In the conference hall, the King was in a meeting with several ministers. There hasn't been news of the northern border for several weeks now and plans for the coming seasons needed to be fleshed out. 

"If the border has held, then any excess of grain must be reserved for the south. The river channels are rising, Your Majesty. Just one more storm will cause unspeakable damage to the lower regions." The one to speak was Minister Spade, a scholarly man who had served since the previous dynasty.

"Bah. You said this last month and the heavy rain did nothing but fertilize the land. The reports stated that the fields have already sprouted and the harvest will be good," Oldry said. The Duke's eyes squinted with an unfocused glare. He held no contempt unto the other man, but old age has made sight more and more difficult.
