The two stood frozen in the middle of the wide land after realizing they were lost. They weren't able to recall the hut's location.
Riley's legs shivered with the thought of being the zombies's feast for the night. He then started to spit out regrets for forgetting to put up a trace of dirt behind them as they took their long walk. Now if they wanted to search for the hut by simply rushing in the forest would leave them to a bigger danger. It would take a whole day to find it, and by that time the monsters would already be surrounding them with drools on their mouth.
Rick was also tense at the time, but after seeing his almost died out of stupidity friend made him toss away all his cowardliness to help his helpless friend. 'Whenever there is a dangerous situation, it is always best to stay calm and think of a solution rather than panicking like a retard'. That was what the light that came shining a way for him in his dark told him before.
After taking a deep breath, he threw all of his dread thoughts away. His heartbeat rate started to slowly reduce, showing that he's being calm with the situation. He sat down patiently while his friend had more energy to waste on running around in circles. He closed his eyes and started thinking in his black vision. After brainstorming for a couple of minutes, his eyes widened in amazement as a light bulb on top of his head shined bright.
Rick pushed the earth with his feet and stopped his running friend from completing another lap. Even after being interrupted by him, Riley was still breathing heavily; not because he was exhausted after doing those laps but he was freaking out. So, Rick did what most people would do to get their friend back to earth. He forcefully grabbed the boy's cheeks, pinched it as hard as he can and pulled it as long as it can be. "Derp! Stay with me! I got a plan."
The boy shoved Rick away with force as he cries in pain. "Hey! What are you doing?" he shrieked.
"I said stay calm. I have a plan," replied Rick.
While rubbing his aching red cheeks, Riley asked, "What is it? Tell me."
He snorted with pride. "Hehehe. Even though I forgot to leave a trace when we were walking. I, Rick will get us out of this mess and find ourselves the hut that we left."
"And what's the plan?" Riley growled in anger. He's still mad about Rick for pinching his cheeks.
"Okay okay, here's the plan. We'll make a compass!"
After all this time, his plan was to make a compass. Riley stood quiet while struggling to give an amazed expression. But it became more awkward with the silence that came afterwards. Add in the cricket sound and there you have it, that awkward moment when you thought you made something amazing and everyone just smiles at you while you were standing there regretting everything that you just did.
"Wow, that's awesome," Riley tries to to show amazement. "But how do we make a compass?" he changed the topic.
"We'll need four iron ingots and a redstone dust." he answered while still regretting looking like a genius earlier.
Riley doesn't know what's a redstone and he probably doesn't know the use of it. "Redstone what? Never mind that. I think we should hurry before the sun goes down," suggested Riley as he shows Rick the sun with his index finger.
"Ah, of course."
The two rushed to the nearest cave they saw. They went down into the cave in search for only the materials they need. They've mined eight blocks of stones to make the furnace to smelt the iron they found. Of course they've got themselves some coals while they were at it. Now the only thing left to do is to find a piece of redstone dust and they are all set to get back to their hut.
"Hey Riley! You wait here. I'll go get us some redstone dusts," he commanded.
"But I can help."
"No! Just stay here. I'll be back in a jiffy."
Rick didn't want his friend to get into danger again. The lower level you go, the more dangerous it gets. So, he decided to let Riley sit at the bench for now. They're in a sticky situation and it was best to let the pros handle it.
After telling him to stay, Rick disappeared from his sight. Riley sat there with an upside down smile while watching the iron ores being smelted. A sigh was let out from the disappointed boy.
"Guess I'm no use to people here either."
...
Rick jumped down from block to block, moving into the lower level. After a few jumps following a few twists and turns, he finally got down to a lava pit which is also a dead end for his adventure. He searched around and to his luck he found the ore that he have been finding for. He thought a while ago that he wouldn't get a piece of redstone dust after getting to the dead end, but luck was with him.
"At last!"
His walks were light as he approaches the redstone ore. He took out his iron pickaxe and mined the ore. Then came out redstone dusts before his eyes. He leaned down to collect them and turned around to get back to his friend.
While he was walking, he accidentally bumped into a zombie.
"Oof! Ugh, sorry for bumping to ya. Oh, here's your spade, fine sir," he apologized the zombie he had ran into. The zombie looked at him walking by with questions. Surprised by his reaction, the zombie followed him from behind.
He continued walking leisurely with the zombie following him from behind. He did not notice his offbeat action towards the zombie earlier. By time the zombies started to get larger in number. In addition to the atmosphere, some spiders started appearing as well. He walked without worries as he still hadn't noticed the marching band tiptoeing behind him.
Rick finally got back to Riley after a while. Riley didn't noticed him and was jumped when Rick surprised him from behind. He was scared to death before realizing it was only Rick playing a prank on him. But after turning his back to look at Rick, his head sweated and turned blue. He wanted to tell Rick what he was seeing but his words were stuck at his throat and he couldn't let it out. Rick asked him if he was okay as he took the iron ingots from Riley's shivering hands. But still he didn't have the power to do so.
"Dude, just tell what's wrong. If you hungry don't sweat it, we got plenty, right?" Rick comforted as he makes a compass at the crafting table, STILL NOT NOTICING THE MONSTERS IN FRONT OF HIM. The crafting table was at his back, so Rick had to turn around to get to it.
"Put the redstone dust in the middle and surround it with iron ingots, and walla! A compass that'll show us the way," he claimed proudly as the monsters clapped.
The sound of the clapping audience made him blush. He bowed to the monsters as a gratitude for the monsters approval of his work, "Thank you, thank you." But then he realized something off. He stood back up properly and widened his eyes to take a better look, reassuring what he just saw. After realizing what was in front of him, he felt a cold breeze passing through his skin. He didn't gave an expression to the monsters whatsoever. The monsters continued to watch him without showing any sign of harm.
"Hey Riley! Do you ever get that feeling of wanting to leave everything behind and run as fast as you can?"
"Um..."
"We'll I do feel like it now so how about we... RUN FOR OUR LIVES!"
