Ip Man was sitting in the chair in the living room drinking a warm cup of tea after dinner.
He then asks Tony who is standing beside him, "Hui Liang, how's your progress on the Sil Lim Tao?"
He was still using the lid of the cup to brush against the warm tea slowly. With his legs crossed on the chair casually as he asked the question.
Finishing his tea Ip Man stood up and said to Tony, "Let me see your progress. You may attack any part of me without restraint."
Hearing that Ip Man decided to test him on his progress, he stopped lowering his head and slowly parts his leg in a wing chun left stance.
Moving the left leg forward, but distributing most of the weight on the rear leg. With the left hand forward and the right hand at the center of his chest for protection.
Ip Man only watches him in a relaxed wing chun stance, moving close Tony began his attack. Punching towards Ip Man's face using a centerline punch.
However, Ip Man immediately blocked the punch with his hand. As though his hands were like soft cotton as it kept in constant contact with Tony's arm, as if it were stuck to it.
Tony tried again and again with different attacks. But no matter how hard or fast he attacked, Ip Man was easily able to stop him using just one hand.
Without realizing it Tony found himself unable to move his arms at all since he has fallen into a skillful trapping hands.
Trapping hands is a set of moves that is meant to immobilize an opponent's hands.
The usage is to trap their hands to decrease their chances to defend or counter attack. Delivering a coup de grace in a matter of seconds.
Noticing his hands are so easily trapped by Ip Man Tony knows he has committed a grave mistake. Thinking to himself, 'I was too focused on blocking and then hit.'
Seeing his trapped state Ip Man calmly mentions, "A Wing Chun practitioner must not only have skills. But also sensitivity to act the flowing energy of blocks and strikes simultaneously."
Tony could only step back until he was up against a wall. Unable to move the upper part of his body, he tried to use a kick from the second form of Wing Chun: Tsum Kui.
Tony kicks towards Ip Man's knee but all he did in response was to lift his own leg, causing Tony to lose his balance.
Following that, Ip Man then swept Tony's standing leg from beneath him. Making him fall to the ground on his butt.
Standing up from the ground he bows and says, "Master Ip Man, Hui Liang still has lots more to learn."
Nodding at his student, he says mildly, "I can see that you have worked on the forms of Wing Chun. Can you show me your forms? I would like to see them."
Tony was quick to demonstrate his forms as Ip Man watched closely and corrected any mistakes he made.
Additionally he shows from Sticking Hands a few new skills and the principles behind using energy.
Through this simple exchange of martial arts Tony saw that Wing Chun was not tough, but very sensitive.
In the past due to his boxing background he was stuck in a rut that relies more on strength alone to defeat his opponent.
From the exchange he saw that by being more relaxed, Ip Man could feel his energy and became more able to control and redirect any attack that he launches at him with ease.
"That's enough for today," says Ip Man after finishing the correction of Tony's form, "The focus of training is not to make the techniques more complicated. Instead learning how to make each movement simple and direct."
Tony bows to Ip Man deeply as he leaves the living room.
Today was a really humbling lesson that made him think to himself that, "Behind one big mountain is another big mountain."
And like this another year goes by as Tony pushes himself everyday in his practice of Wing Chun.
Throughout this period he has done a great deal of practicing the second form of Wing Chun.
Practicing not just the turning skills, but also all the movements in the forms.
Hence this way he would never lose his balance and be pushed over by an attack.
One day as Tony was walking back with a basket full of food from the market he heard some sounds in the direction he was heading.
Walking some distance he saw two young women surrounded by a gang of a dozen men making fun of them and trying to touch them in an intimate way.
"Please let me and my sister go," the older of the two girls said. She had on a ponytail tied behind her and was wearing a long white qipao that has beautiful red and white flower embroideries on them.
On her hair was a beautiful golden colored phoenix hairpin. Which beautifully adds to her style of clothing.
The side of the qipao that she was wearing reveals pale skin. Her sister was behind her tugging a little on her clothing, "Sis what should we do? We shouldn't have come out."
One of the bigger more muscular men among the gang members took a step close to her.
Grabbing her face towards his up close, "Hey beautiful, don't worry my men are real soft towards girls like you."
The young girl saids in anger, "I will scream if you move closer!" There was a hint of tension in the air, the other men were smiling and making jokes amongst themselves.
"You're making me want you more," the man says while taking a look at the young bosom of the girl.
He then shares a look with the men behind in a way stating that they caught a nice pair tonight.
The girl that was hiding behind her grabbed onto her older sister's clothing tighter seeing the looks on the men's face.
"I'll pay you money, just state your price," the girl responds to his teasing in a strong manner.
As though she still hasn't caught the faintest idea of her disadvantageous situation. Pushing away the dirty hand that was on her face.
