When Han Meixiu didn't answer, it was a give away. Han Mingxia inhaled deeply before she continued.
"As expected for someone who's living like a hermit." The latter murmured to herself.
"I know they're a good family and that I am safe if I'm with them."
"Well, that's true. I was always present in parties back in our college days. I heard a lot about the Liu Family. Their leisure business isn't just about for profit. It also involved a certain network that gathers extensive information. But I'm not sure if it's true. But if it's true, it would be our best option to ask assistance from your husband."
"If it's not?"
"We need to think of another way. You have to remember, time is of the essence."
"What if he asked why do I need to know?"
"Then simply tell him the truth. Why do you seem to be afraid?"
"It's not that I'm afraid, I just don't want him to burden with my circumstances. He already accepted me as his wife when he clearly couldn't get any benefit from it."
"No benefit? Are you sure about that? You didn't do anything together?"
"What do you mean?"
"You're husband and wife, do you really want me to spell it out? Fine! S-E-X! You never did it?"
Han Meixiu was horrified and started to blush as she cursed her cousin. "Shut up! Why do you have spell it out loud!"
"That's already a benefit he got! He was able to..." She couldn't finish her words as Han Meixiu covered her mouth forcefully.
"It's not considered as benefit! It's normal because were married!" She was starting to get furious.
"Hey, I was married, too. We even dated for almost three years but the most intimate thing we did was holding hands!"
"Yours was different!"
Han Mingxia suddenly turned quiet. Those words hit the spot. Yeah, her marriage was different. Her so-called relationship was just a mission.
"Sorry." Han Meixiu realized that her words weren't appropriate. "He could have taken advantage of you, but he didn't." She said trying to console her cousin.
"Maybe he's just professional. The mission was just to make me fall for him and eventually marry him."
"Still, he didn't force you."
"Yeah." She softly agreed. He indeed didn't force her to marry him. It was her decision. "Meixiu, why did you marry Second Young Master Liu?" She only knew her cousin got married to that man from her uncle. The reason behind their marriage wasn't clear. When she said that he accepted her as his wife, it was as if she was begging to be part of the Liu Family.
"Thanks to you."
"Me? What's that got to do with me?" She perplexedly asked.
"Your fiance became mine when you eloped. Like you, I didn't want to be a pawn."
"My fiance? That Chen guy? The Third Young Master of Chen Family?"
"Yeah. That guy." She then told her the story from the start when she planned to use Liu Zijian with the help of Madam Liu until the time they got married.
As Han Meixiu animatedly unfolded the story, Han Mingxia couldn't help but smile.
"In short, you married yourself to Liu Zijian in exchange of protection against Han Family?"
"Something like that."
"But there's no more Han Family now. No one would retaliate against you. Are you going to divorce him?"
"No. There's still the Chen Family."
"What if Chen Dewei eventually got married. He will forget about what happened for sure. Then you won't be afraid anymore. Will you divorce your husband then?" Han Mingxia cautiously asked. She wanted to find out something from her cousin. She simply didn't believe that she agreed to the marriage for protection alone. Maybe at first, but based from her observation while Han Meixiu was telling her the story, she's already fallen for him. But this cousin of hers still seemed staying in the outer space and not realizing it.
There were times she thought of it, Liu Zijian finally leaving her. But when it was blatantly said to her, it gave her a restless feeling. Something inside her started to panic as a subtle pain was slowly invading her.
"We are already married, why do we have to divorce..." She wanted to hold on to the importance of marriage for the Liu Family though deep down she knew it's not a strong force that would tie Liu Zijian to her.
"Not all marriage last for an entire lifetime, Meixiu. Like what you've said, you married for the protection he could give you. What if one day you don't need it anymore, are you still willing to be married to him?"
"Why, not? There's no other person I can imagine myself being married to." She casually answered.
Han Mingxia forced herself not to smile. 'Look at her. That's an outright confession but she definitely didn't realize it.' She told herself.
"Then what if he wanted to be married to someone else? What will you do then?"
"Someone else?"
"Yes, another woman."
"That's impossible." She confidently said while shaking her head slightly.
"Are you really that assured? Second Young Master Liu might be notorious for making women cry without even doing anything but what if..there's a woman who would not care about it. What if this woman eventually stick to him and he's going to accept her eventually. You have to remember, in their line of business, there are lots of gorgeous women."
Han Meixiu remained quiet.
"Then one day, he would ask you to release him from your marriage as he already found someone else more suitable for him. Since you're already safe, he didn't really have to take care of you anymore, right? What will you do?"
She looked at her cousin. Her mind formed the situation she just said. "What should I do? I..should.. accept?" She whispered as her heart started to pound vigorously.
"Can you really accept it then totally disappear from his life? You will no longer see him. You will no longer feel his touch. You will no longer see his smile. You will no longer hear his voice subtly calling your name. You.." Han Mingxia couldn't continue further. She wasn't talking about Liu Zijian anymore to make Han Meixiu realize her feelings. She was singing the pain in her heart out.
Han Meixiu froze and shook her head slowly. She then abruptly stood up and ran out of the room.
