Jack Freston opened his eyes, his head fuzzy and full of fog. He couldn't remember much. Actually, aside from his own name, Jack couldn't recall a single thing about himself, let alone how he had gotten to where he was.
Sitting up and blinking the fuzziness from his eyes, Jack took everything in. He was surrounded by people on all sides with beams of light flashing across the night sky, spawning more figures to appear. The most notable thing however was the giant humanoid figure near the front of the crowd standing approximately 20 feet tall with a staff in his hands that looked similar to a tree.
The beams of light just kept on illuminating the night as Jack pushed himself to his feet. Normal people probably would've started freaking out, but Jack felt more curious and confused then afraid and panic stricken. He trailed his eyes over the now hundreds of figures appearing from the beams of light, wondering who they were and why everyone was here.
He actually got his answer rather quickly when the beams of light suddenly stopped and the giant figure actually began to move.
"Thats everyone I think," The giant said in a rather excited voice, "Now we can start explaining the rules!!" He raised his huge staff and slammed it against the ground. The dirt floor rumbled, causing everyone except for Jack to fall to the floor, as if pushed down by some sort of gravity.
"Wait, your still standing?" The giant asked, his voice easily travelling across the enormous crowd. "That cant be right...whats your name kid? What dimension are you from?...... Oh wait I forgot I sealed your memories."
"My name is Jack Freston!" Jack yelled back, his voice barely carrying over to the enormous man. "I dont know much else apart from that. Who the hell are you?"
"Interesting," The man said, touching his own chin in intrigue. "I guess this will be an exciting game after all. As for my name, you can simply call me "The Game Master" or just GM is fine. However, while its flattering that you want to know more about me, lets learn exactly why I brought you here."
The Game Master slammed the butt of his staff against the ground again, lifting whatever spell or force he had cast upon the crowd. "I have brought you all here for a game of life and death, whether you decide to play or not is up to you, but know that not only will you never recieve your memories again, but you'll also never return to own dimension."
There was a slight pause before rounds of cursing, confusion, and panic began to echo throughout the barren strip of land they were all standing on. The roar got louder and louder until Jack couldn't even hear himself think and the noise began to get on his nerves.
Stomping one foot onto the ground, Jack took a deep breath and cupped his hands around his mouth. "HEYYYYYYYYYYYYY, PORN IS LIFE!!!!" He didnt know what porn was but he figured it would be enough of a wake up call for the crowd.
This actually had the desired effect as the majority of the crowd turned to see who had started screaming at the top of his lungs. Jack took this momentary drop in noise to speak his mind. Even though he didn't remember anything about himself or anything before today, he was immensely irritated by the noise and knew right then and there that he must have loved peace and quiet.
"All you ladies have to do is shut up and listen!!" Jack shouted at the top of his lungs, making sure everyone, even the few who were still talking amongst themselves, could hear him. "He was just about to explain things to us, so kindly shut your mouths and pay attention!! Class is in session you morons!!"
Even he had no idea what he was saying, but against all odds, what he said actually seemed to work as everyone, including the talkative ones fell silent and turned to look at the Game Master. The GM was watching everything play out with obvious amusement, as if he had found something rather peculiar and interesting.
"As per what the fellow named Jack said, I am indeed going to explain things, but first, to stop anyone from speaking again, know that the prize for winning my game is one wish!" The Game Master trailed his gaze over the crowd, the smile never leaving his face. "You may wish for anything you like, no restrictions what-so-ever. Of course, this prize is the only acceptable choice since you'll all be staking your life on it."
"The game is rather simple.....to be the strongest," The Game Master went on to say, raising his staff and slamming it against the ground once more. A hologram appeared next to him, depicting something similar to a human but with a long forked tail and horns coming out the sides of its head. "I've transported you all to a world of cultivation, where demons and humankind are waging war against one another. The strongest of these demons looking like this picture here."
"So what?!" A voice cried out with an obvious condescending tone. The crowd backed away revealing a rather short individual with long spiky black hair and something akin to a permanent scowl. He oozed with pride and wore a weird outfit that looked similar to a football uniform with extending shoulder pads. "You telling us that all we got to do is train ourselves to become stronger than that thing? That's simple, you might as well send everyone back from where they came from, I can do it all myself!!"
"Ah, Vegeta," The Game Master said with a hint of distaste on his face. "Still as prideful even with all your memories sealed away...quite amazing really!! Anyways, as to your question before your stupid prideful talk, thats to put it simply. However as I'm a just and benevolent god, I'll give you the longer answer, as courtesy of Jack for shutting you all up earlier."
The Game Master slammed the butt of his staff against the ground once again, erasing the image of the humanoid monster and replacing it with a human figure with various points of light all over his body. "In this world and now in your own body, there are things called Light Points, and there the key to everything involving this game."
"Light Points once activated, unlocks hidden strength, powers, and abilities, making you many times stronger as well as increasing your level." The GM explained, slamming his staff onto the ground, making the image disappear. "There are normally 536 Light Points on the regular person, but some of you may have more or less depending on your potential." His eyes skimmed briefly over Jack before continuing.
"The name of the game is to survive until you have not only unlocked all your Light Points but also defeated the 10 strongest S-ranked demons in this world." He slammed his staff onto the ground again (How cool is that staff) and a hologram showing 10 humanoid figures appeared next to him.
"What's an S ranked demon?" Asked a guy wearing an all green outfit. He looked tough, but seemed just as confused as everyone else. Just the fact that he was willling to speak up to the giant was proof of his bravery.
"Well Mr. Yuusuke Urameshi, sorry if I mispronounced it," GM said with a smile. "Thats for something for you figure out. As a matter of fact, I'll let you guys figure it out on your own."
"Actually, I have a question for you," Jack said raising his hand, though it wasnt necessary since there was now a full two foot circle space separating him from the crowd. "What about our memories? Will you be giving that back to us?"
"Oh, right I forgot to mention that!!" The Game Master said with a small laugh. "The more Light Points you activate, the more memories you'll recieve. Its just another incentive to play the game."
"Anyways, thats it for me," The GM said with a huge smile. "Its time to bid you players adieu, but since I'm feeling nice I'll let you guys in on something. If you don't reach that wall in the next 10 minutes you'll all me chow for a pack of demonic wolves heading this way."
The Game Master pointed directly north of himself, at a 30 meter tall stone gray wall that had a rather wide 3 meter gate. All heads turned to look at it, everyone processing the giants words.
"Whether you believe me or not is up to you, you'll only have yourselves to blame," The Game Master said, raising his staff. "I'll be seeing you all some time in the future. I wish you the best of luck!!" With those parting words, he slammed the butt of his staff against the ground and disappeared.
