The rock mummy groaned under the pressure from Arthur's voice. It held its powerful arms up, looking like Atlas trying to hold the weight of the world… only in this case, the world was invisible.
The scene would have looked quite comedic if Arthur's life was not placed on the line. He added more strength and the rock mummy squatted even lower. The pressure on its shoulders was increasing.
In the end, the mummy was no match for the force in Arthur's shout. It gave away and fell to the ground.
Arthur did not see this as the end and dared not put his guard down. As the shout dwindled away, he started another powerful shout that was as large as the one that preceded it. It smashed heavily down on the rock mummy that was not given the chance to get back up.
The loud crash sent a sound wave that echoed down the corridors. Arthur continued until the rocks were smashed to smithereens. In the end, all that was left of the rock mummy was a bunch of broken pebbles and the yellowed cloth wrap.
The bolt of fabric loosened itself from the broken body of the rock mummy.
When Arthur saw this, he had a grim expression on his face. He had pretty much expended all the magic that was left in his body. However, the battle was not yet over.
The young man watched on as the mummy wrap leaned on the ground and came slithering at him. It climbed up and down the pebbled corridor like the shapeless fabric that it was. How was Arthur going to deal with an enemy that was as troublesome as this?
The mummy wrap slid through the cracks on the floor and it seemed like it was close to grabbing its next victim when Arthur suddenly jumped back from his spot. The wrap missed its target and it merely formed a tight curl around air.
Before the sentient piece of cloth had the chance to react and pursue its aggression, the ground underneath it shone with a fiery light. In just mere seconds, a fire broke out underneath it and the mummy wrap, being a cloth, caught the flames easily.
The end of the wrap that caught the fire slithered and writhed like it was in intense pain but it could do nothing to stop the trail of fire from moving down the rest of the length. Due to it being abandoned for such a long time down here in the abandoned crypt, a place where water was rare and the air was dry, the mummy wrap was incredibly flammable.
The fire ran down the length of the cloth quickly and before long, the enemy that had been entangling with Arthur for so long had nothing left to it other than a few burnt ashes.
The fire lit up the corridor and Arthur's pupils narrowed as they adjusted to the bright light after being underground for so long. However, even with the fire, Arthur was unable to see the top of crypt. This went to show the size and scale of the maze that the young man was trapped in.
After some time, the fire flickered out of existence. Arthur wandered closer to the centre of the flame to check whether the mummy wrap was fully dead. Arthur could not even find the trace of its existence anymore. The rocks around the fire blast were charred and everything had that black hue to it.
"There is no way the mummy wrap will be able to survive a fire that intense." Arthur finally got a chance to take a breather after that harsh battle.
It was the explosive seal that took out the mummy wrap. Before the enemy transformed into a rock monster, Arthur had been thinking about how to deal with this particular adversary. The enemy made from fabric was shapeless so his vocal materialization, which relied fully on the power of force, was useless against an enemy which could contour itself according to the shape of the attack to balance out the force behind the attack.
If that was the case, then Arthur would have to depend on a shapeless attack. Since physical attack would not work, then an elemental attack would. That led Arthur to the idea of using the explosive seal that he was thankful that he had bought back at Celestia.
When he was bending over to catch a break earlier, he was actually setting up the seal.
Other than that, the young man needed the mummy wrap to return to its fabric form before it stepped into the trap. He was afraid that when it was in rock mummy mode, the fire would be stemmed by the rocks or the fire would not be able to destroy the mummy wrap as cleanly as it would when it was just a mere bolt of cloth.
That was why Arthur expended so much energy to shatter the rock mummy into pieces, he was not wasting his energy for no reason.
Arthur sat down on the ground and leaned against the wall to catch his breath. He was going to take a long break this time, because using echolocation, Arthur confirmed that he was quite close to the large space at the centre of the maze.
If this was a video game, this would be the last stretch of peace and quiet before the boss battle.
After he had enough rest, Arthur continued on his journey. After the adventures that he had had, Arthur really did not know what to expect.
He did not come into anymore enemy on his way to the destination even though there were plenty of coffins lying around. It was as if all the enemies had shrunk into the background knowing they were no match for the young man.
Arthur was not that free to personally go and check the coffins either. From his perspective, if the undead was avoiding him, it was all the better because he would be able to save his resource for the final showdown.
