For trade offs, you could have it be extra mental energy cost to bring the physique to the same grade and either a small divine energy cost or additional mental energy cost to merge/evolve the physique. Thereafter, any increase to physique from either original types would only have a slight additional mental energy cost increase to properly bring his own to the same tier. This is just an idea if you want to allow for merge/evolve concept while having some room for possible drawbacks

Out of curiosity what would an evolvable system look like? For example starting with a white/yellow system but additional divine energy could be added to implement more features until the system evolves to be the equivalent of the next grade. Would this be possible? I could see benefits since he could increase the energy efficiency for cases like the super regeneration ability, which has a large mental energy efficiency decrease due to using a low tier system.
