Rong Jian considered for a while before he agreed. Shen Tianyu internally gave a relieved sigh. She was interested in him, but immediately getting engaged like that makes her, someone from the 21st century Earth, uneasy. Especially since they only knew each other for a short amount of time so there are many things they don't know about each other that might cause problems in the future, such as her identity as the Master of Lavender Palace and Lotus Pavilion.
"But how does one 'date'?" He asked her.
She thought for a while. There really isn't a clear definition of "how"... "Uh... Let's see... The couple goes to places and have fun just like friends would, but as it involves romance, displays of affection are permitted?" She responded in a questioning tone. It's really hard explaining new concepts to ancient people...
Rong Jian fell into thought, holding his chin with a hand. "Is that so..."
Shen Tianyu revealed an exasperated smile. 'Should I start? But...' "Young Master Rong... I think it might be hard to go out..."
Rong Jian jolted out of his thoughts and looked at her questioningly. "Why not?"
"You may be fine with what happened to the Shen family, but there are those that aren't. Even if they don't say anything, there is a possibility there are some that would cause trouble, either obviously or subtly." 'Like people that purposely raise the price of an item or such.' She thought to herself.
"How about you just wear a mask too?"
Shen Tianyu hit her hand on her palm with an enlightened expression on her face. "Oh yeah! I could do that! ... Wait, no. Don't I need to go out to buy one?" She suddenly stopped.
"Can't you just ask a servant to go out and buy one for you?" Rong Jian questioned.
"But what if they buy an ugly one?" Shen Tianyu complained.
Rong Jian then smiled brilliantly at her. "Then how about I buy you one?"
"Really?!" Shen Tianyu leaned closer to him. He has always had good style, at least, whenever he came over. She could trust him to buy her a good mask.
"Of course."
"Then, I want a pretty fox mask!" Shen Tianyu requested of him. She thought foxes were cute and quite liked them.
"Alright." He answered with a nod and a smile his half-masked face.
She clapped her hands with a happy face. "Then tomorrow, let's go out! That's right, I promised I'd show you around right? But we've never managed to do that... So let's go around tomorrow!"
...
The next day, Rong Jian came over to Lavender Palace in the late morning. He was wearing a blue robe with golden symbols and black sleeves, giving off a noble air. Since she didn't need to work and had a date today, Shen Tianyu had slept through the night. She had told the servants to let Rong Jian in and had him wait as she got ready. Rong Jian was let into the Audience Hall and waited there for Shen Tianyu. Not long after he sat down and started sipping his tea, Shen Tianyu appeared.
She wore a soft blue robe that went down to her stomach, where it was tied with a white sash and on top of the sash was a blue and white ribbon, tied in a butterfly knot in the middle. The robe had a purple skirt which flowed like a quaint lake as she walked. The lapels of the robe was embroidered with white, silk leaves. Underneath the robe was a white, lace inner robe embroidered with patterns and flowers so it wasn't as revealing as one might think. There were no other embroidery on the outer robe itself, but coupled with Shen Tianyu's calm smile, it gave off an elegant air that one would not expect of such indecent dress.
Shen Tianyu waved her hands when she saw Rong Jian and quickly walked over. "You're here. Sorry for the wait."
"Not at all. It was worth it." He replied with a smile as he took out something from his sleeve and handed it to her.
It was a half-face fox mask. The indent of the ears were outlined with black ink down until what would be the head. The large eyes were also outlined in black ink, in a ending in a cat eye style. A little above the eye was a smooth diagonal line that ended in a swirl in the middle of the indentation that is supposed to be the ear of the fox mask. Below the eyes were two lines representing whiskers, one red on top of one black. Between the ears was an upside down, colored-in black triangle. Right where the tip of the triangle was, a vertical red eye was drawn with a black pupil. Right below it was a curved line that straightened out and went down until the tip was even with the bottom of the outlined eyes. At the bottom of the mask, right above the middle indent where the nose would be of the person wearing it, was a red fox nose. The sides of the mask was tied with blue tassels and a golden bell. Behind the face of the mask, were two simple strings used to tie the mask at the back.
Shen Tianyu recieved the mask with delight and out it on. Seeing her struggle with tying the strings on the back of her head, Ring Jian got up to help her. When she saw this, she let him take the strings.
"I want to cover it with my hair so tie it a bit tighter?" She requested. Rong Jian did as she asked and helped her cover the strings with her hair. He stayed behind her for a bit more, feeling her soft, raven black hair.
"Is it done?" She asked and only then did he snap out of it. He reluctantly let go of her hair and walked to her front.
"Yes." He replied as he acknowledged his handiwork. Though he only bought the mask, it really suited her.
"Then let's go!" She said as she held his hand and started dragging him outside.
Why are they so close already? Maybe it’s because they know each other for so a few months? IDK! I’m a relationship virgin! I don’t know how it goes, I’m sorry!
