"Basically what happened was, I stopped a robbery of that store over there, where we are heading towards" Ruby said, pointing towards the store across the street aptly named 'Dust 'till Dawn' before continuing on with the story, "and then I had the notorious criminal Roman Torchwick arrested before he could escape with his goons! With a little help from Professor Goodwitch of course, but still! It was epic!"
"So that's how you got into Beacon? You must be really gifted!" Subaru replied, laughing after hearing the story's summary of her story.
However, it was a laugh that was not directed at the tone of her voice when she told the story, which was similar to how a child would tell something they discovered or experienced to their parents after playing outside for half a day. Though it did make him admire her apparent innocence more than ever now. It was more or less a laugh pointed at his own weakness to do what she just did. But, he quickly put that self-loathing thought away by reminding himself of the words said by the woman who loved him more than anyone else.
"love yourself." Those were the words she had uttered around two years ago, when he was still mentally young and vulnerable, only wanting to save those around him but himself. He smiled fondly remembering that moment, and he internally thanked her for it, because now he could realize his own self worth after so long he had not. 'You really are amazing aren't you Subaru?' He said to himself
"Yup! Though not immediately! Professor Goodwitch had to scold me first about it before Professor Ozpin invited me in" She said, awkwardly chuckling after reminding herself of that memory.
He chuckled along as well, this time at how the story ended. Having to be scolded by one of the members of the group you always wanted to be a part of before being admitted to said group was something that he would think only exists in a fictional setting. But here he is, listening to said story from one of the people that directly experienced it.
A few moments after, both Ruby and Subaru continued on their walk and finally entered the store she was talking about. It was primarily a dust store, but after said dust robbery incident Ruby told him about, the shopkeeper had made a decision to add a small weapons display rack right next to the magazine section. Coincidentally it now sells whips as well, it could probably be that fate itself had decided to be in their favour, or Ruby is just that competent in remembering the details of the store she constantly visits. In any case, it's a preferable outcome for both of them.
While Subaru proceeded to take a look at the weapons display rack, he heard the shopkeeper at the counter muttering something about his scary eyes shocking him after he offered a handwave as a greeting. Ruby instead headed towards the magazine rack and grabbed a book, opening it immediately and turned to the page she was looking for. She smiled happily at the finding, before signalling to Subaru to come to her shortly after, "Hey Subaru! You might find this interesting, it may solve our problem as well!"
"What is it?" He said.
"Here it is! This is the page I was talking about when you were looking at a pet store selling an Iguana!" She responded, pointing at the page for him to look at. The statement that she made earlier however made him smile awkwardly.
The page describes details about dust infusion techniques and how it would work on different materials. Something that Subaru is not so well versed in currently. Both Ruby and the Nasty-Eyed boy quietly read the page, before Subaru began to speak up, confused as always, "How does it actually work here? It only described what the term is before showing an example pic!"
"Hmm, oh! Let me explain! Basically what the magazine is trying to say is that dust infusion is a complex and tedious process of applying dust permanently into an object, which is why it's so hard for me to upgrade your whip! The material is just too foreign!"
"Well I did say the whip was made from mabeast leather, specifically a Guiltylowe, which does not exist here at all. I heard they can be somewhat resistant to magic too but even my mentor was not certain, so I can understand why" He explained, reminding himself of the lesson made by Clind about the material his weapon, the Guiltywhip, is made out of. Apparently certain species of mabeasts can be resistant to some natural elements or even all types of magic altogether like the White Whale. He was lucky fire was something the Guiltylowe is weak against, if it ever had a certain resistance in the first place. However, if it's actually resistant to the fire element, that plan he made with Otto and Petra wouldn't have worked at all! That beast would still be roaming the mansion hunting them down when they were trying to evacuate.
"Ohh so that's why it's so hard..." She responded, "Say, do you want me to make you a new whip then? Or do you want your whip to be upgraded despite the material problem?"
"Uhhh, I would say that a new weapon is better over-"
He stopped mid sentence. He was now back at the weapon's display, near the glass paned shelf displaying the various kinds of weapons available at what seems to be mainly an ordinary dust store. Although, now it would be a hybrid of a weapons and dust store after the event Ruby told him had transpired in the past. He also noticed a sign saying 'Break the glass in case of another robbery!' Next to him, stuck to the glass pane of the display. He can see Ruby flipping through the pages of the magazine she was reading, she jumped in excitement at what she had just found, before she gestured to him to come over shortly after, "Hey Subaru! You might find this interesting, it may solve our problem as well!"
He was confused, appalled, internally shocked. His body froze for a moment as he tried to process the information that had suddenly transpired over his head. Subaru touched his face, he could feel goosebumps across his skin, yet he experienced no apparent remnants of pain. His pupils dilated, a look of shock spread across his face. From what was gathered by his confused and scattered mind, Natsuki Subaru had just experienced Return By Death.
Here the first inaccuracy to the RWBY plot was written, on purpose! An explanation for it is that something significant in the past occurred that basically causes a series of events that resulted in Torchwick getting arrested instead of escaping.
