บท 30: Ruby and Elizabeth

--------------------------Please read the Authors' note at the bottom, thanks.--------------------------

Robyn always stayed in the same house when she was over at the Loyal Eagle Clan. She was lying on the bed in her room when there was a knock on her door. She knew who it was and called for her to enter. Liana opened the door slowly and slipped her body into the room, closing the door behind her. Robyn sat up and asked with a gentle smile on her face,

(Robyn) "What is it?"

Liana hesitated, unsure whether to ask her question. Robyn's face softened when she noticed Liana's hesitation. She patted the space beside her and Liana walked over slowly and sat down. Turning her body to face her, Robyn spoke.

(Robyn) "You want to ask about earlier, don't you?"

Liana nodded slowly. Robyn's expression didn't change but Liana felt her mood become more serious.

(Robyn) "It's… complicated, but I'll explain it to the best of my abilities."

Liana nodded slowly before saying softly,

(Liana) "I know there are some things that you probably can't tell me and I understand that. But I'm really confused as to what happened earlier. Liz said something and Lillian's demeanour and emotions completely changed."

Robyn sighed softly.

(Robyn) "I've known Lil for almost eight years now, and I've never seen her react the way she did. This is not saying that I don't know why she reacted like that, though."

She frowned as she continued slowly,

(Robyn) "Liz's words had some meaning to it, but the real meaning was what really mattered. I'm not sure exactly what she said to Lil, if you want to know you'll have to ask her yourself. I do know though, that it involved you."

Liana's eyes widened.

(Robyn) "The amount of protectiveness the girl has over you is amazing. Liz probably just reminded Lillian that he was here to hurt you, and that triggered something in her, making her react like that."

Liana blushed lightly, but she was too preoccupied to respond any further. Robyn, sensing that Liana had gotten lost in her own thoughts, sighed internally knowing that her explanation had just gotten seen right through by Liana.

(Robyn, through her thoughts to Lillian) ''Sorry, Lil, your girl is just too smart. You're going to have to explain it to her yourself.''

Lillian, who was catching up with some of her chief work, heard the thought that Robyn directed to her and frowned. She sent a short reply to Robyn through mind-link, making Robyn smile a little to herself.

Liana concluded something in her mind and turned her attention back to Robyn just as she smiled. Liana tilted her head slightly to the side and asked,

(Liana) "What is it?"

Robyn's smile widened slightly as she shook her head.

(Robyn) "Nothing much."

She examined Liana's expression for a while before asking,

(Robyn) "You aren't convinced by my explanation, are you."

Liana raised an eyebrow but shook her head slightly. Robyn simply shrugged in response and said,

(Robyn) "Yeah. It's better if you just go ask her yourself."

Liana nodded slowly.

(Liana) "Thank you, anyway."

She stood up and turned to leave, but as she reached the door Robyn called out to her.

(Robyn) "Liana."

Liana turned with a quizzical look on her face.

(Liana) "What is it?"

Robyn smiled as she said,

(Robyn) "It takes a lot for her to put her trust in someone, much more so for her to depend on someone the way she does you. Don't hurt her, and take care of her for me, will you?"

Liana blinked in surprise before replying softly,

(Liana) "Of course. Thanks."

Robyn nodded and Liana exited the room, on her way to Lillian's office. Robyn laid back on her bed again, staring upwards at nothing at all.

(Robyn's thoughts) 'I wonder whether she'll still need me or even depend on me now.'

Having gotten so used to being the only one Lillian went to for comfort, she felt weird knowing that there was finally someone else.

(Robyn's thoughts) 'I guess I should be happy she finally found her.'

There was a knock on her door and for the second time in an hour, Robyn called for the person to enter.

(Ruby) "Sis?"

Robyn sat up and looked at her sister.

(Robyn) "Where's Liz?"

Ruby frowned and Robyn immediately knew something was up.

(Robyn) "What did she do?"

Ruby shook her head as she walked over to sit beside her sister.

(Ruby) "She didn't do anything."

Robyn raised an eyebrow, but didn't say anything, waiting for her sister to continue.

(Ruby) "It's… what she's going to do."

Robyn raised both her eyebrows.

She can't be talking about that… can she?

Ruby frowned as she asked softly, knowing that her sister knew what she was talking about.

(Ruby) "What should I do?"

Robyn chuckled softly as she said,

(Robyn) "Whatever you feel is right. I'll support you all the way."

Ruby giggled softly as she said,

(Ruby) "She's really nervous about it. I think she forgot that the deeper she buries it the more I can read it."

Robyn smiled.

(Robyn) "Then you should probably give a gentle reminder. Don't ruin the surprise for yourself."

Ruby nodded lightly. She felt better after talking to her sister. She enjoyed her time with Liz, ever since the first time they met they'd been inseparable. Well, not technically, but you get it. However even with Liz, it always felt different from when she talked to her sister. Their parents had always been more distant than Robyn, and this is not saying that their parents didn't spend enough time with them. In fact, they'd make sure that they'd spend at least a day with their children, no matter how busy they were. Robyn and Ruby were both very smart as kids, and they soon picked up that their parents were really busy running the clan, which was stressful work, so when they spent time together, they'd always work together to make their parents forget about the clan matters during the time they were spending together.

Ruby didn't know why, but she always felt safer with her sister than with anyone else. With Liz it was different, something she wanted for the rest of her life, but for now, her sister's comfort was enough for her. She laid her head on her sister's shoulder as they sat in a comfortable silence.

(Ruby) "I should probably go back. She's panicking really badly."

Meanwhile in Lillian's office,

Lillian had just finished explaining what Liana had wanted to know, including her skill that lets her read between the lines of someone's speech. Liana had an amused look on her face as she asked,

(Liana) "Is your sister okay? She's really panicking for some reason."

Lillian closed her eyes for a second before replying,

(Lillian) "Ruby abandoned her to go talk to her sister. Don't worry about them. As long as they're not separated by Clan borders, they can't spend a very long time apart from each other. Ruby will go back to find her soon and she'll calm down instantly."

Liana had an incredulous look on her face.

(Liana) "Seriously?"

Lillian nodded.

(Lillian) "Ruby probably found out about Liz's plan and wanted her sister's advice on what to do, thus having to ditch Liz for a while. She also obviously didn't tell my sister where she was going, thus, the panicking. Liz is also still really nervous even though it's so obvious what her answer is going to be."

Liana laughed and nodded. She didn't even need her skill to tell how Liz and Ruby felt about each other. It was pretty much written all over their faces.

At the same time…

Liz was panicking. Really badly. Even though there was no real reason to.

(Liz's thoughts) 'What if she says no? I don't think she will, but there's always a chance… No, I can't think about that.'

She paced around the room Ruby had ditched her in as she got lost in her thoughts.

(Liz's thoughts) 'Why did she leave the room and tell me to stay here? She didn't even tell me where she was going. What if she found out and went to tell her sister? No, that's okay. Robyn's cool. But what if she was going to tell her that she's gonna say no? What if—'

(Ruby) "You're going to wear a hole into the ground if you keep up with that."

Liz spun around at the sound of Ruby's voice.

Ruby was smirking at her but walked right past her and sat down.

(Ruby) "Don't try to hide whatever thoughts you're thinking unless you really want me to be able to hear them."

(Liz's thoughts) 'Oh right. I forgot about her skill. I'm such an idiot.'

(Lillian, through mind-link to Liz) "Yes you are."

Liana had convinced Lillian to comfort her sister, but by the time she finally did it, Ruby had already returned back to Liz.

(Lillian, through mind-link to Liz) "Seriously though, Liz. Do you seriously think she's gonna reject it?"

Liz sighed as she replied Lillian, arguing that there was always a possibility unless she explicitly said that she wasn't going to.

(Ruby) "Liz, you—. Liz."

To be honest, the argument was really flimsy and with a few words from Lillian, the whole thing crumbled into dust.

(Ruby) "Liz. Liz. Liz. ELIZABETH KATHRIN!!"

Liz snapped out of her conversation with her sister and turned to Ruby, who was glaring daggers into her head.

(Liz) "Ruby, I'm sorry I wasn't ignoring you I was—"

Unfortunately for her, Ruby wasn't feeling very forgiving. Nor was she in a listening mood, since Liz had just ignored her—is what she thought—, but poor Liz isn't gonna get a chance to explain.

(Ruby) "You can sleep in your own room tonight."

Liz's face turned ashen. She really really enjoyed cuddling with Ruby, since she was always cold at night and Ruby's body temperature was always controlled. Whenever she was at the Copper Blades Clan, she wasn't given a room since she always just roomed with Ruby. When Ruby was over, she didn't stay in her own room the whole time. Unless something like this happened, of course.

(Liz) "Blue, please…"

She used her long-time nickname for Ruby, as when they first met, she misheard Ruby, who knows how, as Blue. Since then, she'd always call her that when she was trying to act cute, or in this situation, trying to get back into Ruby's good books.

Again, unfortunately for Liz, Ruby was not phased.

(Ruby) "No."

(Liz) "Pleaseeee? I'll do anything."

Ruby raised an eyebrow.

(Ruby) "Anything?"

Liz nodded vigorously, willing to do anything to get her warm blank— 'cough'— her cuddling partner back. However, when Ruby smiled, she immediately knew she was going to regret it.

(Ruby) "Spar me. If you win, you win an additional prize, but if you lose, you're doing what I say for the rest of the week without question. Either way, you'll get to cuddle me, or as you like to call me, get your warm blanket back."

Liz's reaction was a mix of a blush and paling, which made it look really comical. Knowing that she had no way out of it, she agreed reluctantly.

Lillian had already prepped a training room and told her sister so, so all they needed to do was go there and start the spar. When they got there, however, there were already five people there. Lillian and Liana, along with Robyn, and Rose and Elena. They were sitting on seats Lillian had made around the training area.

(Lillian) "Don't worry, we're not going to bother you, we're just here to watch."

Ruby seemed to completely ignore the fact that they had an audience and dragged Liz onto the sparring area. Liz, on the other hand, was struggling as much as she could, but Ruby was stronger than her. Which also meant the match was decided even before they got onto the platform.

Both of them stood at either side of the platform and did a way of greeting each other Liana found really amusing. From either side of the platform, they ran directly at each other, putting their hands in front of them, and when their hands made impact, they used the momentum to flip upwards into the air, both doing half a flip before straightening their bodies. Their feet hit and they were sent flying in the opposite direction. They each did three flips before landing firmly on each side of the sparring area. How it was even possible is a good question that no one has the answer to.

The match itself was… let's just say when Ruby charged at Liz and started attacking her vigorously, Liz didn't even stand a chance, waiting for the two-minute mark before surrendering, as she couldn't surrender before that point. The whole two minutes had consisted of her dodging and blocking Ruby's attacks, never counterattacking.

For the third time, unfortunately for Liz, Ruby's attacking skills far surpassed her defence skills and… the result was not pretty. Getting a good laugh out of the match, the five spectators disappeared quickly after Liz surrendered.

Ruby laughed as well and said,

(Ruby) "Thanks. I really needed that."

She grabbed Liz's wrist, making her wince as she had gotten hit there ten too many times, along with every point on her body, or so it seemed to her. Ruby dragged her back to her room and made Liz sit on the bed before standing in front of her with both palms pointed towards her. Her hands glowed golden for a good five minutes before all the wounds Liz had acquired were fully healed. Still, five minutes was impressive, but this happened so often that it was merely another day for Liz and Ruby.

Okay so this part is what I wanted you guys to see if you bothered to open this: I'm gonna take a week or two break, so I won't be updating next week, but you'll find out whether or not I'm updating the week after when I find out.

Hope you guys have a good holiday season if it's your holidays or whatever,

You can read the next part or not it's up to you

Hey guys hope you enjoyed the chapter, its more of a filler chapter than anything, and so doesn't really put any progress to the story... I think? Which is also why the writing style kinda changed a bit it's supposed to be like a slice of life kinda thing I guess

Anyways I figured I should probably put this in here: My books are not based in any way whatsoever of my real life. I write as a form of escape so there are little to none realistic things in this book. Everything in the book is completely from my imagination, some may have been inspired by some shows or books, but ultimately it's all made up from scratch.

Thanks for reading so far and for putting up with my amateurish writing.
