There is something she hasn't told Kazuya yet.
Contrary to what it looked like, she's still hidden a lot of things from him. However, since he already discovered her magic abilities; then she might as well be straight forward regarding this matter too. Lyn closed her eyes; there's a lot of them. Rather are they coming at them in groups of 20 and armed also? That's hardly fair. Tsk, there's a limit to her reflexes and her dodging too. Guess there's no choice, Lyn pulled out a sword from her side, a crimson red one.
Kazuya's eyes widened in alarm, "Lyn, why do you have something like that?" he trails off, "Rather you carry that with you," He didn't seem too surprised like he expected it.
"By the way, this is custom made and ..." Lyn paused as another wave headed their way she uses the sword to block it. " ... even my reflexes have their limits you know. Trying dodging attacks at the speed of light every day."
No person alive dares to go against Queen Orthez. No person alive can break the Queen's barrier. But what if the attack came from the inside? Lyn understood now who these people were. The ones who beat Kazuya up and she interfered, they were part of the guards that protect this place. Most likely after that incidence, they spread the word regarding her existence to the anti fractions. But even now Lyn could tell something was amiss.
"Yeah, I tried that and looked what happened to me," Kazuya joked, his usual laughter followed.
"This is hardly the time to joke. Please run away".
Lyn thought was somewhat hesitant on that factor too. Since she wasn't exactly sure who the target between the two of them was. No, the target isn't her. It's Kazuya, the first batch of people Kazuya dealt with had no ill intentions towards her. In fact when she tripped and fell, one broke her balance. These people aren't part of the anti-royal fraction, judging from their movements, "The blue assassin's?" Lyn murmured.
In the Mist Kingdom, they divide the groups of Assassins amongst noble status. People refer to the ones from the royal family to by color. The blue assassins, Lyn called out, "Brother! Stop messing around."
In the darkness, she hears a burst of familiar laughter confirming her thoughts.
Kazuya nodded, "Your brother?"
"Has inherited my mothers twist sense of a personality," Lyn sighed, "I'm sorry Kazuya, he always does this whenever he sees me get close to anyone."
"By brother, do you mean the 1st or second Prince?"
It surprised Lila how calm he was, usually when one hears the second Prince of another Kingdom is attacking them they would panic, Lyn, paused but answered, "Ah? The second."
A huge grin appeared on Kazuya's face, "Then, that's fine."
She raised her eyebrows in understanding. Is Kazuya that confident regarding his abilities? Then again Lyn can't say for sure that she knows how strong he is. Lyn hesitated, but she nodded. Kazuya reached over and gently caressed her hair. His hands are warm.
"So if you're going to use a weapon. Why not something cooler like a Halberd or Tonfa?"
Lyn grimaced, "Kazuya, enforcing your fetishes now isn't pleasant at all," she trails off, "Besides are you asking a Princess to carry such weapons with them?"
Kazuya smiled, "That's true; I figured something was amiss during our training. But you can fight using a blade?"
Lyn nodded, "I'll warn you, I'm only a beginner at this." She does not have a proper battle experience. Aside from her brother's little tests, she's fought no one before, "Kazuya?"
"Lyn, don't worry. Not only will I protect you, but I'll also have your back."
Her eyes go wide at his words. This is a first for her, her first time fighting properly and the first person who said they would fight alongside her. Lyn wonders if Kazuya knew about the past she buried away after all. This is her first proper fight, but her first fight happened the night she was 14 years old — a little over two years ago.
But that is a tale left for another time.
...….....
"By the way Lyn, you don't need magic to summon that blade? That's a blade of darkness right?" Kazuya said.
Lyn looked at him puzzled. Magic? She just closes her eyes, and it appears. Kazuya took her silence as confusion and nodded to himself, "So you can do it; naturally, that's convenient?"
"Convenient?" Lyn asked.
"Yeah," Kazuya paused, "The magic system in the Empire is like this. When your younger you get tested whether you have attributes for magic. These tests vary, from when you're a mere infant right up till your five years old. There are different types of magic, and the levels vary on what color your magic ability is. For nobles, however, their magic is not fixed to one color. The highest for nobles are yellow - but there's a level higher, and that's forbidden magic."
Lyn patiently listened to his explanation, so this blade is made from this forbidden magic? Lyn panicked, "Wait does this mean I'm holding something dangerous.."
She didn't know this sword was dangerous; Lyn looked down at the blade in her hands. But now that he mentions it, the sword is the color of blood. The hilt is in the shape of swirls of smoke, but there are spikes like diamonds dawned on the edges of the blade.
Kazuya sweat fell, "Well you could say that, but hey it's fine. I'm relieved to know that you aren't completely defenseless?"
Why is he relieved? Is it because the two of them are enemies? Though Lyn isn't sure about the enemies part herself. If she learned to fight with this blade properly, would she have to face Kazuya one day? That thought frightens her.
If the day came where she and Kazuya had to stand on opposing sides, Lyn wouldn't know what to do. She doesn't want him to hate her. Lyn buried her face in his back.
"Lyn?"
"Kazuya," she said softly, "No matter what, I'll always be on your side."
He must have understood what she was getting at, since he squeezed her hands, "Yeah, the same goes for me," Kazuya trailed off, "Rest assured, we will always be together. I won't just leave you without saying anything."
It probably isn't this simple, the two of them know better than anyone to make such empty promises like this. But an empty promise is better than nothing.
"My isn't this sickeningly sweet, but you two do realize you're in the middle of a fight?"
Lila frowned when she heard the voice echoing throughout the night, but the person in question would not reveal themselves. Even if it is her second brother, he's taking this too far! Or rather something is wrong; normally he would have stopped the test by now. Normally all one has to do is prove they can fend off the first group of attackers. Kazuya already did so earlier.
"Seems like your brother really dislikes my guts," Kazuya said, an amused smile on his face.
"This isn't funny," Lyn snapped. One does not pick a fight with the Second Prince of another Kingdom. Everybody knows that members of the royal family will always be stronger; she cannot let Kazuya fight her brother. But her present strength cannot protect both of them.
Kazuya turned her around and suddenly lifted her, "Wah-" Lyn exclaimed, what is he doing now? Lyn was about to protest when she saw the serious look in his eyes, "Kazuya?" she said softly.
"I guess I have to earn the Princess trust on this one. Maybe you'll like me more once you see how strong I am."
