บท 19: Fear
While laughing at the situation, Sera didn't notice the glint in Lucien's eyes. The glint had disdain with a hint of malice. If one were to see this look, they would immediately turn and go the other way. Poor Sera didn't know the trap that lay waiting for her.
He could do so many things with her power that he got semi hard thinking of it. He craved power like most crave food or water. Lucien had to get her even if he had to manipulate his way to the goal. He should challenge her powers to their full potential and to do that he had to put her in dangerous situations. Fear would bring out the best in her and would allow her to tap into her powers faster.
They went out of her room and down the stairs towards the door that lead to the backyard. Once outside Lucien started moving his fingers around and muttered a spell under his breath. The sky turned black and the wind started whipping hard against the skin. A roar could be heard from the sky much like an angry lion. The roar rumbled the trees and shook the ground. Thunder kept on, relentlessly threatening to rip open the sky and downpour gallons of rain. Sera gasped and wanted to go back inside, but couldn't go since the men were blocking her escape.
Just when her courage was coming around, lightning struck a tree nearby making everyone jump. Her instincts told her to run, so she shakily put her hands over her head as if that could protect her. Lucien observes the scared girl and felt annoyed, 'Why doesn't she use her powers?' As he was thinking this lightning hit the ground about 10 feet away from the trio, making the ground shake violently. At the moment of impact Sera reacted instinctively and made a huge barrier around them. As they became protected she then appeared to absorb the energy from the bolt and sent it out back to the sky, dissipating the dark clouds and restoring the beautiful day.
Astonished, the men sat with their mouths practically hanging open. Not only did she protect them, but she also countered the spell and over powered it. "How was that?" She asked with a new confidence. She even surprised herself with her own abilities. Had she known she could do that, she'd have acted sooner. "Let's practice some more. I'm pretty pumped up now." She said with a big grin, her confidence shining like the sun.
"I think we should train on how to conjure the defenses for spells of that level. Even though you instinctively countered it, you should know the mechanics behind the conjure." Lucien said with a stoic look. Sera knew that look well, so she agreed and they started practicing. Jack stood back watching her learn earnestly. "First you need to make sure you're grounded, in order to draw power from the earth and that way you aren't taking from your life force." Lucien was teaching her grounding techniques now so she won't overwhelm herself. It was vital for her to learn these techniques in order to not injure or kill herself.
He was actually a great teacher as he always let her know the dangers of each situation and let her ask questions. The only downside was his temper since he would often explode from his impatience. He wanted her to know everything right away and she was even a very fast learner, but it still wasn't fast enough for his expectations. He was so exhilarated about her potential and it made him overly enthusiastic. Though his enthusiasm came off as anger, he truly wasn't angry. He was more power hungry with each lesson. Craving power has its own way of twisting a person. He was about to teach her a dangerous short cut when Jack interrupted.
"I feel the first way you taught her should be sufficient in grounding." Lucien looked displeased upon hearing those words. Did jack catch on to his underlying plans? No he couldn't possibly know. Though Jack had a look on his face showing he caught on to something. Lucien had stored away his power struggle in a part of his mind that others couldn't intrude into. The question that needed to be answered now is, how much does Jack think he knows?
