As Lacey brushed the young girl's red flowing locks, pulling the top layer back into a small braid and placed two flower clips into her hair. She knew one day she would die protecting Ellsie from the Duchess, she'd known all along how much that woman loathed both Ellsie and Eric. Whilst Eric was easier to manipulate, look like a younger version of the Duke and was 6 months old when their mother died, the Duchess had found it a lot easier to handle. However Ellsie was a living reminder that the Duke had once chosen Emily over her.

"Alright milady you're all done ready to meet the Marquess' son." While she had always been on guard around the Duchess, Lacey never would have suspected that Marquess and his son would have anything to do with her plan's.
"Lacey are you sure there is no way of getting out of this engagement?" Ellsie turned in the chair and looked up at the woman. Her blue eyes and her lips had wrinkles around them, her fingers were shaky and whilst her natural blonde colour hid the grey hairs well from this close she would still see them. This woman was the closest she'd ever had to a mother and knew she had to find a way to protect her, the way Lacey had protected her for so many years.
"Oh my dear, you have to get married sooner or later and Henry is a very suitable young man. He's from a good family, he's handsome..."
"He's also in league with my stepmother." Ellsie hadn't told Lacey about what had happened to her, she didn't know how to tell her in a way to which she would believe her. Lacey looked directly into her emerald eyes, she did not know how Ellsie could possible know such a thing, but she trusted her.
"Well in that case..." Lacey let out a sigh. "Without proof you can't go to your father and without a valid reason, he may force you to marry the young lord. You need to find a better offer."
"Hmm..." a better offer huh? Ellsie thought about it for a moment, due to her already exceptional high status that was going to be quite difficult. Just at that moment Ellsie saw a stack of invitations sitting at the end of her dresser. On the stop was the one for the prince's 18th birthday. "How about we ask my dear old friend Lucian." Ellsie held up the invitation smiling mischievously.
"Lucian?" The old maid's eyes widen is uncertainty, had this plot for revenge gone to her head, was she losing her mind? "Ellsie I know his status will definitely work, but are you sure we can trust the second prince?"
