71.42% Hekate of Krypton / Chapter 15: 『Fade』

บท 15: 『Fade』

Sight faded in and out between brief bouts of pain. The smell of iron, blood, filled the ear. The room was sterile, she could smell the latex gloves, the scrub uniforms. She never closed her eyes, but one could tell her consciousness wasn't always there.

After about an hour of laying face down, with her head turned to the side, on the operating table. She felt a warmth, the sun's rays on her back. He was invigorating, the power, it was as if she was being recharged like a battery.

The yellow lights were pleasing, yet the white fluorescent lights were nauseating. She hated the fake white lights.

"Mmmm," letting out a slight moan, stretched slightly beneath the lamp light and gazed around the room. There were many eyes on her, Director Hank Henshaw's being the primary. She stared at him, at J'onn J'onzz and smiled partially.

It was a like a coy child who knew they had tried to do good, and failed, getting hurt instead. A smile that reassured that they'd be up and running very soon.

『Advisory: After being exposed to Kryptonite for the first time and you being severely injured. The Guardian-1 suggests that you put all your EXP into the Kryptonian Physiology. It will increase your natural abilities under a Yellow Sun, will you follow this advice?』

Just then she used the EXP, with her mental allowance, to increase her level on her Kryptonian Physiology. When she had done this, yellow tendrils of light began to leave the Yellow Sun Lamps and travel into her body. An immediate power boost, she bit her lower lip as she felt herself charge up even more than she ever had before.

She was at least ten times stronger than before, ten times faster, denser, she could take more damage. She felt as if the resistance to Kryptonite was about fifteen percent, which meant it wouldn't take her down right away.

She brought herself into a sitting position with her feet beneath her. She rested her hands on her knees and closed her eyes partially.

Thinking back to when the Intergang seemed to have a piece of Kryptonite, her gaze moved towards the door of the facility. There was a massive window, it lead out into the city. She could only blink several times seeing where they were.

They were still within the limits of National City, and not only that, they were relatively close to where Winn's current loft was. A small grin formed over her lips, though she was wondering if he was worried about her since she never came back.

"How are you feeling?" J'onn J'onzz asked as he walked over to the table, the doctors which had removed the shrapnel now leaving the room.

"I am... Fine," She said as she opened her eyes and pulled up her hood. Her eyes gazed over the man's face for a moment before letting out a sigh. "Did you find out where they got the Kryptonite?"

He nodded slowly, as if he was disappointed about something. He was looking at the floor for a few seconds before returning his gaze to the pintsized Kryptonian. "They were able to obtain it through out inventory without us noticing."

Acknowledging his answer with a bob of her head, she chuckled slightly. "Sounds like the government can't be trusted to hold onto such a resource." She smiled at him once more as she placed a hand on his shoulder.

"You're just like Superman, you don't trust..."

Hearing him say this, she raised a brow slightly and cut him off. "Why would one trust a government that is all about power and profit? That's premeditated suicide." She held a face which clearly appeared to be holding back laughter.

The Martian blinked a few times when he heard the girl say this. It was as if she was placing the government of the United States in the same boat as the World Government of Krypton.

Krypton chose power over saving its people, that is why it had fallen and also why only a fraction of its civilization survived. Despite that, the ones on Earth believed themselves to be the only ones alive.

"You're a little anarchist," One of the agents nearby joked as he looked over at her. This man seemed to be one of the agents which had accompanied him on the field. Agent Wilks.

"Oh hai, Wilky, the adults are talking. Behave yeah?" The Kryptonian in the room grinned at the man, tilting her head to the side. She was sure pulling a childish card there, a rather sarcastic one at that too.

"Hmph." The agent frowned quietly as he gave her a stink eye before glancing away. He was surely not liking this child at all, especially since she had a smart mouth on her.

Hank just looked at the girl with a brow raised slightly and shaking his head. "You should behave as well," he responded as he placed a hand on her head, beneath her hood and ruffled her hair.

Hekate's face went blank as he messed up her hair on purpose.

"Oh c'mon don't make that face. Hank's just giving you some initiative," Agent Wilks decided to tease the girl, a form of petty revenge.

Hekate just looked over at him as her eyes seemed to get brighter, in the literal sense, she was charging her heat vision.

"Woah! Woah! Woah!" Hank moved himself in front of the Kryptonian girl, blocking her from using the heat vision on one of his men. "Behave or your both out!"

"Uh... Huh..." She stared up at him for a few moments before flicking his nose. If it had been anyone else, they'd likely be dead. Instead Hank just held his nose and glared at the child.

"Go Home Cadmus," Hank snarled as he pointed towards the door with his free hand.

Shrugging to herself, she giggled. She had flicked the Martian Manhunter in the face and she seemed rather proud of it. Hopping off the table, she began to hop and skip out of the room. Tripping Agent Wilks in the process before bursting into superspeed and flying out of the building.

After helping Agent Wilks up to his feet, he and Hank made his way over to the entrance in stride. Looking over the city scape, they had already lost sight of her.

It was already lunch time, twelve noon. The operation to save the girl had taken a long time, considering the fact that her body kept on grabbing at the pieces of shrapnel, though it did push some out.

"She's not mature enough to work in this setting," The agent complained to his superior who simply shrugged at the notion. "We can't trust her to watch our bac–"

"She watched our backs just fine last night," Hank said as he looked over at Hank. "She got hurt yesterday because we didn't have her back one hundred percent."

Wilks just stood there for a few moments before lowering his head a bit and nodding. He understood what he was saying. Hekate had been hurt because she got in the way of Shrapnel that would have killed his colleague. She almost died in a mortal's arms, she came closer to dying than Superman ever had at this point.

"Understood Sir," Wilks seemed to regain his composure as an Agent of the DEO. His posture was erect, healthy and superior. He looked towards the very woman that Hekate had saved yesterday.

She was down in the central command center looking over the screens hosted by satellites.

บท 16: 『Superficial』

She was flying several meters above the street in the commercial district of National City. Cheers could be heard, but there was no one without their critiques. Like the days that Superman first appeared, people feared her. The world wasn't perfect, the fact that she had no qualms killing criminals means if someone were to corrupt her in some fashion, she could go on a murder spree.

The idea wasn't fathomable to her, she didn't think that anyone could force her to do anything. She was strong, but at the same time she was young. She was a genius, but there were many things about herself she didn't know.

Hearing the voice of the young Maxwell Lord on a television set on display at a technologies department store, she heard mention of herself.

Barrel rolling before doing a backflip, she changed directions and went directly towards the storefront. Within moments she landed flat on her feet, her head cocked to the side, her face hidden by the shadow generated by the hood. Only her glowing two colored eyes being visible to anyone looking as of now.

Her eyes traced over the face of Maxwell, the CEO of a Technology Manufacturing Company. She licked her lips slightly, walking towards it.

"What are your thoughts on last night's events Mister Lord?" A girls voice spoke up, it was one of the most constant reporters on the News station. They were standing in front of the ruined bank, the entire front of the building was virtually gone. The debris had been cleared up and it was quite clear there was a lot of damage.

"A controlled explosion? Robots with guns?" Maxwell Lord shook his head on national television, "National City has become just like Metropolis when Superman arrived. It's become a super badguy war the moment Agent Cadmus appeared!"

Her eye twitched slightly seeing this man talk on the television. It was annoying to hear him compare her to superman. She wanted to just strangle him, like she did anyone else that compared her to him. Yet she restrained herself, she killed villains and people who were ready to kill others for selfish deeds.

"Who is she anyway? From what I can see, she looks like a kid in a mask, who in their right mind lets their kid go out and fight and nearly die!?" Maxwell Lord's eyes seemed to be lit up with fire, while he was pro-human, he was mainly pro-life. He couldn't fathom the idea of a child being allowed to fight like this by their parents.

"Her parents are dead," the reporter subconsciously blurted out, seemingly combating his statement of how her parents were letting her do this.

Maxwell Lord's eyes snapped to the reporter than to the television. Her looked to the side as he could relate, his parents had died in a government experiment with a biological virus. "So she shares his backstory..." He huffed quietly and scratched the side of his head.

"Do you have anything more to say Mister Lord?"

He stood there silently for a few seconds, but finally spoke. "If she hadn't killed all of the robbers, we could have learned about this stint. Instead, in the middle of the night the bank was bombed and there was a second robbery attempt. Though she did try to stop it, at her own cost." He ran a hand through his hair, clenching his jaw. "She needs someone to advise her, to keep her on the straight and narrow. Otherwise, our maintenance cost will skyrocket, which we clearly don't need."

Blasting away from the Television, she made her way towards the bank. As she approached, twirled as she went straight overhead of all those present. She double backed and headed straight for a landing position a few meters away from Maxwell.

However several seconds before she could land, the sound of a rocket launching breached her sense of hearing. Turning her head, she saw the trail of black smoke, a rocket propelled grenade coming right for her.

Frowning, she spun around and flew directly at it, her heat vision charging up. "You're not taking me down this time..." She uttered and fired a beam of two colors, causing the rocket to explode enroute to its target.

Just then she flew through the smoke, heading straight for the Intergang robot which was situated on a rooftop just down the block.

The familiar nauseating feeling was spreading through her body, she felt clammy, and it became hard to breath like her throat was closing up. Her eyes darted over to see that there were Kryptonite shavings stuck to her suit.

'Purchase the protected suit,' in that moment her suit transformed. several pieces of metal grew from her elastic suit and a helmet composed her face beneath the hood. She looked like an armored Quarian from Mass Effect.

『Purchase Approved. Please check your status for your current balance.』

The sickening feelings vanished as quickly as they came. Even with the Kryptonite on her body, she didn't seem at all effected. She had adapted with the help of this suit and landed directly in front of the bot.

"Hello, hello." She said, the little light on her helmet below the mouth flashed with every syllable she spoke. Unlike a Quarian helmet, her eyes were not visible, it simply looked as if the inside of the helmet was filled with eternal darkness.

She was the Abyss.

The intergang robot dropped the RPG and pulled out a pulse rifle, aiming it directly in her face. "Die Kryptian!" The mechanical voice was cold and lethal.

"So flimsy," She said before reaching forward, taking hold of the robot's rifle arm and tugging it with a flick of her wrist. The arm popped off like a lego, and she tossed it aside.

"Damage critical... OVERLOADING!"

The robot seemed to have electricity arcing from it after losing its arm. It's dark outer shell was becoming a red color. It was as if it was getting ready to explode. That is just what it did, as the robot exploded, it sent the girl flying and barreling on the asphalt below the building. The roof collapses inward, but there was no one inside. Nothing had been lost.

Maxwell Lord and the News Crew captured it all.

Mister Lord held his jaw, his palm over his mouth, as he shook his head a little. He was holding a small smile at the fact that she had gotten blown up again.

As she moved to stand back up, half of her helmet's visor had been blown open. Dusting herself off she seemed entirely nonchalant as she turned to face the news crew. The suit itself was repairing itself, the visor covering her face quickly.

Lord stared at her for a few moments, he had seen part of her teenage babyface before the visor had completely repaired itself. "She really is just a kid," he said to himself as she kicked off the ground and flew straight into the air. "With some pretty high self repairing tech..."
