The short-haired woman remembered the kid Chris was sheltering right now. Such a young fellow was made to taste utter hopelessness and lived through it for more than a year.

There was also that blonde woman Maila who went through something more traumatic. The shell of that woman might be different, but she was confident that the memories at least were authentic. Yet because they were real that Sofony felt sad about her and didn't immediately have her killed after discovering all the abnormalities in her. 

It was hard to tell how many of the folks she rescued tonight had gone through the same level of sh*ts. But while this proved her claim, it also showed that not everyone pushed to the brink of death and made to suffer hell on earth could be so fortunate to be bound by the system.
