I think they just assume because they are less powerful, that the other is just "talented." Let's say I work hard every day all day and then comes along, someone who crushes what I can do with what looks like ease... I might claim its talent out of ignorance. when in reality, they just worked harder. no one wants to admit they didn't work as hard as someone else. hence, they blame it on the other just being a genius or talented. This is also sometimes true for people who are accused of getting something, like a position, through connections. Of course, they could just be hardcore socialites.
