That is true. But his comprehension of those abilities was something that came from him, otherwise he wouldn’t have been able to use the martial paths better than their original users. You are right to assume, that most of his power came from others and I would agree that this might limit him in the future, but that just means he lacks originality. It feels like he will reach a bottleneck, when there are no more strong opponents for him to copy
I feel that the reason that’s being given is, that Tokugawa is a true genius, while rui is not particularly talented at martial arts with his mind being the “only” real advantage he has. I feel Tokugawa is a perfect whetstone for rui, as he is an amalgam of all martial arts. While rui is the perfect strategist and counter, Tokugawa is the perfect Allrounder. But for him it seems that our dear author had to tone down the strengths of martial bodies, since people relying solely on strength should have been able to beat him in the earlier stages of his path. That’s the only real problem I have with Tokugawa.
I believe chapters 2372 and 2373 may have gotten mixed up. It reads as if they were posted out of order.

I quite enjoyed seeing a little bit of our female leads growth. She has an interesting ability and i enjoy the applications it has
