Souta stood in the ring casually, his next opponent using a staff causing him to draw his sword. He intended to let no staff user who became his opponent to live until he felt that small bit of consciousness leave him.
Souta waited until he was told to begin but found himself a bit impressed when the staff user had already covered a bit of the distance and began his attacks. Souta easily dodged before hopping bag and with a fling of his wrist pelted the man with shuriken in his throat bringing the match to an end. Souta recollected the projectiles and waited for his next opponent, a sword user who was fumbling with his sword already.
Taking mercy on him Souta used his own sword to shatter his opponents, soon the ground was impressed with how long he had stayed in the arena. Unfortunately any staff user that entered the ring would die before they even got the chance to surrender. Souta was efficient and callous when dealing with his opponents and had even started to display a few other weapons he was proficient in but kept many under wraps as a ninja still needed a bag of tricks.
Eventually the outer sect disciples had dropped out leaving only inner and core disciples, but even then the inner sect disciples fell to his strength. Staff users had died all the same until one particular youth carrying a jade staff stepped onto the ring.
"Tell me, I couldn't help but notice that your only victims were users of the staff. Do you perhaps have some kind of vendetta against the art" asked the youth.
Seeing his face Souta felt that annoying presence at the back of his head go berserk, apparently he had found the target after all this time.
"Well interesting story behind it, a few years ago some disciples had shown up to clear out some bandits in the mountain. One of those disciples happened to use a staff and had dealt me a critical blow luckily I was retrieved by one of those bandits. So I swore on that day that I would kill every staff user until I removed the head of that disciple." stated Souta giving the extremely short version causing the youth in front of him to narrow his eyes.
"I see, I happened to have recalled doing a bandit cleansing a few years ago and their was a foolish loudmouth kid who didn't know the distance between the heaven and the earth." stated the youth as if trying to confirm something.
"So kind of you to remember" said Souta charging forth with his sword but found himself blocked with the staff.
The youth had had quickly countered and tried to sweep Souta's feet but found it to be a difficult task, going for a jab he found it had missed and received a kick to his chin for his trouble followed by a knee to the groin.
"Shameless" shouted the youth furiously clutching his manhood
"Foolish" stated Souta aiming for another strike but his knee buckling due to a swift swing of the staff, improvising Souta had aimed for a strike to the diaphragm but instead received a strike to the head.
Growling Souta stood up seriously and sheathed his sword, holding up two fingers in front of his chest he ran towards the youth with the staff. The action getting confused looks from the watching disciples until it happened.
"Burn for your sins" muttered Souta just loud enough for the youth to hear before he found his strike dodged and heat consuming him from all angles.
To the outside crowd it looked as if the youth had been consumed by a fireball but it was clear to them the source was Souta who had the flames spewing from his mouth while still holding that silly hand sign.
The youth screamed miserably and swung his staff all around unable to see due to the heat affecting his eyes. Souta smiled cruelly drawing his sword again and swooping down for a fatal strike but noticed a bit of interference from the outside, he refused to let that happen swiftly cast a cloud of gunpowder onto the youth silencing him.
Standing to block his strike was a middle aged man holding a similar jade staff.
"You killed my only son" stated the man venomously
"Your son killed my entire family, consider it even" stated Souta feeling that presence at the back of his head fade completely, he was relieved that he was now one hundred percent in control of this body and its only inhabitant.
"You think your sniveling family is worth the life of my precious son, mongrel I will not be Shang Lian if I don't kill you this day" shouted the middle aged man who took a step too far.
"Then what is your name" said Souta as a small unnoticeable trio of pellets were smashed under the mans foot, the crowd watched as he went up in a burst of flames as well but the only damage he suffered was that of losing a leg.
His howls were agonizing as they sought to reach the heavens but the crowd was stunned by this event, they were curious as to how that bit of flame had engulfed Shang Lian out of nowhere.
"Lord Fire Demon" shouted a voice that Souta recognized to be Ginjuro before the outer sect disciples began cheering out as well.
Among the Martial Immortals there was confusion as well, they had been distracted by the cloud that had appeared from Souta's hand and had failed to see the other dropping those pellets. Then they heard the crowd begin cheering out and figured there was a bit more to the situation.
"Sect Master, what can you tell us about that lad there" asked the oldest of the trio
"I am ashamed to say nothing other than he is a lofty figure in the outer sect" admitted the sect master
"Interesting" said the middle aged immortal
No one had yet to react to the man bleeding out on the ground from his missing leg and when he had tried to reach for his Bottomless Bag he found his hand stomped under Souta's foot.
"Consider this compensation for the rest of my family" stated Souta taking the bag along with the staff.
"I concede" said Souta stepping off the stage and leaving the trial.
He had accomplished what he had set out for and it was time for him to begin planning his next move, but it would be foolish to try such a thing when he would be lacking critical cultivating resource like pills.
