What I understand this far that, Killorn think Ophelia is too much weak and naive (which is true till now), and can't handle stress (I think this is ture too). So he wants to shield her from everything by not telling her anything and want her to trust him blindly. But she will trust the whole world blindly, specially the sweet talker manipulative Everest anf Emily, except her own husband. She finds fault in everything he does, but too naive to understand how the other people are using her or being friendly with her with some nasty motives. Everest is just a cunning sweet talker snake, lusting after her, want to bed her, also he want her for her lineage, obsessed with her, and perhaps he will protect her and shower her with passion and attention if he get the chance to do so because that's what she craves...
