บท 33: Chapter 33. Expedition into the Menagerie
( Morning in Kuo Kuana)
After promising Kali the umpteenth time that I will take every precaution in the expedition she finally let me go while Ghira wished me luck. I made my way to the meeting point and saw Lemiel in her usual maid outfit but with armor, on her arms and legs which made me think of bikini armor, you see in some games. I saw that the expedition team had 4 others aside from me and Lemiel, she introduced them in order. The first one was a kimono dragon Faunus by the name of Drake, he was a towering 7-foot tall behemoth and his Faunus creature was a reptilian mouth that gave him a face that only a mother could love. He had grayish-green short hair with pitch-black eyes, his outfit was a green tunic with brown shorts and his weapon he had on him was a large halberd. Next was a gecko Fanus that goes by Moria he was a short 5-foot 8 with black spiky hair and amber color eyes with a slit pupil.
His Fanus feature was his hands that looked just like a gecko's, he was wearing a purple shirt with black pants and he didn't have any weapon on him but he did have holsters filled with dust. After him, was a cobra Faunus named Akilah who had bright orange-colored hair with yellow eyes and her Faunus feature was a cobra hood that could pop out from the side of her head to the base of her neck. She was taller than Moria by 3 inches and her outfit was an orange tank top with light brown short shorts with a machete strapped to her side. The last one was the one that got my attention the moment I saw the group she was a beautiful white wolf Faunus called Tsukuyomi that had wolf ears atop her head, her long hair that reached her back went from white at the base to a light pink color towards halfway at the end. She has snow-white skin and her eyes were the same color as gold that had red markings underneath them. Her outfit was similar to a Japanese Miko's with some modifications like it being sleeveless with short red hakama that came just past her knees with white stocking coming up over them with sandals.
Once Lemiel introduced everybody to each other she called our attention to her and she explained.
Lemiel: Okay now that I have everyone's attention listen up because I won't repeat myself twice. First off thank you for coming on this expedition of mine, now with that out of the way I will tell you our planned route for this time around. We will make our way to the Olakino (toxic) Jungle to get some of the tropical ingredients along with high-value flowers and medicinal plants. Next, we will enter the Poina ( forgotten) Desert from the southwestern part of it and make our way to the southeastern part of it then head for the center of it avoiding the northeastern part altogether. The reason for that is because there have been sightings of Blight Worm Grimms in that part of the desert after that we pass through northwest we will start our return to Kuo Kuana with what we have gathered. Any questions?
Moria asked in a confused tone of voice.
Moria: Um, why are we avoiding the northeastern part of the desert just because of some Grimm? Because I know some of the most valuable stuff in the desert is there.
Akilah looked at him like he was an idiot and answered in a condensing way.
Akilah: Because you empty-headed fool Bilght Worms are some of the largest Grimm on record so if you want to go over there and be Grimm bait be my guest just do it far away from the rest of us.
Moria was readying to retort to her when Drake covered his mouth along with Akilah's and said patiently.
Drake: Now Akilah while Moria may not be as knowledgable as you there was no need to treat him like an idiot. Moria I reminded you to study up for this expedition didn't I because I'm fairly certain I told you that this endeavor is dangerous. Now I'm going to remove my hands from your mouths and ask of you 2 not to get into an argument when we need to be ready to leave soon, okay.
Drake uncovered their mouths and they glared at each other but didn't speak. Lemiel directed everyone to their assigned duties, me and Drake are in charge of dragging the carts that carried our supplies because there no vehicles on the Menagerie that can handle the rough terrain on the expedition. Lemiel was the vanguard of our convoy while Tsukuyomi was the middle guard in front of me Akilah and Moria are our rearguards. The expedition was underway after an hour or so Akilah and Moria start to argue over something, I wasn't really paying any attention to them and I didn't really care what they were arguing over. In order to pass the time I tried talking to Tsukuyomi.
Silva: So, ah, Tsukuyomi right? Is this your first expedition with Lemiel?
She curtly replied with a neutral face.
Tsukuyomi: No, I've gone on a few of her expeditions before.
Not one for giving up I kept on trying to talk to her.
Silva: Okay, are you a friend of Lemiel?
Once again she curtly replied.
Tsukuyomi: Yes...
Feeling the awkward silence I asked.
Silva: So how did the 2 of you become friends?
Tsukuyomi kept her silence for a few moments and answered.
Tsukuyomi: We were in the White Fang together when it was still being lead by Ghira Belladonna and we often met each other at the protests which we got to know each other but once Sienna Kahn took over Lemiel left while I stayed for a few years before leaving.
Hearing her leave the White Fang I couldn't help but ask.
Silva: Why did you leave the White Fang? But you don't have to answer if I'm prying too much.
I hurriedly said because I might be asking a too personal question. Tsukuyomi kept her expression passive then answered after a few minutes.
Tsukuyomi: At first I felt that Sienna was right that we need to show force in order to show humans that we will not accept being treated like animals. After targeting shops and other businesses that refused to serve Faunus we quickly went on to targeting companies that made use of unfair or rather slave-like use of Faunus labor. I still felt what we were doing was right especially when we freed some of the mistreated Faunus and they were grateful but one day I had a joint mission with the Mistral and Vale branch of the White Fang that changed my view of the White Fang.
Listening to her I got a feeling that a certain red hair bull Faunus was involved in this mission, she continued.
Tsukuyomi: The mission was to destroy a supply line of cargo freighters owned by the Schnee Dust Company that transferred Dust in between Anima and eastern Sanus. All and all the mission went as planned with no hiccups but as I was double-checking everything I came across the infamous Adam Taurus arguing with a dockworker that happened to be a Faunus. The dockworker was trying to stop Adam from setting the charges, Adam was at first trying to reason with him saying that this was for the good of the Faunus. The dockworker was still preventing Adam from setting the explosives and was even begging him not to do this because this part of the SDC still adheres to the old company policy in secret in which the Faunus was being treated fairly.
I could already guess where this was going and Tsukuyomi continued her story.
Tsukuyomi: What Adam did next still bothers me to this day he cut the dockworker down calling him a filthy human lover and set his charges then head the corpse. I couldn't stop the operation even when I brought my testimony to the commanding officer and after that, I tried to bring Adam's other crimes to light that I discovered in my investigations but I kept on meeting roadblocks or the evidence I gathered went missing. This was all due to the fact that Adam had a widespread following in the White Fang and afterward people started to treat me differently this included my so-called friends and comrades. It was small things at first, like not returning my greetings or avoid talking to me any more than necessary but it quickly escalated to being flat out hostile.
It figures that Adam already has influence in the White Fang considering that he planned a coup and succeed in the show.
Tsukuyomi: I tried to tell the high leader but to no avail because Adam was the poster child of the White Fang and Sienna wasn't going to give him a serious punishment because it would affect the White Fang's image. After that, I left then tried to find Lemiel and I was surprised to find that she opened a bakery along with wearing a maid uniform.
I interjected at a point that got my attention.
Silva: So hold on Lemiel didn't always wear a maid outfit?
The white wolf Fanus chuckled lightly at my question while finally showing some expression from her usually passive look then answered.
Tsukuyomi: No she didn't and I didn't think it would suit her but in her own words, "she likes what she likes".
As time passed by I continued to talk to Tsukuyomi till we set up camp for the night.
