บท 14: Go on a Zombie Hunt

Jiang Zhi looked at his diminishing points and let out a heavy sigh. Although he knew this was an exchange for what he bought in the shop, Jiang Zhi felt uneasy seeing his coin balance decrease. But they had made the decision. There was no room for regrets. He could still earn more points.

"For a bright future, I have to do it!" he exclaimed, clenching his fist and raising it to the sky with enthusiasm.

"Working hard to build a house with my own hands!" Jiang Zhi shouted again, still in the same motion.

His conviction was now so strong, as if nothing in the world could extinguish his burning spirit. He took the axe he had bought earlier and swung it at a large tree to give it a try.

"This axe is pretty good. Sharp and light," he said, satisfied.

Without further delay, Jiang Zhi immediately began chopping down trees in the forest.

An hour passed, and several trees had already fallen under Jiang Zhi's axe. Sweat was pouring profusely from his pores.

"Damn, no matter how comfortable it is to use, it still drains energy. Hey, Paper Roll, can't you give me something to lighten my workload?" Jiang Zhi asked Paper Roll.

"Well, that's already your burden. If you want something more efficient, use more points," Paper Roll casually replied.

"Well, that's something I don't have!" Jiang Zhi grumbled.

Then Jiang Zhi wiped his sweat and took a quick break. To quench his thirst, he fetched water from the well to drink. He also splashed some on his face and head to alleviate the heat he felt.

"This is more exhausting than killing zombies," he muttered.

"By the way, do you sell medicine or something?" Jiang Zhi asked Paper Roll.

"No, there are many useful things in this space, no need to sell medicine or anything."

"Is there a way to regenerate a lost hand?" Jiang Zhi thought if there was a tool he could use to help Zhang Rui regain his hand.

"No, but the power of healing should be able to reconnect body parts if it reaches a certain level."

Jiang Zhi simply nodded, took his axe again, and started working. He swung his axe at the remaining sturdy trees in the forest. The day was not as scorching as before, and the evening breeze brought a special strength to the young man. He now performed his task with a smile. A sense of happiness seemed to envelop him, a happiness that came from an unknown source.

"By the way, is there a possibility of being reborn or transferred to this world?" Jiang Zhi asked Paper Roll, seeking answers.

"As a space guide, I don't know much about that. However, it's unlikely because miracles always exist in this world. Just like the existence of the apocalypse and the resurrection of zombies, no one really believed in it before."

"Well, you're right," Jiang Zhi acknowledged. He didn't expect the robot in front of him to be so wise in its words. He never imagined that he would experience life in a world that was near its end. The madness in this world was something he had never imagined before.

Jiang Zhi continued his work, chopping down tree after tree.

Two hours passed, and many trees had fallen under Jiang Zhi's axe. He then sat down for a moment, gazing at the sky. After a while, he returned to the headquarters to rest in his room.

"You're back?" Shen Yize asked, seeing Jiang Zhi return.

"Yize! You startled me! What's up?"

"Sorry, sorry. I just wanted to invite you for dinner. Come on, Zhang Rui is waiting."

"Of course, I agree," Jiang Zhi replied happily, although still enveloped in surprise.

During those two days, Jiang Zhi placed many crystal cores in the space. Thanks to the houses he had successfully built, his personal space was now more organized and could accommodate more crystal cores.

He would enter the space to continue building houses and return after a few hours. He did this consistently and with discipline.

"I will start preparing the land for planting fruits," he said.

"Just take it easy. We still have plenty of dried fruits and vegetables. They may not be as tasty as fresh ones, but they'll do for now," Shen Yize reassured Jiang Zhi. He was concerned that Jiang Zhi would overwork himself, which could affect his health.

"Don't worry, I have plenty of tools to make the work easier," Jiang Zhi assured, smiling confidently.

"Dude, you need to be more frugal. Save up money for automation when we reach level 3," Zhang Rui, who was previously in the control room, came out and joined them in the living room.

"Yo, want to hear something useful that I brought?" he said confidently.

"Well, we'll find out when we enter the monitoring room," Jiang Zhi responded.

"Huh?" Shen Yize was surprised, not knowing what was going on.

"You're really annoying. The information is that the drizzle has stopped. The sun hasn't fully risen, but it's bright enough to distinguish between day and night."

"Great, it's time to prepare for hunting zombies in a few days," Shen Yize appeared excited.

But Zhang Rui wasn't so convinced. "Seriously? Are we really going to hunt zombies?"

"Of course," Shen Yize answered confidently.

"But where are we going?" Jiang Zhi inquired. He didn't want to go hunting without a clear direction and purpose. Everything had to be well-prepared before the hunt, he thought.

In response to Jiang Zhi's question, Shen Yize took out a map and spread it on the table.

"Alright, guys, our first destination is this small town. There are many supermarkets with non-perishable food there, and even a shopping center where we can replenish our clothing supplies," he explained, nodding his head and raising his eyebrows, as if expecting applause for his intelligence.

"Oh, and besides that, we should collect silver, gold, and crystals. Who knows if they'll be useful for Jiang Zhi's space mission," Shen Yize continued.

"Understood, no problem," Jiang Zhi agreed.

"Hey, also make sure to remember my prosthetic hand!" Zhang Rui requested.

"And don't forget, we need to gather plenty of medicine, too."

They made a lot of plans and discussed them thoroughly. They meticulously prepared every detail of their movements. Because this hunting mission was no joke or mere game. The level of danger was also very high, and anything could happen. So, as long as they could prepare well-thought-out plans, they had to do it.

"Hey, why don't we just go directly to the big city? There must be more supplies there, right?" Zhang Rui suggested to his two friends.

"Yes, but there are also many zombies there. We cannot handle the number of zombies there. Besides, we are a small group and not that strong," Shen Yize openly disagreed with Zhang Rui's suggestion.

"I don't want to face death head-on," he added firmly.

"Understood." Zhang Rui could only agree with Shen Yize's response.

"It's better to start by raiding the smaller towns around first and work our way towards the big city when we're more prepared," Shen Yize suggested again. Out of the three of them, Shen Yize was the most brilliant in assessing the situation and devising plans. His two friends often approved most of his plans.

"Alright, let's start preparing. What should we bring?" Jiang Zhi asked.

"Do you have a refrigerator or something to store food at your place?"

"No, but I can get one. I've built a cabin that can be used as a mini warehouse to store some supply."

"Great. Go get it, and we'll store our equipment there." Shen Yize was very satisfied with Jiang Zhi's work.

"I will do that."

Jiang Zhi entered the room and carried out the tasks assigned by Shen Yize. He started opening his storage space and took out the items requested by Shen Yize. Meanwhile, Shen Yize called Zhang Rui to help organize the items.

"Hey, should we also bring a stove into Jiang Zhi's room?" Zhang Rui complained to Shen Yize.

But Shen Yize didn't pay much attention and just casually replied, "Hmm, why not?"

"What about a juicer? We need that for fresh fruit juice! Oh, and a toaster too! We could..."

"Come on, we're not on vacation here. We need to bring essential items like gas, weapons, and clothing. There are zombies everywhere, and everything smells awful. Who cares about fancy food?" Shen Yize explained, starting to get annoyed.

"Yes, you're right!" Zhang Rui nodded.

After they completed the preparations, they left their headquarters. They could easily carry their supplies, thanks to Jiang Zhi's storage space. Among many roads, they chose to enter the quieter ones. Jiang Zhi and Shen Yize sat in the front, while Zhang Rui was in the back with various tools. Eerie and terrifying streets greeted them as they entered the quieter ones. The three of them remained vigilant. Until they arrived in front of a small shopping center. Without much thought, and as previously discussed, they got out of the car with all their gear.

"It's been so long since I left the base. It feels really strange, doesn't it?" Jiang Zhi expressed his surprise.

"Yes, indeed. We also need to be cautious. Who knows if there are zombies lurking around," Shen Yize reminded, scanning in all directions.

A few moments later, they spotted several zombies in the distance. They seemed to be gathered in quite a number.

"Bro, there's a group of zombies over there. Should we take care of them before moving on?" Jiang Zhi asked his two friends.

"No, bro, no need. We can't handle that many. Besides, if there's a crowd like that, there must be something important there," Shen Yize intervened.

"Maybe other survivors?" Zhang Rui chimed in, slightly nervous.

"Yeah, maybe. It's been a month since everything happened. I'm sure people have gathered to survive," Shen Yize explained.

"If they are people, we should offer help, shouldn't we?" Jiang Zhi requested, feeling pity if Shen Yize's assumption was true.

But Shen Yize just looked at Jiang Zhi and didn't answer. It conflicted his mind and heart. It would be troublesome to help those people. However, conscience couldn't stay silent. After a moment of contemplating, Shen Yize made a decision.

"Let's just take a look first, Jiang Zhi."

"What's wrong? If you're worried about something, just say it."

"No, forget it. I'm just thinking that saving them might not be the smartest decision. Having compassion is good, but if it makes us weak, it's better to ignore it. And let's be honest, the chances of them not being infected by the zombie virus are quite low even if we save them. After all, this is the apocalypse. Death is no longer a big deal," Shen Yize explained at length, speculating and analyzing all the possibilities.

"You're right," Jiang Zhi said, looking sharply at Shen Yize.

But suddenly, Zhang Rui panicked and pushed Jiang Zhi and Shen Yize.

"Watch out! Someone's throwing something at us!"
