Bri is my best friend. She is both my eyes and my heart. It has been a few weeks since I met Ashley. Today I would be crushed by the unknowing feeling of not being there when Bri needed me. Today is Bri's birthday as a result she was going out. As Bri was walking across the street she was hit be a car. I was with my boyfriend when the accident happened. I got a call from Ashley however instead of answering I hung up. I turned my phone on silent so as not to wake up my boyfriend who was napping. When I left my boyfriend's place I noticed there was twenty four text messages and sixteen missed calls from Ashley. I called Ashley back.
" Thank God you call me Rudy! " (Ashley)
" What's wrong? " (me)
" It's Bri she's been a car accident. " (Ashley)
" What when?! " (me)
" Hours ago Rudy, that's why I called you! " (Ashley)
" I'll be right there. Where are you? " (me)
" Saint Louis Hospital. Second floor, room 203. " (Ashley)
I arrived at the hospital thirty minutes later. Only to find Bri was in surgery still. When she got out of surgery the doctor's asked for family members. They told me while Bri's surgery was ok she might not wake up for the next few months. I spent every day by Bri's side. Only switching with Ashley and my boyfriend when needed. I couldn't sleep much in those days for fear that when I woke up it would all be a dream and she would really be gone. Day in and day out she slept. This went on for the next three months, one week, and five days. When she finally woke up everything came crashing down. There were all these what if's. What if she didn't wake up. Or what if she didn't remember me. In those days I had never been as scared as I was in that moment.
