บท 15: Lightning Steps

Julius looked at the small book that has appeared in his hands. Even though it was pitch black inside the cave, he could still see pretty well. One of the perks of being a cultivator.

In the fine print, the title read Lightning Steps. Julius opens the book and on the first page, it introduces the skill and its background.

For a rank 1 skill, it has quite an impressive background. Lightning Steps was founded by a cultivator during a sudden inspiration when facing the Heavenly Tribulation. The skill was later perfected during the course of his long life. It was then passed down to later generations, but during a war, the skill was destroyed.

When Julius read through the pages, he was confused by the term Heavenly Tribulation which he's never heard of before.

'It's heavenly punishment for cultivators when they step into a higher realm. Because cultivation itself is defying the heavens, it is highly frowned upon by the heavens. Only by surviving the Heavenly Tribulation, will one be allowed to go higher.' Before Julius could ask the System already replied.

"Shit! How has nobody mention such an important piece of information." When Julius thought of his ignorance, he felt scared.

"So when do I face these tribulations?" Julius asked the system.

'500 system points.' The system instantly replied.

"Fuck! You cheap bastard. I knew you were acting weird when you gave me the information on the Heavenly Tribulation." Julius cursed.

Since it was no use haggling with the system, Julius decided to continue with the skill.

On the second page was the actual skill itself. The Lightning Steps is a skill that encompasses the nature of lightning. With a flash, you leave your enemy in the dust.

The skill was divided into three stages. The first stage is the initial stage where it allows the user to traverse 100 meters in a second. The second stage allows a person to traverse 1000 meters in a second. The third stage allows a person to transform into a lightning bolt and travel in the sky.

When Julius was done going through the skill, doubt started to rise in his mind. "System are you sure this is a rank 1 skill?"

'Yes, I'm not stupid. The reason why this skill doesn't have a higher rank because it doesn't incorporate any laws. It encompasses the nature of lightning but there is no understanding of the law of lightning when the cultivator created this skill.' The system replies.

"How much understanding of law do you have to have to make a rank 2 skill then," Julius asked.

'Rank 2 skills need to have at least 10% understanding. Each rank needs 10% more understanding of the law.' the system explains.

"Doesn't that mean that if I just comprehend 10% of the law of Sword. Then I would be able to upgrade Death Line to a rank 2 skill?" He got excited just thinking about making a rank 2 skill.

'Don't get ahead of yourself host, you have to comprehend the law first and it isn't as easy as it sounds.' The System pours a bucket of water on Julius.

"Why do you have to ruin my moments, system? You always do this to me." Julius said with some depression.

Julius looked at the instructions for the first stage of the Lightning Steps and followed the qi path it showed. After a few failed attempts he was finally able to get the correct path when a system notification appears.

New skill detected do you want to master it?

"Yes!" Julius excitedly said.

Just like previous times, an extremely large amount of information flowed into his brain. It took a few minutes for his brain to process the information. Then a flash of blinding light shot out of Julius's body illuminating the dark cave.

On the ground, tiny tendrils of lightning could be seen shooting out from Julius' body. 'Holy shit this feels nice!'

'I think it's time to get out of here and try this new skill out.' Just when Julius was about to leave the cave, the loud stomping sound appears from the cave entrance. The sound gradually increases until the ground started to shake.
