In the fourth book, I want to tell a story of one man's crusade against a system that was designed to oppress and prevent the success of an entire race.
When one group of people rises above in power relative to the others, history often shows that this comes directly as a result of downfall and oppression of the other group. This reigns true even in the post-scarcity society of this book.
Given the current world events, I have been planning to touch on the topics of politics, havinging your voice silenced and creating change ever since June 2019, and with every day going by, I felt more and more of a need to touch on this topic.
The number one principle I want to try to convey throughout the fourth book is that the good fight is always worth fighting for, but what is also important is also the way that fight is fought.
Brakagi, our Rocky protagnist was removed from power by being vocal against the system that also historically oppressed the Rockies on the galactic stage. In desperation, he felt like the only way to strive for change on a galactic scale would be to expose the wrong doing of the galactic government. However, that action alone would have also cost trillions of lives that perished directly due to Brakagi's actions.
Is what he did justified?
The eternal debate of means versus ends will always go on, but who gets to draw the line of when an action to provoke change is too much?
That's one of the questions I hope I have posed in the fourth book, as the crisis ramps up in the coming months.
There should be nuance in the way we approach such matters. As a common trope in resistance forces in pop culture, there are those that wished to fight for a better day, there are those that fought because they know of nothing else, there are those that fought because that's the only way they know can create change and there are those that fought for revenge.
Who is to say who is more 'righteous' than the other? And how do we know whether one motivation and subsequent methods of fighting and change is better than the other?
History will know the answer, and I am sure most of us will know the answer.
However, I do not think we should also sit on the high horse and point to those that tried to incite change through methods that they deemed as the only way. This is exactly the time we need to embrace each other and understand that our past experiences shape who we are and what we do.
It is often in this times that we acknowledge what is wrong, what should be done about it, and do it the right way. In my opinion, that is the best way to incite change.
Just as Brakagi will soon realize, Rockies being powerful over a galaxy of ruins is not as satisfying and snapping as he thought it would be.
These are the things I want you guys to read and think about. I sincerely apologize if I am not able to convey that through my stories. In case that unfortunate thing happens, I have written this article to just touch on a few things.
Fight with love.
Communicate with love.
We are all in this together.
