With Ethen Wayne gone and Professor Selvig back in his shield issued laboratory, Nick Fury takes out an old looking pager from his desk. Looking at this antiquated piece of technology, memories of his old friend surface in his mind. Before long a short message is typed in and he presses the slightly larger sent button.
Having expected an immediate reaction, he frustrated places the pager back inside his desk, forgetting to have ever used it.
At the same time, far away from earth in a geostationary orbit around a small moon of Hala, inside a Kree transporter, a cryopod suddenly activates, before opening. Breathing heavy can be heard and one can see a blond haired female slowly, weakly opening her eyes.
Having been in cryostasis for an unknown amount of time Carol Danvers, just like her spaceship steadily come back to life. As the woman slowly gains her senses, she instantly feels that something has fundamentally changed in the universe. Having her awareness bolstered through her travels across Exo-Space, she normally is able to see the cage outside of her reality that's binding her Universe, but now...
Being shocked right awake, by what she discovers the woman drags her still weak body out of the cryopod and the medical bay. Supporting herself by leaning against the walls of her spaceship she reaches the cockpit. Turning on the display, she checks out her messages.
Surprise flicker over her face as she reads a message from an old friend.
-Need help to evaluate treat level. Nick.-
Once again using her Cosmic Awareness at first, but then switching to her Hyper-Cosmic Awareness, Carol is able to pinpoint the origin of her previously discovered confusion. Once again a surprised expression flickers over her face. Ever since she left Earth and the Starforce she heads the search for a new purpose in her life. As a soldier without a war to fight she had felt out of place, both on Earth and on Hala.
Now with this great new disturbance in the universe, she simply has to investigate it. Being able to see how her old friend on earth is doing, is only the cherry on top of an exciting new adventure. Activating her spaceships advanced warp-drive, after having entered Earth coordinates into the autopilot,
While Nick Fury gives up all hope of once again meeting his old friend and Captain Marvel is on her way back to Earth, Ethen and his guide have a mild disagreement.
''... You know what!... Let's just have fun and care about the consequences later!...'' States Deadpool at one point in the argument about what to do next.
''This place here, should not exist!...'' Says Ethen, still depressed about what 'God' revealed to him. Not only would he forever be unable to see his parents again, but he was doomed to never return to his timeline. So he depressed has to admit. ''... I shouldn't exist.''
Hearing Ethen's depressing comment Wade says. ''So should taxes and death, but we can only avid one of them!''
''Haha, very funny...'' Says Ethen for the very first time saying and meaning something totally sarcastic before stating serious. ''... I just don't know what to do anymore...''
''Oh, buhu! Do you know how it feels to be lonely and incapable of properly stretch one's body?...'' Shoots Wade, totally incapable of reading the mood. ''... Let me tell you it has been my worst experience ever and I have experienced nearly everything.''
Ignoring the talking skull, Ethen remembers his mother's smile, as well as his father's gentle heart. Both his mother and father were the best people, superheroes by day and a loving couple by night. Not only were they able to succeed against impossible odds, but also the typical day to day problems that can make or break a relationship or marriage.
Being told by 'God' himself that he could neither avenge more go back, Ethen gets more and more depressed, murmuring. ''... What to do?''
''I say we do whatever we want!...'' Suggests Deadpool. ''... Didn't that old foggy say that you being a villain or a hero would be determined by your actions? Isn't doing nothing the way of a coward?''
Being hit by the skulls hard to hear, but neither the less truthful words, realization dawns on Ethen, as he suddenly stares right at Deadpool saying. ''You are right! Doing nothing makes me a coward. Doing good makes me a hero. Doing bad makes me a villain... I gave Fury my word. Breaking it, while being a coward makes me something worse than a villain...''
''WTF?!...'' Shouts Wade in utter disbelief. ''... Did you just make sense out of my ramblings? Did I just become the voice of reason?''
Ignoring the skull, while having deep thoughts, Ethen tells himself. ''... To fulfill my promise to Fury I will need an armor...''
''What did you promise that chief ball buster of a Director?''
While Ethen with the sometimes helpful, other times not so much helpful Deadpool are brainstorming a new Armor for Ethen, Carol Danvers finally arrives on earth to meet her old friend. Activating her spaceships cloaking protocol, she lands safely on the dark side of the moon since earth's detection systems of the past had not been capable to reach there.
Only now does Carol realize, that she is still naked. Being forced to completely undress before going into cryostasis, as to avoid cellular frostbrand, she simply forgot her undressed state.
Having her body mostly returned to full strength, she is now able to move without any problem or discomfort. Rubbing the last bit of cold out of her flesh, she easily walks to the small onboard armory containing not only advanced Kree weaponry but also her armor.
Still being in rubbing her still cold and slightly tender double Ds, Carol walks into the armory. Contrary to the general interior of the ship, this room is not dominated by a clean white color, but a dirty grey.
Taping a small screen on a larger weapons cabinet, a green tree combat armor is revealed and old wounds are reopened, as Carol once again remembers her ex-husband and mentor, Mar-Vell's tragic death, caused by lung cancer. "Blackened" the Kree called it.
Looking at his green Kree armor, with all it's claw marks and bullet holes, the memories of the two of them fighting against Robert "Nitro" Hunter. Back then neither of them believed that breathing in the nerve gas would have lasting effects on them. That believe only stayed true for her and not for him, as it took its toll on him with time, as their combined efforts to find a cure for it, as well as their marriage, were ultimately destined to fail.
A year before his death Mar-Vell relocated to Titan, a moon of Saturn. There he spent his last days with his by-then lover Elysius of Titan. Only after his death did Elysis reveal to Carol the true reason for her divorce, as their common lover tried to push her to away too, the only difference being that Elysis contrary to Carol refused to leave him.
Not wanting to remember any more of her now nonexistent love life, she once again taps the small screen, closing the weapon cabinet. Moving on to the next one she once again taps a screen to unlock the cabinet. This time a red and blue Kree combat suit is revealed. Looking at it, fond memories of glorious past victories trickle into her consciousness, as a bright smile appears on her face.
Shortly after, a fully dressed Carol Danvers activates her suits integrated helmet. Despite being able to survive in the vacuum of space, she still prefers to breathe normally. Exiting her spaceship through the airlock, she simply flies down to earth. As she nears the big blue planet, she suddenly is assaulted by the strong need to belong somewhere. Not wanting to admit to being lonely, as her soldier self wouldn't allow her to dwell on her own emotions for long, she uses her Cosmic Awareness to once again pinpoint the anomalies and Furys location. To her own surprise, both seem to be in the same area. Speeding up, Carol decides to first meet her old friend before investing the anomaly, thinking that her old friend might be able to provide some intel on it.
