Felicia del Mundo

I can already feel my eyes drop as I arrive at our home. It was a long day. Boss had a lot of meetings that requires me to note it all down. As I unlock the door, I can only let out a sigh. Maybe it's not my tiredness at work that gets to me. Maybe it's because I miss her. When I read her entry on the day that we first met, I cannot believe that she wrote it down and still remembered.

She remembered. She cared. I thought all she cared for was her vanity. Still, I cannot help but be in reproach for what she is doing. I mean, seducing her sister's friend. That's just despicable by all standards. Then again, I cannot really say. She says she is only doing all these seductions to take down corrupt minds, but maybe, she's just doing it all because she feels alone.

I can still hear her playing her sweet melodies from the church. It's like her ghost is haunting me everywhere I go. But then, I realize. The music is real. I enter our house looking around for that music. As I draw closer inside, I feel it getting near me. Then, I went inside our living room. Of course, Carlos. He's the one playing the music. I see him brushing the ivories of the piano with his gentle hands.

He is the one that insisted to buy that piano. He even dragged me into piano shopping just to find the perfect upright piano for our home. Still, this is the first time I heard him play in months.

"Agnus Dei,

Qui tolis pecatta mundi,

Miserere nobis.

Agnus Dei,

Qui tolis pecatta mundi,

Dona nobis pacem."

Right after he plays, I see him cry. His tears fall like snow on a winter day. It falls amongst the ivories like snow joining the ground. All I could do is just take him into his embrace.

"I'm sorry, Felicia," he says as he lets out his tears.

"No," I say to console him. "It's ok. I miss her too. It's alright."

"When I said she means nothing to me, I lied. I cared for her. Yes, I did not think of her as a future wife, but she was just like a little sister to me. I mean, as the main minister for the piano, I cared for her along the way. I cared for her until she became confident in her own skill as a church pianist. You must think me a fraud, but – "

"Shush. It's ok. I understand. I can't forget her too. She was my friend too."

He simply feels my embrace around him. I can feel his tears fall into my arms that I cannot help but be in tears too. "It is too early for her to die. I mean, now that she's dead, I'll have to go back to church and fill in the shoes she left."

He manages to give a chuckle for that. I know deep inside that he is hurt and that he's just trying to cheer himself up. All I could do for him is just go along with his pretend happiness to comfort him. "Yeah, and did you see that time when a man crashed unto her and asked to take her on a date?"

"How do you know that?"

"I got her diary from the jewelry store. Apparently, if you return the necklace to them, the store returns a document that Christine entrusted to them. In this case, it is this diary."

I just managed to get a short chuckle from him. "It was a crazy day and a crazy time. Apparently, she was startled that day." He lets out another sigh. "I miss her, Felicia. There were so many things left unresolved."

"Me too, Carlos. I feel the same way."

In our sadness, all we could do is feel each other's loneliness in our embrace. He takes his lips unto mine. All I could feel is his passion and mine joining at this moment. I feel his touch into mine and mine into his.

"Ring! Ring!"

Just when it will just begin, a disturbance comes along. I could only shake my head with all of this. Who would even dare visit us at a time like this? Anyway, I just fixed my clothes and hair just to look appropriate for this inconsiderate visitor.

When I opened the door of our house, I saw no one around. There was not a single trace of a person being there. All that's left is a piece of paper on the ground. I picked up the paper with much reservations.

Written in red ink, there lies a message that I cannot believe.

"Her death was not an accident. It was murder."
