บท 8: Foolishness

Even if Yue's cultivation was in the Spirit Stage he still wouldn't have to disobey that woman's orders, despite his supreme cultivation of the past he could not longer retain the arrogance of a powerhouse - to survive he must adapt, he had seen far too many Immortals fall due to their own arrogance.

Despite the saying that the higher the risks the higher the rewards Yue dared not tempt fate at this moment, it was already simply a miracle that he was still alive.

With a self depreciating smile Yue continued his journey to the camp, his lack of vision barely effecting him he only stumbled occasionally it really was too hard for someone who had gone their whole life with the gift of sight to suddenly be deprived of it.

Arriving at the city gates he could sense the cultivation of the guards, despite them not being too strong they were all in the Spirit Realm - it amazed him at how he was able to kill so many people earlier without being captured sooner.

However putting some thought into it, it was logical that the true experts would guard the gates rather than the inner city or maybe it was simply that no one dared to defy the City Lord due to her immense strength.

Nevertheless he didn't want to find out.

...

"Halt!" A guard approached him from the side after seeing that Yue had wanted to directly walk out of the city.

'Tch just another idiot who thinks they can enter and leave at will, who knows what they could be carrying.' Muttering spread through the crowd of people, the words may have seemed pretentious and greedy yet they were intended to be neither.

A few years ago before Lady Elizabeth was the City Lord someone had attempted to smuggle out a 6th Grade Refined Weapon that the previous City Lord had treasured dearly, back then the gates allowed anyone to enter and exit at will. If it hadn't been for Lady Elizabeth's delegation arriving the same day the thief may have left the city with none the wiser about his destination.

After discovering the item on the thief he was confronted and cornered, Elizabeth had intended to give the sword back to its owner however the previous City Lord had immediately gifted it to her as a sign of good faith and due to his own lack of ability to wield it - the sword had now become the symbol of the city rather than a weapon that was admired but never used, such a sword could no longer be considered a sword but an ornament.

"This one greets Sir, may I ask why I was stopped?" Yue wasn't stupid, he knew why he was stopped however he wanted to see to what lengths the guards would go to should he ever need to escape from this place.

"Do you think Hong City is your playground kid? To leave one has to have a valid reason and a full body check performed - yet you simply wanted to walk out? Are you courting death?" The guards voice was filled with murderous rage, he could see that Yue was a mere child at best - 16 at most. Yet the killing intent did not quell, instead applying more pressure.

"Thank you for the warning Sir, I was leaving towards the Army Encampment on orders of the City Lord. I am sorry if I have disturbed the order of the city." With this Yue bowed towards the guards without a hint of sincerity, this wasn't lost on the guards.

"You? A kid? You think that the City Lord would talk to any random passerby and order them to report for duty? Do you think a lie like that could fool us, are we simply idiots to you?!" Before the guard was simply exerting his intent to force the other party into stopping however now that this kid had dared talk to him like a fool, even lying to his face, he couldn't suppress the rage that was building in his heart.

'What an idiot, letting his emotions control him so easily - do all cultivators of this realm possess a similar lack of control?' Yue found it laughable, a cultivator needed to be able to suppress the demons within their heart and control their emotions flawlessly however instead he had come across more than a few cultivators who couldn't control their own emotions. What did this mean? To Yue it meant that the cultivation techniques of this world were lacking severely, however it also meant that this Dimension should not yet have a Ruler - a ruler would've perfected the techniques used by everyone to gain Karma.

However it was too soon to rush to conclusions, it was likely that this dimension did not have a Ruler however it was possible that the Ruler was either very recently appointed by the Heavens or was simply a selfish human, too focused on himself to help the Dimension they were raised in of course this just made Yue's task of climbing to the top much easier in retrospect.

Yue simply smiled back at the man as if he was a fool, to a mind akin to Yue's which had experienced the lifetimes of many Immortals enraging a cultivators who's technique did not suppress the demons in his heart was easier than enraging a mortal that had never cultivated a day in his life.

The man stared back at Yue coldly, he could sense the rage building up in his heart however he couldn't suppress it however neither did he want to he could tell that the rage was making him stronger it was reinforcing his cultivation ever so slightly - the man was joyous inside despite his rage, this was the first time in a century that his cultivation had moved even a single step it was unfortunate that he did not have the time to discover what was causing this and had to deal with the brat in front of him.

"Get in line brat, wait your turn and if you clear the inspections you can go." The cold glare from the guard continued, he was impatient to get back to his post so he could meditate, furthering his cultivation - just a little more and he would achieve Spirit Realm Stage 2 and be allowed to enter the Inner City Guards!

Simply glancing back at him Yue began to walk again, the pressure from the guards killing intent seemingly not effecting him - despite his attitude of fearing death when facing Lady Elizabeth this guard not even worth the mention, as a cultivator Yue feared nothing let alone the little killing intent this puny guard was showing off.

However he understood the meaning of fear and respect and also his pride. He was not ashamed to be scared of death, or to retreat at the sight of danger - neither was he afraid to test the limits which he could go to with these guards whilst in possession of the City Lord Jade token because he was certain he could get out of any trouble, this slight trouble was worth it for the experiment he was currently performing.

"No." With those simple words the guard could no longer hold back, the words that Yue had said may have seemed simple - they were meaningless like the ramblings of a mortal and yet it had managed to make a cultivator be submerged in his heart demons, it was obvious to him that the cultivator was greedy for advancement for the next level and enraged when Yue was indirectly stopping him with these facts it was simple enough to goad him to death...

"BANG!" The cultivators head exploded, all of which was within Yue's expectations - don't look down on the fact that it seemed so easy to kill this cultivator, it was a combination of many factors that made this possible specifically exploiting the mans desire. As for the cultivation increase he had previously felt, it was simply an illusion created by his mind to submerge him in the darkness of his own heart.

[Asura Points: +10]

'So Mortals equate to 1 point, Mortal Cultivator Stage 1 is also 1 point, there are 9 stages in a level it seems logical that since I was awarded 10 points the man was in the 1st Stage of the Spirit Realm whilst Mortal Cultivators award at most 9 points.' Knowing this information would come in handy later when prioritizing his future targets.

The surrounding people were speechless, they had thought that this would be a simple exchange,(Author: I had thought this would be a simple scene in the chapter, life don't work that way does it? Sorry..) the guard would either imprison the trouble maker, kill him or he would get in line.

Instantly the other guards made a move, the death of one of their own although shocking was not enough to forget their duty. "Stop." The simple word rang out through the cloud of blood.

The reflection of a Jade token against the sun blinded the eyes of many onlookers, the token was simply too flawless, the words "City Lord" were clearly inscribed on it. Shocking the crowd immensely.

The sudden appearance of the City Lord token had caused a wave of muttering to go through the crowd, they knew now that the Jade Token had been revealed this young man would walk out harm free.

In the instant that they saw the words on the Jade token all guards had stopped their movements, kneeling on the floor they prostrated themselves respectfully, they felt nothing but extreme respect towards the City Lord, anyone who could carry their taken was also someone they could not deal with - their only way out was to hope the young man would forget their previous intentions.

"Good.. Very good." They didn't understand the meaning behind Yue's words but they didn't stop him when he began to walk out of the gates, they still didn't move when he was already a great distance from the entrance - it was only when someone tried to use the disturbance to sneak through that they made a move and killed the man on the spot.

From a vantage point a figure sat staring at the scene, her blue eyes shone with interest - it seemed that this little Beast of hers would not disappoint. However thinking of one thing she frowned, this boy had potential however even now she couldn't judge his true intentions, he was an enigma, a mystery.

"My little beast, friend or foe? I do wonder how you'll turn out." She toyed with her hair as she spoke then as if she had never frowned at all she smiled cheerfully - she had finally found the last piece necessary for her to take action, war was coming.
