Here you are saying Austin has influenced but it’s limited compared to David’s, meaning there is no balance when it’s come to influence because David still has influence over him. However in the chapter you’re saying another thing.

But this contradicts what you said in the chapter.

I’m talking generally, not him being in his pastor duties because before being a pastor he’s a man first. And also I’m not saying he should overlook his family while donating everything he has to other people because i believe no matter what your family comes first, but what I’m saying is sometimes there’s nothing harm in being too good or too kind because of the benefits for the future (both in this world and the hereafter). You can think of it this way: the more you give to someone in need (poor, orphan…) the more you receive from God and i believe that’s the same in Christianity and you don’t need to believe in a religion to now that much. Additionally, what triggered me was the word you used to discribe this kind of people. And also it not like he didn’t fulfill his obligations as a husband and father, at least his family has a roof above them and eat to their full. That’s what contentment is about, whatever God gives you be happy with it and share to those in need so that you may get more from God. I hope I answered your questions.
