My conscious was drifting, it was hard to tell if I was blacking out or if it had been the room itself. I had forgotten how long I was here. The sound of the droplet was intensified as sight was not needed here. With the constant dripping of liquid onto my armor, it had ringed loudly. My eardrums were irritated. I didn't have it on me anymore as it was stripped off but it was somewhere in this dark room. My hands weren't chained and wherever I placed my hands, I could feel piles of bones and rotting corpse laying around.
The only source of light that came through was in shape of a square when the cellar door was being pushed open. I wasn't alone in here, another thing was in here. A beast. What separates me and it was an iron cell. It could move it's head in between the bars but it's body was too wide to get in. The beast was a countermeasure to the possibility that If someone had manage to get out of the cell, the creature would snatch them up and feast on them. Knowing that, they felt safe enough that the creature would finish me off so they threw my gear in here across the room. I could tell it was to mock me. I wouldn't reach it before that thing mauled me to death.
My body was struggling to keep up with the rigorous demands over the past few days and my eyelids started to glue shut together. It was strange, I felt more safe here then out there. I had saw the beast tearing apart my captivators while they had tried to put me in here. Just like the same way they put me down here, few of them would have to die attempting to hold the beast in place just to get me out if they really wanted to. I hoped they tried too, it would make me a little bit happier seeing more of them shredded to pieces. The entirety of my time here had been dedicated in reviewing what happened earlier, searching for any clue I could possibly had missed.
I had been watching Mark from the shadows. Eight figures had carefully entered in an attempt to eliminate the sound of their footsteps. Thanks to the concealment of the shadow, my presence was masked. Observing them, they all had circled around Mark.
Emerging from the shadow, I had quickly decapitated two of them with one swing. Their body was relaxed and using my entire body to generate the devastating force had made it easier for my longsword to lop off their heads in one go. Although the swing had left me exposed, the surprise attack had generated confusion amongst themselves. I had regained my balance while the enemy was still processing what had just happened, they weren't moving. Shoving my blade into the back of another figure was easy with the state of the enemy. The blade had entered near his lower spine and exited out in between his collar bone. I had to kick him off my blade to get it out. Yanking it out and kicking him, his body flew and when it landed, it had slid across the floor producing a blood streak.
Immediately engaging the nearest person, the three before were silent, but this one was different, he was a screamer. Repeatedly hacking in between his shoulder and neck, each time going deeper than before. Every time my blade pounded into him, his legs began giving out and he would fall further down with each chop until he was on his knees. The other four had manage to finally compose themselves, backing away from me and regroup. Blood gushing everywhere, it had painted the entire room. My cleaned armor was now once again dirty.
They hissed at me as if they were snakes. I knew these villagers weren't normal. When Mark wakes up, I'm going to tell him I told him so.
"Wake up boy!"
While still having a combat posture, I had violently shook his entire body him with my foot. Mark was fast asleep. There was no way he would be in a deep sleep like this, he had plenty of rest yesterday. These sly bastard did something, I just didn't know what exactly. If only Mark was awake, It would have made my job easier.
One of them had broken the ice and dashed towards me. With him making the move, I held my ground and positioned my sword with the tip forward, securing it in place bracing for impact. He had thrust himself into my blade, making my work easy for me. His lifeless body began to fall off my blade.
Before he could completely fall off, two figures seized the opportunity and charged. Grappling my sides, they had locked me in place. I had let go of my sword with my non dominant hand, my right hand. What met the man to my right was relentless pounding to his head with full force from my hand. I could hear his skull cracking and the grotesque feeling of the squishy mess. The last figure that had stayed back, made his move. He sprinted and used his entire body weight to push us all out the balcony, bringing everyone along with him.
The doors leading to the balcony snapped out of place and their weight against my poor footing had pushed me over the ledge. I had been unlucky to be the first one to hit the ground. The weight of four grown men were on top of me. The impact of the fall had knocked the air out of my lungs. It was heard to breathe. I had wrapped both of my arms around the two assholes still alive. To use me as a cushion, they weren't going to get off easily.
Using the immense pain, I felt. My muscles wanted to contract so I had obeyed their natural course. The two in the mercy of my hold were resisting but to no avail, I had crushed their windpipes. With all of them dead it gave me time to recover, I stumbled getting up but I did it. What awaited me to get up was an envelopment of villagers. From the crowd, a female emerged to the front.
I recognized her uncommon dark hair and red eyes.
"You really put up a fight. I was wondering where you were."
"What are you."
"We're just your typical villagers."
"Bullshit."
"You were really a pain in my neck you know. You didn't want to eat, you didn't want to sleep. You could've made it easy for me."
"How so."
She wouldn't be so dumb and give me information would she? I hated talking to my enemies. When they had always tried to talk to me about who, what, where, when, and why questions, I ignored them. There was always a slight chance that the enemy could always make a comeback or escape. Giving out information could turn the tide of everything. Surprisingly there were a lot of people who were willing to give answers, so confident in their ability to win.
"Since you're so curious and about to die anyways I'll entertain you. A hint. Being able to implant a part of me inside them and wipe the minds of people and replace them with what I want. Guess what it is. Warrior."
So she was the that type. It only made it easier for me. I wasn't very well versed in monsters but with what she said it made sense why this village wasn't involved in the war. Groups of soldiers would come here and be turned into her slaves as mindless beings bent at her every beck and call. As well as any traveling poor souls.
"An old hag disguised as a young woman."
"Noooope, you're wrong."
"What then?"
"Too bad! You only get one try, just like life!" She started laughing hysterically.
Her face was no longer beautiful, it had creased up. A huge grin, and her eyes shot open. With her hands she covered her face, but had left her fingers spread apart so the sight of her face could be seen. Shaking vigorously, exhilarated with her perverted thoughts.
"I'm going to enjoy ripping the skin off the boy. The shrieks of his cute little voice. Oh that makes me wet. The expression he has when I impale him with metal nails and when I remove his nails, or when I sew his eye shut only to rip them open! I can't wait~"
She stopped shaking, I had thought it was the furthest she could smile but I was wrong.
"I'll enjoy licking your tears as I have you watch me dismember your son."
"He's not my son. He's just some orphan kid who got attached to me… You even beat me to it. I was going to enjoy murdering him myself when we got deeper later into the forest as a treat to myself. Yesterday I almost got too excited and killed him too early."
A lie. A hostage would only drag me down.
"That's no fun, I wanted you to scream out and cry. Instead of turning you into my beloved pet, I think I have something more painful for you instead. A reward for making my life just a bit harder. You'll be left alone in a cell, rotting away, hopeless as no one will ever come down to help you. It's quite a painful death."
I placed my sword in front of me. I wouldn't win. Realistically speaking, one against a mob in open area was unreal. It was possible only with the help of magic or superior terrain. There would only be so much I could do before I was overrun by the overwhelming numbers. If they all closed the gap and jumped on me, I wouldn't have room to generate enough momentum to fight back.
"Take him to the cellar, and lock him away."
They slowly started moving towards me, they were definitely cocky. It was only a matter of time before I would be surrounded. Instead of being on the defense and wait for my doom, it's not my style to let them do whatever they wanted. They would have to give some lives to subdue me.
Charging towards the lady, Villagers behind her flowed in front of her and had surrounded her to block my path towards her. Hacking away, bodies were dropping to the floor each time my blade came down. It was getting hard to move forward, as the bodies on the floor were in the way and offered no good foot placement.
The sound of the rear was getting closer, I would be overran in a few seconds. On this near flat level surface, It appeared to be an endless swarm. I didn't want to spook myself, their numbers might have been lower than what it really is. I couldn't tell. After dropping twelve bodies, I had lost count. Their encirclement did not break and the opening I had created would shortly close.
The gap had closed and I couldn't swing my longsword anymore. They had restrained all of my limbs. My body had no longer connected to the ground, kicking and flailing around, they didn't let up. If they did lose grip, another one would quickly take their spot and replace him. Heading away, I could faintly hear that lady giving orders with my breathing overshadowing her voice.
"Clean up the area and put everything back together, tomorrow we'll enjoy the boy at night time."
The mindless souls opened a cellar door and as they did, one of them was immediately snatched in there. More blood flew as another one had been snatched by the neck. Every time it came for another one, you could more clearly than last time identify it's jaws was teeming with multiple of long thin durable strands of teeth that looked like bristles.
Quickly catching a glimpse of it from my peripheral vision. Multiple of villagers had used the same method of using numbers to overpower. Many were bleeding to their death but they had managed to contain this beast, pressing all their weight onto it. The beast had a form of a dog and it's face only with nostrils and it's mouth. Instead of two nostrils, it had an extra set of them where it's eyes should had been. The skin was pink as if it was sickly with slight patches of fur. It's body wasn't monstrously big but it was packed with muscles and it's head was smaller than its body. It's tongue was long and had split ends to lick as much as it could after snapping the bones.
Arriving into the cell, they slammed me onto the ground and quickly undid my armor while pinning me to the floor. More villagers flooded in to take the pieces away and tossed it. I could hear it clatter far away from the cellar door. Once my armor was fully stripped they threw me against the wall and had left the cell. Shutting the cell door, it was then locked with a padlock.
All leaving this cellar door, the last man holding the beast tried to escape but it had snatched him, it's jaws locked firmly into his neck. The cellar doors had banged shut and the distinct noise of metal sliding across. Yup, that was it. They officially locked me in. I didn't carry any dandy tools like thieves.
Hours had passed and I was in the predicament I was in now. I could hear the beast moving around, scuffling my armor. The armor screeched along the concrete ground. It was constantly moving. How I was going to get out really stressed me out. These poor suckers dead in the cell probably thought help was going to come for them when they were alive. I really do have shitty luck.
