บท 29: Shopping for our party

It's a bright day in New York, for the mother and daughter stepped out to shop for their welcoming party.

Giselle plans to do this alone without little Lia noticing, but the minute Giselle's poor acting exposed her to the little girl as she desperately clung on to her mother to take her out as well.

Lia cried from only being inside the home all the time. Giselle couldn't argue against that and agreed to take Lia along.

"What are we buying, mom?" Lia asked with sparkle eyes as it is her first time shopping out in a new city. She kept bouncing on and on in her pretty dress and curly ponytail.

Giselle revealed the list, and it included simple party decorations, ingredients for baking a cake, and for dinner.

"A Cake?" Lia's eyes grew wider in joy.

"Mama, let's make a chocolate cake," she appealed.

"I am making a chocolate cake. I know you love already."

Having heard it, Lia tightly squeezed her little arms around her mother and thanked her gleefully.

Giselle petted Lia and let her go, for they can leave for shopping.

Lia agreed happily and led the way outside.

"Now, young lady, come back here. You are to stay by my side strictly and never to leave all along. And one more condition I have, which is to not to bother me with buying toys and snacks when we are outside. If you can agree to it, then I will take you with me, else you are staying at home watching cartoons," Giselle spoke sternly.

Kids can be a handful for the parents while doing their shopping, and Lia being the active child, for she always is, can get excited from the new environment and ends up persisting her mother to buy her things. Giselle intended to complete the purchase swiftly and return home.

Listening to her mother's words, Lia instantly agrees, only seeking to see the outside and snubbing the words no matter what purpose they serve.

**

Not even a few distances passed, the promise went dissolving into the air.

Lia noticed a hotdog stall and started glancing at her mom with a 'puppy dog eyes.'

Giselle had to control her feelings to never fall for such tactics. She walked with Lia, holding her hand tightly. That way, she doesn't need to check for her every single time but also ignore those 'cute looks that can knock her out instantly.'

Soon, Giselle spotted a shop that sells decorative items. Holding onto Lia's hands, she stepped inside the shop to find most lavish and sparkling objects that can catch anyone's attention, be it, kids or adults.

Lia's eyes that were seeking her mother previously, begging to take notice for some hotdogs, now glistens at facing numerous pretty things scattered all around the room.

Giselle decided to get some balloons, scented candles, party hangers-on ceilings, and some fancy 'Welcome Home' designed hangers.

Although the little girl had enough spirit to run wild around the shop, Lia maintained her composure. Probably, it is because after getting ignored for the first time and reminded of the promise to her mother, Lia suppressed all the urge to play and prank. She remained quiet and stuck next to Giselle throughout the shopping.

Watching her behave without giving any trouble, the mother finally agrees to pay attention to her daughter. After all, this is their first shopping in the new city, at least that goes for Lia. Giselle looked over at her child and saw the girl's eyes constantly traversing around and having fun with only watching silently.

She sighed and granted Lia a wish to buy her anything she likes.

Lia's little hands that were holding onto her mother's dress gripped tighter in joy.

"You can only choose one, Lia," Giselle stated.

Lia thought carefully before finalizing.

She asked for a 'Jigsaw Puzzle.'

It wasn't so bad since Lia loves puzzle type games.

She got lucky because Giselle found a combo offer with three jigsaw puzzles at a reasonable rate.

Lia graciously accepted her gift with a return kiss to her mother. All while walking back home, Giselle noticed how Lia's smile never disappeared, and it is pure bliss to see a precious angel like her.

Returning home, Lia dashed to her room to safely keep her game in the drawer. She then ran back to the living room and happily followed her mother.

Being followed nonstop, Giselle couldn't focus on planning the dinner for the party. It wasn't annoying but superbly cute, for Lia appeared like a little duckling following its mother.

Giselle expired from ignoring the girl's attention and chose to face her.

"What is it, baby? Do you want something?" she asked, finally noticing Lia.

"Mom, I'm hungry. Can I have a snack?" Lia looked weary of all those walking.

Giselle gave her chocolate chip cookies to eat. After getting them, Lia went straight to her room and never disturbed her mother again. Giselle worked on the menu for the party.

It included Roasted Chicken, Greek salad, mash potatoes, fruit punch, wine, and some bread; she also added fried vegetable curry with rice. Giselle loves curry because her mother prepares it often. She even got mastered making curries while living alone. It will be a suitable choice for the menu since her parents will be present as well.

Finally, to end the party, Lia's favorite chocolate cake will be served to the guests.

Meanwhile at Giselle's parents home:

Melanie, Giselle's mother, was busy in the kitchen preparing lunch when Eric, Giselle's father, walked into the kitchen to have a conversation. Melanie felt the disturbance while cooking. When she couldn't handle it anymore, she raised her voice.

"What is it, honey? I can't move freely with you being in here just standing in the middle."

Eric looked anxious. Although, in the beginning, he felt hesitated, he continued to talk. Since it will be the first time seeing their granddaughter, Eric thought that they should buy Lia a gift. Melanie looked gloomy after hearing Eric talk.

Why didn't she think of that?

Melanie blamed herself. However, this is not the time to cry. She agreed to the idea and praised her husband for his concern.

The couple decided to go out shopping to buy their granddaughter, a lovely present.
