"Well that was Unexpected." Bisma said out loud from the side.
"Is it me or does Kaden know way too many powerful people? That kid is the crown prince of a whole galaxy." Jason commented.
"It's not exactly that surprising by now. After all, his mother and father's family have a number of high council members. His grandmother is a living legend" Tommy added as he snacked on some chips. He always has some kind of snack close at hand.
The last boy of the group remained silent. Bruce was still learning how the hierarchy of his new world worked.
"Thirteen historical families hog up the power for trillions of others." Ash joined their conversation. "It's kind of crazy when you think about it. The Maximoff's control a whole galaxy, sure but they are still subservient to House Lee. You could say Maximo is Kaden's henchman." She added
"I don't think Kaden sees it that way though." Hinata defended. She was not just speaking up because she liked him but also thought Kaden was just as confused as the rest of them.
"Little Max is a show off. He does not think of Kaden as his boss. More like a big brother he has not seen in a long time. He is also a simpleton so just treat him like you do the rest of us. Savannah and the other girl that is coming is a different matter. Both of their fathers are council members. They have supporters that can even threaten my position." Jessica warned. She did not care for Savannah but had to amite she was capable and had powerful backers.
Currently to the side of the field Kaden was patting his old friend on the back. Maximo had calmed down now and was excited to catch up with Kaden.
"The two devils are here too. Be careful of their plots, bro. Since we left earth those two demons always find ways to torture me. I'm really glad…" Maximo was cut off from continuing to share his past experiences.
"Little sister, did you hear what the great Crybaby said?" Savannah's voice stops Maximo in mid sentence. The second voice made him stand up and run behind his butler Camen.
"Something about devils and demons. It is funny I never once remember seeing any such creature around his home. A pity since they make great summons depending on the type." Celestia replied. She was very satisfied with today's outcome.
Mr Flanagan, you have never met Celestia Mary Wenchester before." Savannah said. "She was not with us in the village when we were little because of some complications." Savannah introduced the newcomer to Kaden.
"Nice to meet you." Kaden told Celeste before giving Savannah a welcoming nod. "We need to start our practice section. Jessica, can you please go get Max back here? I like for us to do a formal greeting and start our individual training." He then asked.
Introduction was a basic affair. Each person stated their names and showed off their grimoires. All so they could better strategy how to work as a cohesive team.
Max could borrow the powers of his creature alot like how Kaden could. Max's grimoires specialized in anthropomorphic avians that lived in Sky Palaces. His world was a large mass of endless clouds. His main summons was a lightning sparrow who would protect him and an avian female magic caster who could buff his speed and strength. Even though he was the youngest team member he was the most advanced. Even Jessica was not that far ahead.
Only Savannah could outdo Maximo in progress. She had been training longer than him and harder than Jessica. Jessica hated how training made them age fast so she never put her full effort into it. Savannah was different. Her family values were also harsher than Jessica's. Savannah had to work hard to make sure her little sister and other brothers did not usurp her current position in their family. In the Rochester house being surpassed by your juniors never had a good outcome.
Savannah had six summon contracts. She could materialize, with the aid of precious gems, four of them. Sea creatures and water based attacks were her forta.
The four sea nymphs under Savannah control gave her power over water and ice. She could conjure storms and breathe underwater. The ocean world gave Savannah access to various ointments and potions that were created by the merfolk that lived in her world. Mostly creams and tonics for healing wounds and clearing one's mind. Though she did have a small collection of nasty poisons too.
Celestia was about the mana reserves the same as Kaden's group. She would also be attending as a proper student. Unlike Maximo and Savannah, she had plenty she could learn from those classes. Though she already knew all the theoretical knowledge she was still lacking in social interactions.
Maximo was the same. A sheltered child but he, unlike Celestia, refused to go to class. He said making friends in Kaden's group was enough social interaction. He rather spent the time training himself on his ship. Then waste the time fraternizing with people he would never see. Especially once the tournament was over.
Miss Winchester grimoire was linked to a highly advanced world. Celestia had access to cutting edge technology. Able to summon mechanical robots of various types. She could also call forth huge futuristic cannons to blast her targets to smothering. She was the epitome of a glass cannon.
Energy was the currency required to complete the ritual of summoning.
Luckily she was a princess with access to plenty of battery banks to draw from. The ship that had brought her to the station also held a large quantity of power banks. The fusion reactor aboard constantly recharged her useage.
The cost of summoning was not an equal exchange. Many factors were involved. The school had every class reinforce that fact. Teachers would always give examples of promising Summoners whose life was cut short over doing it. To not overuse their abilities if they could not afford it.
Three new members join just like that. Each at a step above in training and knowledge then the original freshman excluding Jessica.
"So only Savannah wants to stay in the penthouse. We will have to move Bee's stuff out of the spare room and send it over to the west wing." Jessica told everybody at the dining table.
They technically had a full team of ten now. Six males, Kaden, Bruce, Bisma, Tommy, Jason, and Maximo. Four girls consisting of Jessica, Hinata, Ash, Celestia, and Savannah. Once each master had some basic spells and had mastery over at least one summoned creature they could begin team training.
They basically formed a battle squad and would wage a war against their competitors. Matches in a round-robin tournament would be held by grades. The final two teams with the most points would face off against one in another until only one team remained standing.
Near fatal wounds or being rendered incompasatated would remove the individual's participation. Weakening the team overall. Those unable to continue the fight would be automatically teleported out of the field by the judging staff.
"No way, we got to put our lives in those judges hands?" Bruce asked in disbelief.
"Mr Campbell the tournament has not had a student die in over a thousand years." Celestia reassured him.
"Yeah, only a small number of idiots become crippled from time to time." Max chimed in.
"Overdraw, every case was because the person exceeded their limits of mana." Jessica explained.
"Or they did not prepare enough resources and Over-Summoned." Savannah added.
"Some creatures are not kind even if they are powerful. They will take their payment regardless of your status." Hinata to Bruce and looked at Kaden. All common knowledge but still new concepts to the two boys.
"With the five major families supporting us we should not have to worry about such things happening. This first six months is focused on growing outmana reserves. Even Jessica and Maximo are no exceptions." Kaden spoke up.
"Sound good boss," Tommy chimed in.
"So you decide we follow the dean's training program then?" Jason asked.
"Yeah, it's balanced enough that I don't think we will get burned out." Kaden answered.
"Are you sure? Is it not because with that fat cat's guidance you have a whole extra hour to read your precious books?" Ash teased.
"Haha, you wrong Ash. The training manual from his grandma. Sir Beelzebub just passed it over to him. Else Kaden would have everyone reading a book about mana generation and not physically doing any training." Savannah told Kaden's little secret.
"Hehe, that sounds about right." Jessica could not help but laugh. Everyone else joined in at Kaden's expense.
May Lee was currently standing in front of a tall man. He could be called handsome if not for the ghastly pale skin, pointy ears, and sharp teeth. The fact that he smelt like rotten flesh did not help either.
"Mordan, why have you come here?" May asked the man. She rather not have to deal with him but he was someone who every few could.
"Why ask when you know? The council orders I must obey. Is that satisfactory for you?" He answered sarcastically. Truly an unpleasant creature.
"The three missing girls. I assume it was also your doing." She then told him.
"Yes, of course they were not really girls nor students. Else I have not purged them. Face dancers meat is a tasty treat for my minions. Don't you find it curious why three interlopers could pass as Rockhurst students. I of course reported it to my controller. The bastard seems to already be aware." Mordan replied before disappearing into the shadows.
May Lee's silence after he answered was basically a dismissal. He did not want to hang around the women. Just in case she decided he also needed purging.
Mordan was extremely aware of the little old lady's true abilities. He even knew her old weak looking body, wrinkling skin and graying hair was all camouflage. If she decided his services no longer benefit the human race she could end him in a second. Nobody would stop her. Not for him. Even the Council only kept him as a hound dog for convenience.
"Beelzebub, go back to your work, I'll keep watch over those old goats on the Council. If their plots involve my family then they only got themselves to blame for the aftermath." May Lee dismissed her partner. The rest of what she told Beelzebub was mostly her own thoughts. Bee was used to the lady thinking out loud so he did not pay it any mind.
The pact between May Lee and Beelzebub was more complicated than a simple summoning contract. He was not bound by any contracts but her hold over his fate would always be the linchpin of their relationship. It kept Beelzebub honest and motivated. Else the demon might cause havoc if freed from her shackles.
He would not do such a boring thing though. He likes his current lifestyle. He had easy access to plenty of food and quiet places to rest. Even if he had to do a mundane thing like work.
