles.
"Pilot Jason, has managed to successfully eliminate the Gauna...!"
"No damage sustained to the colony ship!"
Kobayashi let a out small smile behind her mask, feeling relieved that Jason managed to eliminate it, surpassing their expectations yet again.
Sasaki also felt the same.
The official pilots, however, exploded into celebration—rejoicing excitedly and loudly.
"Fuck! That was so cool!"
"What even was that? Sniping from 640 kilometers away!?"
"No, what we should say is how was that even possible!?"
While some were bewildered and celebrating joyfully, others were thinking about the potential of the new weapon.
The mass driver was a weapon capable of once again rewriting the survival rates of the pilots — not in the bad way, but a good way for the whole Sidonia and its official pilots.

After firing the mass driver, Rokurome was thrown into chaos and mess since it fired while flying so extremely. It took some time, but Jason quickly managed to stabilise Rokurome.
"What just happened...?"
Jason wondered about the strange phenomenon that happened earlier, as if he just saw the brief future. It was also a familiar sensation, as if he had once experienced using It.
However, he was uncertain because it felt so hazy and imaginary.
Even Mr. Alien said that Jason was just hallucinating about seeing the future while his brain was immersed deeply in concentration.
