"Didn't you lose to Jae in several arcade games and ended up going on a date with him? I think you even had a selfie of a kiss."
Emily curled her fingers. Her nails dug into her cousin's shoulder. Fluttering her eyelashes, she answered with a tight smile. "There is no proof of that."
Alex simply shrugged. She grabbed the hand on her shoulder and removed it, saying, "It's okay. We still have the video and the photos from your wedding."
Her cousin flinched. Emily cursed herself. How could she have missed that? If Alex hadn't shown her, she probably wouldn't have known about it. That was A-class blackmail material right here.
Then, should she be glad that her cousin exposed it now?
Elena perked up at her words. She stepped forward, her baby blue eyes gleaming. One juicy story after another came her way. She was more than willing to hear it all. It was surely a lot more interesting than Evelyn Danes and her many schemes.
"Wedding? What wedding?" Elena questioned, turning to Emily. "Did you get tricked into a marriage booth?"
Emily dropped her jaw. Was a marriage booth that common? "How—"
"Yes, another brilliant work of mine," Max claimed. He cracked his knuckles and inhaled loudly. "You can just call me, Cupid, at this point. I have many contributions in the Love Department."
Xiera narrowed her mocha eyes. From the moment she met him, he had arrogance written all over his demeanor. He liked to talk big. He hogged the spotlight. Now, he made himself like a love expert.
"Are you a playboy?" She asked. An attention-grabbing person like him had to be.
Max placed a hand on his chest, a pained expression on his face. "You wound my heart, lovely. I simply spread love far and wide."
Kate smirked beside them. "You seems like Xiera's type."
"Ew, no." Her friend flared her nostrils.
"But all the boys you liked before sound like him."
Xiera rolled her eyes. "I learned my lesson."
"After how many times again?"
"Ladies, ladies," Max spoke up. He skipped closer to Xiera and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. She didn't shove it away. "I can assure you. There is only one Max Peyton. No one can ever come close to being as awesome as me."
"That's because everyone is better than you." Alex snorted.
"Hey! Who was it that got Jae and Emily together? That's right! It was me!"
Emily clicked her tongue. Not looking away, she directed her words over her shoulder. "Your championship is done now, right? That means I can beat him up?"
Jae grinned. He leaned down to whisper in her ear. "Go ahead."
Smirking a little, Emily began to stalk her prey. She advanced slowly and massaged her hands. She craned her neck from side to side. Oh, how much she'd have. She had anticipated this and, now, she could finally do it.
"Wowowoah!" Max backed away. His legs shook from under him and his heart hammered in his chest. He knew exactly what this girl could do. "Stay away from me, evil midget!"
Emily narrowed her eyes. "What did you call me?"
"Lovely, beautiful and fantastic goddess!"
"That's what I thought." She gave him a sarcastic smile. "Still not enough for me not to hit you."
Then, she bolted.
"Now, wait a minute! Help! Help! I'm being attacked!"
Max immediately ran for his life. He resembled a headless chicken among the crowd. Emily stayed hot on his heels. She purposely gave him a head start. It wouldn't be as fun if she caught him so quickly.
Besides, she could launch a surprise attack.
Alex shook her head. "How is he still alive?"
"Who knows?" Lauren shrugged.
Xiera rolled her eyes. "He's an idiot."
"Yeah, your kind of idiot."
She glared sideways. "Would you stop doing that?"
"I will when you prove me wrong." Kate smiled at her. Then, she addressed everyone else. "It was nice meeting you all. Unfortunately, I need to head home. I hope we cross paths again in the future!"
"The same goes for me, I guess," Xiera added. She waved her hand around the group. "I'd love to hang out with you all again someday. If you have any parties, do invite us!"
Alex used both of her hands to wave back. "I promise we'll hang outside soon."
"I'd like to talk to you more sometime too," Logan told them. "Thank you for taking care of Alex."
"It was our pleasure!" Kate replied, "I'm glad to have a study buddy. It also forces Xiera to study."
Xiera frowned. "Hey! But it is our pleasure. She's a fresh breath of air compared to some people around campus. If anything happens, we'll do our best to protect her."
A light bulb lit up over Logan's head. "Mind contacting us when they happen? Someone has a habit of not telling."
"You all know that I can hear you, right?" Alex grimaced. She had improved! She had told them about Evelyn Danes. She had told them about what they do in their free time too. She'd never been more informative and detailed in her whole life.
"Yes, so you'd know about it." Logan looked at her. She was still in his arms. "See how good that is?"
She merely snorted.
Kate and Xiera left the group. They headed for their chauffeurs. They shared their thoughts on the incident, really enjoying the chatter. Then, they wondered when they'd see each other again. Several events came to their minds.
Anything could be possible with the holidays coming up.
Charlotte nudged her sister's side. "We should probably go too."
"But I don't want to." Elena pouted at her. She'd never been more entertained. If possible, she'd like more of it. Maybe she should just transfer schools but that would mean less chances to get into her choice of university.
In the end, she relented and sighed.
You, stupid bunny!" Charlotte scolded, "We can't stay for too long. They're not here for us."
"Yeah, yeah, I know."
Jae shifted his attention towards them, "You're taking the bus, right? We can drop you off. I'm sure everyone would be okay with it."
Elena shook her head. "Nah, Emily usually drops us off with her family's car. Today is not an exception. Aunt Hatchi would have our heads if we didn't accept the ride. She'd think we're up to no good again."
"Again?"
"It was nothing," Charlotte cut in. Her voice dropped to a whisper. "We just went to a car show."
Elena moaned at the memory. "Beautiful babies. I really want a Sian. It was a perfect beauty. Want to split the cost, Charlotte?"
Her sister thought for a moment. "I want a McLaren. They hold their value."
Jae chuckled at the two. "You really are into cars like Emily said. Our family's dealerships aren't luxury cars but you can stop by sometime."
"Oh! Oh-oh!" Elena suddenly exclaimed. "Why don't you join the upcoming race? It's for charity. Most of the participants are young adults and teens. Also, can we represent your company? I'd totally be okay with a Mercedes."
Charlotte smacked the back of her head. "You don't even have a license yet."
Her sister glared in her direction. "And so? A participant also didn't have one last year. He still got to drive that beautiful Lamborghini."
"Yeah, but he didn't count when it came to the prizes. It's not some Go-Kart event."
"Fine, fine!" Elena sulked. "I'll just have to try again next year then."
Jae patted her shoulder. "It's okay. We haven't joined before. If dad somehow wants to enter, I'll tell you about it. He might redo it next year if things go well."
"Really?!" Elena cheered, beaming. Her eyes blinked up at him. "I don't know if you're doing this out of kindness or to get Emily on your good side but I totally support either one. If there's anything you want to know about her, just ask and you shall receive."
Charlotte rolled her eyes, shaking her head after. "You are so easy to please."
"Shut up, evil munchkin."
"Actually…" Jae started to say, "What pulls Emily out of the house? You know except for mandatory reasons."
"Shopping." Both sisters replied in unison.
"She really loves clothes," Charlotte added with a shrug. "When I say she loves clothes, I mean she loves studying them. She wants to be a fashion designer someday."
"Yeah, she hardly leaves the house unless we want to meet up or she needs to go out for a while." Elena said, "She's usually in her studio where it's full of her artwork on clothes. Sometimes we can't even ask her out whenever she's in it."
"I see." Jae nodded and rubbed his chin, absorbing the information. He should have known that she'd have a passion. He didn't expect it but it made him like her even more. "Well, thank you for sharing. Let's talk again another time."
Elena gave him a salute. "May the odds be ever in your favor."
"Good luck!" Charlotte raised a thumb. Then, she dragged her sister away. "Nice meeting you! Have a safe trip!"
Jae waved as they disappeared from his sight. His mind raced for ideas. There had to be some art studios back in Woodlands. Maybe there was a dress exhibition, displaying creations of different famous designers. Even if there wasn't any…
… he'd find one.
