บท 2: Chapter 1

Screams and 'whoos' filled my ears as the stadium lights lit up. I navigated through the crowd, eyeing each student from different schools. A satisfied smirk etched my face as I noticed that the other, opposing cheerleading team were in shambles.

Delilah, my best friend, appeared beside me with the same look on her face. "Poor Tigers." she feigned concern as we watched their captain, one whom we've shared pokes with in the past, yell something at her team. She turned her head and noticed our gazes. This seemed to annoy her as she stomped her way over to us with daggers in her eyes. "Don't pride yourselves, bitches," she growled. Delilah and I shared an amused glance. "May not look like it now, but we'll take the crown before your very eyes."

"Just like how you tried to take it from us the past three years?" I gloated, letting out a mocking laugh, "Don't even try, midget. You know you can't beat us."

The cheerleader looked even more raged than a few minutes ago. "Watch us, bitch-face." with that, she stormed off, heading right back to her team.

"Do those losers genuinely think they can win?" Delilah remarked, "It's shocking; They've gone against us for years, they should know better by now."

"Let them be, Lilah. They can think highly of themselves for a few minutes, then let's show them what a real cheerleading team is." I cajoled. I turned back to my team, clasping my hands together loudly to gain their attention, "Alright everybody, let's quickly go over our routine again!"

-

As expected, we were announced the winners for the third time in a row. I found it sadistically satisfying after the little cheer-smackdown from earlier.

Fumed and tears of anger in her eyes, the captain of the Tigers fell to her knees as the judges announced the winner of this year's cheerleading competition. Pride filled my heart as my team jumped up with gleeful cries at our victory. "Good job, you guys!" I praised, joining along with them.

"Belleview Knights!" they chanted our cheer, clapping and stomping to the rhythm, "Belleview Knights!"

I walked over to the Tigers' captain who watched us with pure hatred from a distance. "We tried to warn you low-lives," I leered, smirking. "We're unbeatable." at my vaunt, the head cheerleader snapped by attempting to throw herself at me, but was quickly held back by her teammates. "Easy, Valerie. She's not worth it." one of the male cheerleaders who carried her spat, glaring at me.

My lips pulled into a sweet smile at their abhorrence, turning my heel to rejoin celebrating with my team. "Let's go, Knights!"

-

I pulled my Mercedes in the drive-way. After the competition, we went out to grab a bite at the Belleview mall, one of my cheerleader's treat for winning. They invited me to the arcade afterward but I turned down. I was absolutely exhausted. It was draining to take down a cheerleader.

Our house was the biggest in town. When my family and I moved here six years ago, they made sure to get the most pretentious one to show that they were better than everyone else. That was a trait I inherited from them, unfortunately.

"Welcome home, Blair," our butler Terrance greeted, with a gentle smile on his face. I gave him a nod to acknowledge him, returning the smile.

"Who's home?" I asked, stepping into the kitchen to grab a drink. "Your mother is at a meeting, and your father went out to play golf. So that leaves you alone." he told me, a little sympathy in his eyes but I ignored it. I nodded, mouth full of water. I swallowed before plodding up the stairs to head to my room.

I twisted the doorknob and pushed it open, relieved to be alone. I then plopped on my bed, closing my eyes for a bit to relax and take in the atmosphere. Being on top of the social ladder was tiring, especially after making sure everyone still ate at the palm of my hand. There were times when I liked to be surrounded by those who admired me, and there were times where I just wanted to shut the whole world out.

My drive to be at the top was brought down to me by my parents. I was wired to be the best of the best, showing everyone that anything they can do, I can do better. I wasn't always like this, but after what happened in the past, I gave in to their words and became the head-bitch I was known for.

My smile was bitter as I reminisced my past for a moment. I've been that girl before, and I was definitely never going back. I was stronger and meaner, and I made sure that no one had the power to bring me down. Not even my parents.

I heard a ding come from my laptop. Sitting up, I walked over to my desk and hovered my finger on the mouse. It was an Instagram notification, saying I was tagged in by one of my members in a photo posted a few seconds ago. Because I was in it, it quickly caught the attention of others, and reached over a thousand likes in no time.

I zoomed in on myself where I was at the top of the pyramid. A forced grin on my lips, hands on my hips and my eyes lacking the twinkle in them that I lost years ago. I sighed, clicking the red 'x' on the web page and fell face flat on my bed.
