i think it should be translation error. the san in tang san is pretty much similar to the number 3 in chinese. and then his age is 19 which is shi jiu when translated. put them together and san shi jiu = 39

no plan survives first contact with the enemy. i agree. whats more, in soul land, people have different martial spirits and different skills, gaining more skills every 10 levels as well as self developed skills that can alter their styles. so really, making complex plans seems illogical to me especially when battles are fast paced.
