There were some ugly faces among the audience at this announcement. This seller was really arrogant! They should be happy they were bidding on this at all, yet they despise the prices for being too low!
"Eh... this..." the auctioneer was stumped about what to do. This had never happened before! Not even when they first started the auction house! And this seller... is not someone he could afford to offend. The maidservant had told him it came from a guest on the fifth floor. Currently, there was no customer on the list of Fifth Tiered Customers. That meant this person was no ordinary customer and was granted the tier by the Pavilion Master, which meant it was irrevocable except by the Pavilion Master. His eyes flitted around trying to think of a solution and find someone to help him. Unfortunately, the Managers were not present so there was no one to help him, he could only try to ride through it himself.
"Ehem. Please dear customers, calm down." The auctioneer tried to diffuse the negative atmosphere in the hall. "This Samhain Poison is indeed rare one of a kind and very effective. Dear customers most certainly will not loose out on it." He tried to advertise again.
"It's not that we do not have the money but who knows if it really works? Like you said, it's one of a kind, we've never seen it before, even with Lotus Pavilion's reputation, the seller might not be as upright." A somewhat friendly and seductive voice sounded from the fourth floor, expressing everyone's concern.
"If that's the case for everyone's hesitation, there is no need to worry. We at Lotus Pavilion will never auction off something that has not been tested. This poison has also been appraised by our experts here at the auction hall so there is no need to worry." The auctioneer assured.
"Forgive this one's bluntness but there are only pill masters and physicians here, how much could they know about poisons? Poison and medicine are not the same." Another person on the third floor stood up and bowed behind the curtains as they spoke.
'Geez, so annoying. Just believe it already! This is from a seller of the fifth tier, you think we have enough balls to investigate the product of one of the Pavilion Master's close friends! Of course we didn't test it, wouldn't that basically be saying that we don't trust the eyes and judgement of the Pavilion Master, that we think their friend could shortchange us?!' The auctioneer thought as cold sweat ran down his back. 'Besides, you think we can openly tell you we have resident poison masters?! You think we're stupid, if you knew that, wouldn't you be more wary of us and even blacklist us?!'
Seeing the situation, Shen Tianyu called in the previous maidservant again and whispered in he ear. The maid bowed and left the room with a lowered head.
"Tian'er is really good at stirring up trouble." Rong Jian commented. He'd already guessed that she was the seller of this poison when she was frowning at the prices. She had been having so much fun and smiling all along, why else would she frown all of a sudden?
"Hmph. Troublesome people. Normally, they buy everything here at sky high prices but now that an unknown poison is being sold, they want to get it for cheap. What? They think it'll be easy to substitute it once it has been used? Even if you're trying to take advantage of me, make it less obvious okay?" Shen Tianyu said with a huff. "Besides, if it was that easy to take advantage of me, perhaps I wouldn't be alive right now." Her eyes narrowed and her face darkened at this line but quickly returned to normal. She turned to him with a smile on her face.
"Besides, did you forget Nangzhou?" She asked. She had caused quite a commotion in her hometown, perhaps even now, it has't subsided.
"Haha. Tian'er is right You are a bug troublemaker." Rong Jian merely followed up with a little laugh. They both turned their eyes back to the stage to see how things go.
A maidservant came up on stage again to whisper something in the auctioneer's ear. His expression finally eased a little in relief.
"The honored seller has made a reasonable compromise. The seller says 'Since they do not trust Lotus Pavilion's evaluation system, let them see for themselves through a live test. However, they will have to pay for the extra bottle of poison used.' Eh, Lotus Pavilion can hep pay off the extra bottle of poison however, the guests that have an opposition will still have to pay some amount of yuan." The auctioneer announced.
"Alright, we are not cheapskates so this one will agree." The seductive male voice sounded again.
"Since this one has spoken, naturally this one will also agree." The bowed figure in one of the third floor rooms voiced his agreement.
"Then this will be so. As we do not use humans in such experiments, we shall be testing it on a pig, f it is alright with everyone." The auctioneer said as he motioned to a servant standing behind the stage. After getting everyone's words of agreement, the servant left. The auctioneer proceeded to initiate some small talk with the audience while they wait and the seductive voice from the fourth floor cooperated well. The man on the third floor also spoke when it was appropriate to.
Shen Tianyu's lips lifted up in a slight smile seeing this scene.
"What's Tian'er smiling about? Do you know one of the men?" Rong Jian asked with interest.
"No." She answered. "But they are indeed interesting. Perhaps I'll make sure this is worth their while." She looked at the two curtained windows. 'Their moral integrity seems pretty good, at least what they've shown.' Since they were expressing interest in a poison, their moral integrity can't be all good, but humans weren't saints so she wouldn't count this as a strike against them. Kind and selfless people will live a tortured life and die in agony at the end.
When you wake up early to go to the first class only to find that class was cancelled since last night. This professor is such a pain. Say so earlier and I would still be in bed or on my way to school. 5am... I'm not a morning person...
