บท 43: Chapter 42 - Short talk
"What in the world is this?"
Ernie asked himself as he stared into the large red eye.
The creature that this eye belonged to roared as the entire temple shook. Small red lanterns lit up lighting up the temple and revealing the creature.
Ernie was shocked.
Not due to fear, but due to understanding what this creature is.
The creature resembled a large turtle but had a crab-like shell with spikes all over its body. Behind it's back, Ernie saw three shrimp-like tails.
It looked very intimidating, and Ernie knew why.
It was one of the tailed beasts, the three-tailed beast.
Ernie only recalled the main one that constantly appeared in the series, the nine-tails. As for the others, he knew that each of them had a tail and enormous amount of chakra, but that was all.
Afterall, it's been many years and his knowledge of One Piece took up the majority of his brain's memory considering he was in that world.
However, Ernie did recall that each tailed beast had it's own name and was able to communicate.
The three-tails roared again as the temple shook once again, but seeing as Ernie wasn't afraid it stopped.
Outside the temple, Ryo's entire body shook with fear. He wasn't sure what was going on, but he knew he would be of no help alone. He decided the best course of action would be to get the other strong shinobi in their village to help Ernie.
Ernie wasn't too sure why the tailed beast wasn't attacking him, but he was not planning on making the first move. If it didn't attack him, he seen no harm in attacking it.
"What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in the body of someone?"
Ernie asked loudly.
The three-tailed looked at Ernie.
'Are you not afraid?'
A voice echoed in his head and asked him.
"Not really, you'd just a powerful crab in my eyes. They are mostly harmless in my eyes."
Ernie responded back.
'A crab?'
Ernie nodded.
"So, what are you doing in this place? Hiding from the world or something?"
'I was placed here long ago, and am not supposed to leave. My goal is to protect this temple and anything in the region from those who wish to do harm.'
The voice said calmly.
Ernie couldn't understand, he thought that these guys were in the bodies of select people who would later be called Jinchuriki. Was he mistaken?
How could a tailed beast be able to roam around freely?
"Still, being in this place must make you lonely…"
Ernie commented.
"Anyways, one of my comrades sensed your chakra so I came here to investigate. Considering you were here first in this land, I came to let you know that we will be living here for now. Don't worry, i'll make sure you have this entire area to yourself if that's what you want."
'You are a strange one, but do as you see fit. If you don't bother me, I will not see the need to make trouble.'
The voice told Ernie.
The three-tails wasn't what Ernie was expecting, he recalled that the nine-tails went on a rampage in the hidden leaf village. He thought the others would do the same, but the three-tails was a lot more calm.
Not that it was a bad thing. If they could coexist then that worked for him.
Still, Ernie did feel a little bad for it being all alone.
Ernie left the temple that held the three-tails in one piece, but when he saw all the people surrounding the temple he was wondering what was going on.
Hina and Himari rushed to his side and checked him over.
"Thank god you're ok!"
Hina said as she hugged him.
"What happened in there? Did you defeat that beast?"
"I can still feel the chakra… it hasn't been defeated."
The other shinobi that came started discussing what they thought happened and asked Ernie questions. He didn't have time to answer one, as they threw questions at him one after another.
"Let him answer!"
Aito shouted causing the surroundings to quiet down.
Ernie could have done it himself, but Aito reacted before him.
"Inside is a great creature, it protects this region. However, as you can see this temple is a bit old and has been left unattended to. After talking with it, I have decided that the seventh day of the week, we shall all come here and over the creature gifts and prayers."
'That is not what we talked about humans.'
The three-tails voice appeared in Ernie's head.
'It's not, but I feel bad you are alone. At least this way you'll have people talking to you and thanking you for your protection.'
Ernie said inside his head, not knowing whether the three-tails could hear him or not.
