บท 19: Vacation Planning
When I pull into the driveway of my home I see that both Nova and Rylie are pulling in behind me so I grab my bag out the backseat and open the door for us. We all take our shoes and jackets off at the door I take my school bag upstairs and come back down with slippers for the girls.
"So what's going on," Nova asks as I begin putting the leftover Sunday dinner in the oven to heat up.
"A lot, first though Ma is gone on a business trip for a few days so I have to help keep the house in
order so that's why we're here and not at the café," I say finally able to sit down at the table with them.
"Ohhhhh ok, so what happened yesterday and at school today," Nova asks and I'm sure Rylie must've told her about the incident after class today.
"Girl a whole lot has happened! I know you've seen or heard about me and Mekhi going around campus?! He said that someone saw us out at brunch and took a picture I'm sure that's what ignited the whole thing. To make matters worse he basically stayed with me the entire day walking me to and from class and even came home with me to have lunch…well that doesn't make matters worse really," I say smiling to myself.
"Aww that's cute! What about those girls at the end of your last class," Nova asks looking between me and Rylie.
"I didn't tell her everything. I don't know what happened after I left," Rylie says defending herself.
"So after you left I saw that those two tramps who were talking trash before were watching us so when Mekhi kissed me like he's done all day I just kissed him like my life depended on it! Like the good sport that he is he went along with it. I didn't really want the attention that I knew would come along with dating him because of incidents like that one. Everyone is always staring or glaring whichever way they feel about it I guess; it gets annoying though for sure and it's only the first day," I say to my friends and they're looking at me with sympathy in their eyes.
"First of all congratulations for handling your business with those two trolls! Second all the attention and hype will die down soon enough you know he's popular, private, and hasn't been spotted with a girl for a while so everyone's dying to know who you are and what you look like. Third you can handle all of this like the boss that you are and last but not least Mekhi must care about you a whole, whole lot because he's walking you to and from class so there's that! Not to mention all the PDA that's been seen that he's packing on you so kudos to you," Nova says in a matter of fact way.
"You brought him home for lunch as well so tell us what happened yesterday," Rylie says adding to Nova's insights.
"So we went to brunch as y'all know and he packed on the PDA there as well he wanted to meet my parents and I had to tell him we should wait a few weeks before we take that step. Well when I got back Mom and Dad wanted to meet him like that day if possible, so I had to ask him to come over for dinner to meet them…hence all the food I'm warming up for tonight. So they met and talked and he impressed them, well Mom more than Dad, and they like him. He was here for a few hours he made my plate, waited for me before he started eating, and was treating me like I'm like the love of his life or something. At first it felt weird but, after a while it started to feel normal," I explain as fast as I could to them.
"Oh wow. I guess he really is serious about you then Na-na," Nova says with awe filled eyes.
"Seriously! You might've gotten lucky and found your soulmate early in life especially after that disaster of an ex you had," Rylie says joining in.
"Y'all think so? I've been thinking the same thing, but wasn't sure. Now I'm just going to go with the flow and take it all as it comes as best I can. He's been so patient and kind and haven't given me a reason to doubt him so far. I know it's only the beginning but, I really feel like this time it's something different," I say.
"You sound like someone in love," Rylie says.
"Maybe, maybe not…anyway y'all remember my friend Susu I've been telling y'all about? I've told her about our summer vacation plans and she's down to roll. I'm ready to bring her into our group, she's been helping and holding me down in the classes I have had with her this year," I say remembering what I told Susu earlier.
"If you're sure then let's do it," Nova says.
"Yeah, the more the merrier," Rylie says backing us.
"Cool, I'll add her in the group chat and try to get all of us together before the end of the week," I say taking out my phone to add her in and shoot her a message.
"Have you told Mekhi about our summer plans," Nova asks.
"Yeah, he wants to participate as well but we have to plan around his summer league schedule. He says it's not going to take up the whole summer so he's going to try to get the schedule as soon as possible and we'll plan from there," I say yawning. I am starting to feel tired so I grab something sweet to give me an energy boost. Nova and Rylie both do the same and we're back on topic.
"Cool, so we now know that we're all going," Rylie says.
"Now let's figure out where we want to go," Nova says.
"Let's do it," I say and we all pull out our phones to start looking at places to visit and hotel prices for the places we want to visit.
We sit in the kitchen and begin writing down the different places we want to visit and the cost to travel on a notepad I grab from my mom's office. We research the different things to do in each area and about how much money we would need to have on hand. We narrow it down to a few beaches, a few campsites, and a few cities that we haven't been to. I share all of the information in the group chat so that we can all discuss it further as a group with Susu.
When we're finished the twins are already home from school so I invite Nova and Rylie to join us for dinner mostly to get rid of the food so we can be done with it. We eat dinner and chat some more. I text Dad and Mom that we're all home and have had dinner as well as telling them that the girls are here at the house. Mom says that she got into her hotel and settled in fine; Dad says he'll be home later in the evening. We have dessert then the girls and I head to my room to try to get a little studying done.
"How was Mekhi able to be with you practically all day today," Rylie asks as if suddenly remembering something.
"Oh, he's leaving for a game early tomorrow morning so he said that they've been having practices and workouts time throughout the day to prepare for it," I say.
"Hmm, I never thought about that," Rylie says going back to her notes.
"Yeah, that's the same thing I said when he told me earlier," I say returning to my own notes.
'I wonder what he's doing now…I'm not going to be able to focus if I keep thinking about him. I didn't even tell them about our lunch here at the house…oh well it'll be a story for another day. He's so smooth and his words are so sappy sometimes. I like it though he's like a hopeless romantic maybe an even bigger one than me.' I think to myself as I am trying to study.
"Na-na I'm calling it a night. I want to see Devin before I go home," Nova says packing up her bag.
"Yeah, I'm leaving too. I'm supposed to be meeting Zain at his job," Rylie says packing her bag as well.
"Alright, I'll walk you guys down," I say standing to stretch and follow them out my room and down the stairs.
"See you later," Nova says as she walks out the door.
"See you! Tell Devin I said hi," I say to her.
"Bye Lena," Rylie says as she leaves out behind Nova.
"Byeeee tell Zain I said hey," I say waving them both off.
I wait until I can no longer see their cars before I head back inside. I go back to my room and put my notes away. I contemplate starting my shower routine for five minutes before I finally begin to gather my things. I take down, moisturize, and put my hair away. When I finally get in the shower the day's events run through my mind. I sing to my heart's content as I cleanse my body washing away the problems of the day. I get out the shower, moisturize my skin and put on my night shirt before flopping on the bed.
