It differs when you are addressing your relatives. Like we do not address Dad as Sir. In this particular context, let’s say you(Asa_Trey) are boss. So the assistant or whatever, instead of addressing “Chief Asa_Trey, we are ready” he addressed “Chief, we are ready sir”. So he is respecting chief position. Yeah it is not correct but more of native thing and not everyone uses chief and sir in one sentence. Some folks use and most don’t. It is kinda used in flexible way.
