บท 63: Future Hero?

Jason looked at the sleeping Ren dumbfounded. He simply said hell no and went back to sleeping, he didn't even bother to punish Jason for attacking him. Lin and Michael were relieved that nothing bad happened, but before they could approach Jason to scold him. Jason once again slashed at Ren, and once again the attack was stopped by Ren's fingernail.

"What the hell are you doing?! Not only did you attack me once, you actually dare to attack me twice. Did you think I'm an easy target or something since I didn't beat you up?" Ren said completely annoyed by Jason who kept on disturbing his sleep.

"I wont stop attacking you until you agree to teach me." Jason said so with no fear at Ren's surging killing intent.

"What the hell? You're actually threatening me? Still your either recklessly brave, or simply an idiot to withstand my killing intent." Ren was now fully awake, because of the idiotic things Jason was saying. He then glared at Jason and now Ren did not release just a tiny bit of his killing intent but the whole thing.

Jason who was standing bravely in front of Ren, felt his legs trembling, he felt like Ren was holding his life in his very hands and was slowly crushing it. Lin wasn't able to withstand the killing intent and fainted; even though it was not directed at him, he could still feel its enormous pressure.

Michael was visibly trembling and wanted nothing more to do but escape, but he couldn't move, cause his body was frozen in fear. The horses outside were going crazy in fear, Brian and the knight leader tried their best to calm the horses down. The two knights riding war horses weren't having a good time either. Their horses that were literally trained for war were also panicking because of Ren's killing intent.

"What makes you think I wont just kill you, if you don't stop attacking me?" Ren's asked Jason in a cold stone voice.

Jason even as his body trembled in fear, did not hesitate to answer. "I know you wont kill me, because if you wanted to kill me you could have done it already, instead your just sitting their talking to me. Also it doesn't matter if you kill me now, if I wont be able to learn swordsmanship from you at this very moment then... Then my life would at most be average, at least if you killed me, my name would be told in your legend. The foolish one who asked Ren to teach him the way of the sword. It doesn't matter if that's how the future people will think of me, but at least my name will not be forgotten."

Ren sighed as he stopped emitting killing intent. "You really wont stop bothering me? Fine then get out of the carriage."

Ren went out of the carriage and was followed by Jason and Michael. Lin was left inside because he was unconscious.

Brian and the knights were simply there to spectate. Ren with a look of indifference stood before Jason. "I will teach you the way of the sword, but under one condition. You need to be able to hit me once. If your unable to hit me even once, that would mean you're not worth me teaching you, so you better give up. Don't worry I will give you a handicap, I wont move even a step away from my spot, not only that, I will only use one finger to block, and I wont attack you. So are you okay with these conditions?"

When everyone heard Ren's conditions, they simply thought it would be impossible for Jason, even with the ridiculous handicap. Ren was a person able to catch arrows from a crossbow, with his bare hands. The skill difference was too large, even if the whole group attacked Ren they believed that they wouldn't even be able to graze him.

Jason gritted his teeth, determination surging forth within him. "I accept your conditions."

Ren then signaled Jason to attack.

Jason shouted to motivate himself and charged at Ren. Seeing the Jason charge forward with such vigor, Ren didn't even bother to put up a stance. Jason slashed sideward, Ren blocked using the fingernail of his index finger. Jason then tried to do a stab, his movements were clumsy and the stab itself had no power to speak of. Ren simply stood in a sideways position from his initial frontal position allowing the sword to pass through.

Jason kept on attacking, as Jason attacked Ren noticed that his clumsy way of fighting was actually getting sharper, and more concise. Jason was feeling ecstatic, because every time he attacked Ren and failed to hit, he somehow understood the mistakes of his movement and corrected them. He couldn't truly understand it, he wasn't getting any faster but his moves felt like they were faster than before.

The reason for this was because the moves were now even more concise. At the beginning Jason would make large swinging motions like any beginner would, but as the fight progressed, his attacking swing, were swung in a smaller arc. It was gradually getting smaller and smaller, making his attack speed look like it was getting faster.

Ren was surprised at the speed of Jason's improvement. 'Does this guy have a system as well?' Ren thought for a moment, before dismissing the idea.

Though Jason was improving in a miraculous rate, he still couldn't hit Ren, and as the fight went on his movement were slowing down. Even if he was a genius of the sword, his body was still an untrained one. So after a few more swings Jason was already panting.

"Are you done?"

"No not yet!" Jason shouted and charged, with one last burst of everything his got. The sudden burst of energy from the exhausted Jason, surprised Ren.

Ren blocked the incoming attack but unlike before Jason's attack actually sliced through Ren's fingernail. Ren was then forced to use his thumb, with his thumb and index finger Ren stopped the blade from reaching him by pinching the blade.

Seeing this Jason smiled, "it's my win right?" He was able to say those lines before falling unconscious. Ren then caught the unconscious Jason and looked at him curiously. 'Doesn't this guy have most of the qualities of a hero? He was like those mainstream heroes from my former world.'

Ren looked at the unconscious Jason who had a foolish grin plastered on his face, even after fainting.
