Capítulo 31: Mischievous Spider

****(POV)

I keep following him until, finally, our destination appears. There is a big clear lake, a tiger, and that newcomer.

They seem to be playing with some trinkets. Whatever that is supposed to be, it occupies them. It seems they haven't noticed us yet.

Somehow the bear makes no noise at all. It seems he's truly progressed in his training. This is hard to believe but one needs to recognize the effort he puts into this.

Oh! This is a chance! Hehe. I am still a bit angry over the whole dummy thing.

Of course, I will be a mature and responsible individual and I won't take out my rage on him. After all, it was all a mistake. This doesn't mean that I'll refrain from pranking him haha.

I increase my speed while making sure I am unseen and unheard. The Bear seems to want to warn him, but he isn't fast enough to stop me. He could simply shout, but he is taking his silence training too seriously.

Then I jump toward him and grab him.

"BOO!"

I'm expecting him to be slightly surprised. Nope. He screams for his dear life. To be fair, from his point of view he can't see much.

He's begging for help. Lamenting that he doesn't want to die. He wants to kill me with fire? Doesn't he know this is my specialty?

If I had to describe it quickly, he is about to shit himself. Then he suddenly stops struggling.

Has he resolved himself to death? That was fast. Ah, it seems he finally recognized me. I smile at him.

"What was that about killing something with fire?"

[T-that, nothing. I thought I saw a monster and…]

"Do I look monstrous to you?! Don't you think I am a cute and beautiful young lady?"

"Enough human."

Wow. One could say he has a way with words. One could also argue that he is extremely shameless. One could also straight-up call him a kiss-ass. He was the one that was calling for my execution moments ago.

Guess he is afraid of me getting angry. It's fine really. I did try to scare him, and it worked. His face was priceless haha.

"Fine, I'll forgive you just this once."

He gives a relieved expression.

"But the next time it happens will be your last!"

[T-that, alright.]

Seeing him shaking a bit brings me joy somehow.

"Are you the one that sent the bear to get me?"

[Yes, we need your help! The old ghost told us to come and ask the siren, but she ran away and now…]

"Stop! One thing at a time. Also, why didn't you send the tiger instead? I almost burned the bear because of how he was sneaking around my territory. At least that cat isn't afraid to use his voice for greetings."

[Well, that's the thing. None of them can talk right now. None of them can produce any sound either.]

*Insert plenty of dialogues explaining the situation clearly in order to pad the word count…or not*

"I see. So now you need me to either find a way to solve the problem or convince the siren to resurface is that it?"

[Exactly!]

"Gotcha!"

Time to get to work it seems.

It is I, the one and only book demon! Did you guys miss me? I'm kidding. Of course, you did. I'm gonna haunt anyone that disagrees!

Now, why am I here? Well obviously, to increase my screen time. I mean c'mon. Wanna talk about what happens in the upcoming chapters?

Seems today won't be the day that I die! The spider not only released me but accepted my excuses too.

Seems all women are weak to praise. I guess that's why they say men lie. Because it works! Well, to be honest, I wasn't lying so much as exaggerating.

She is indeed perfect enough to crush the confidence of any professional model. I wouldn't go as far as rating her a goddess, but that's just because I never give full marks. You know, just so people don't get complacent.

Of course, surviving takes priority over that silly rule anytime. I used to have a teacher that would do that. It kept pissing me off. But then the older I got the more I realized true perfection doesn't exist.

I'm so relieved. All that stress that was building up evaporated. She turns toward the lake. I guess she will convince the siren.

"Get your fucking ass out or I'll evaporate that lake of yours you dumb goldfish!"
