Murong XieChu had lost his dear wife but when he carried the bundle of joy, looking at him with her bright light brown eyes with specks of gold, he fell in love at first sight. He named the baby Murong LiWang, and decided then and there and announced that Murong LiWang was a boy and his heir. He assigned his wife main handmaiden, YuQin, to swear into secrecy and only allowed her to take care of his heir.
Blessed by heavens, Murong LiWang, born as a child prodigy, started to speak by few months old, running around by 6 months old, hold a writing brush by 1 year, danced with a wooden sword by 2 and picked the Qin strings, playing a tune by 3 years old. The light stain left by the peach blossom petal during her birth was very pale, and did not mar the baby's soft pudgy face but only enhance her brows and eyes.
Murong LiWang did not mind the showers of attention given to her, laughing toothlessly back at them, making them fell in love more with the child. Murong XieChu always grew jealous when he came back from the palace to see his cute Li-er smiling at his people, he would dismiss all of them and spend time with her, carrying her small form in his arms.
Since his child was very special, there was nothing much he could teach her other than warfare, which his Li-er seemed to love listening too. He also told her proudly of his glory days of leading his men to battles, and saving defenceless people, to which Li-er would nod approvingly and awarded him a pat on his shoulder and a cute grin.
What fathers would not melt looking at their daughter's smiles, especially when Murong LiWang had the most adorable face with a smile that could brighten up the world. With such smiles, Murong XieChu would even pluck the stars from the sky for his Li-er if she wanted so.
One day, little Li-er had waited for Murong XieChu to return home and she climbed to his lap to ask who were the YiNiangs (not main wife; concubines) and why she had so many new mothers after her biological mother passed. Murong XieChu panicked and quickly dismissed his concubines, letting them go with large sum of money, enough to set up new lives comfortably. Not only he was worried that Li-er would disdain him, he also did not trust a step mother to care for Li-er, knowing how troublesome women could be.
Considering the mess in the royal family, whereby the royal children and their royal parents plotting against each other, he had also seen many large rich households' drama of concubines abusing stepchildren. How could he let Li-er be slighted? He would kill anyone who dared to touch a single strand of his precious daughter.
With all things considered, to be truthful, he could not be bothered dealing with so many women and their wiles, since his wife who had managed his back courtyard had already passed, and he did not want to think who to promote. It was only for the best for those back-courtyard flowers to be cleared. Thus, he did not keep any other women in his manor, only his main wife's handmaidens, who were brought into the General's manor when Dugu FuMeng married him.
Usually daughters from powerful clan would either keep their handmaidens to her family's surname or they would let their husbands keep the maids as concubines. Murong XieChu was not a lustful man, and had actually grown up in his village, where couples were monogamous. Receiving so many flowers by other officials at his back courtyard had given him headache, he rejected when his main wife offered her handmaidens. General Murong told Dugu FuMeng to keep her handmaidens to continue serve her instead.
These maids, aside from YuQin who was taking care of Li-er, had knelt down to beg him to keep them to care for their deceased mistress' child. They swore into his household and not the Dugu's, when he let go of his concubines and the other marriageable age unmarried maids.
Li-er was only 1 plus and she was already all over the place, YuQin would probably need back up especially when the baby needed her wash and other female things, so General Murong agreed to the maids request. It was better for females to be around to deal with female things that a father did not have to worry to deal with.
As the years passed, watching the child grow up was also a blessing. They had seen how the burly large General Murong pleaded with the small toddler to put on a veil, and the child kept shoving it off. Then the father bought her cute animal masks, and it was successful until after for she wore few months before crying hot.
General Murong not wanting to pressure his precious child, decided to do away all veils and masks at home but negotiated like how he negotiated with the enemy nation generals. They had come into an agreement for her to wear a mask to conceal herself, and he almost threw a banquet to thank the gods for gifting him such a wondrous and filial daughter.
Murong LiWang had misunderstood her father, thinking her father would let her roam outside the manor but General Murong had further fortified his manor, not even allowing a fly to fly in, and Murong LiWang was kept cloistered safely within the walls of the residence.
It was until Murong LiWang was 5 years old, when her light movement skills (QingGong) had greatly improved that she managed to leapt to the manor walls with her short legs, and went out to see the world outside her manor.
As soon as she had reached outside, in her first time out of the manor without the protection of her father, she saw the vast disparity of the ones living inside and outside of the General's manor. There were beggars, human slavery, that sold children, and these shocked the young and sheltered Murong LiWang. She was disturbed from her outing and stayed indoors in her room for few days, saddened about the cruelty of humans in the mortal realm.
General Murong was at first happy that his daughter was behaving but on the third day, he became worried and went to Murong LiWang's room and told her he would take her out to the countryside.
General Murong was recently rewarded with a countryside residence by Xie Emperor for his contribution to the kingdom. The countryside residence had a great scenic landscape being near the mountains and lake and the area was popular with all the aristocratic clans and high-ranking officials to visit.
It was during this outing, when Murong LiWang first saved her first mortal.
