99.46% Wretch: Exception To The Rule / Chapter 186: Next Time...

Capítulo 186: Next Time...

The future couldn't possibly get any brighter than it was for Lordlorn, with the defeat of the newly awakened monster king, it seemed to have put an end to the title's existence all together.

Superstes remembered Axio's words however, he had claimed that he would never truly die, it wasn't that the title of monster king had died with him, he had simply kept his title.

As for her, the heroine hadn't had much work, if one could say that dealing with remnants of Abyss a small job.

She was more focused on improving her manipulation and control of golden energy, there wasn't much else to do.

She couldn't find any good opponents however, coming out of the fight with Axiolypito, it was no surprise that none could come close to rivaling him, abominations and creatures of all sorts were sliced apart without any pity.

The abyssal flare used by Axio during their fight had truly reached even beyond the limits of Lordlorn, even infecting marine beasts with its corruption, so it was no surprise that a lot of people had died.

One may think that this colossal kill count would tarnish the brightness but it didn't, in fact, although it certainly wasn't his idea, Axio had slaughtered so many people that not a single kingdom or country was able to hold, all except for Roderst.

It still had its old king to govern it, assisted by Blouvier and the rest of the survivors, Roderman had made certain to put as many people into safety as possible, leading to Roderst becoming the only stable and safe place for anyone that had somehow managed to not get torn apart by corrupted monsters.

The future was bright, but it was still full of obstacles.

For starters, the Obsidian Queen had already begun her conquest of another continent and conquered many small islands, though most of the islands had most certainly been struck by the abyssal flare, it turned out that not all of the monsters infected by Axio died off after his own death.

The great majority collapsed into mush but some of the stronger ones managed to resist, leading to severe problems.

Such as the fact that many of the monster's inhabiting the oceans surrounding Lordlorn were already much too powerful to begin with, driven mad by Axiolypito, they no longer laid low and listened to their truest of instincts.

They had become nothing more than killing machines targeting anything that had no Abyss dwelling within them.

The risk that they would eventually learn how to spread the dark was also a concern.

Superstes was here to deal with them however, she had hoped that fighting mighty creatures of the deep in their own environment would provide an adequate challenge for her to progress thanks to but she had been mistaken.

Her increasing mastery over the gold had been granted to her for one single goal, fighting against Axiolypito, so its versatility when pushed to higher levels was supposed to allow her to keep up with whatever he could throw at her.

When he had taken their fights up into the air, he probably would have then thrown her into the waters afterward had he been allowed to.

She looked off into the distance, standing atop a still twitching, deep sea chimaera, struggling from the immense pain her golden blade inflicted, she sighed.

Staring at the rising sun, she could not help but realise that Axiolypito was on her mind at all times, the foul wretch occupied the majority of her thoughts.

There was no way for her to confirm whether or not his last words about his undying nature could possibly be true, but she had heard of the crystals from Sir Solitar, how the many apostles of Mov could interact and manifest through them.

She supposed that many of them were dead but somehow kept on existing, the crystals being only one conduit for them to invade other worlds.

Why did the apostles of Mov get to live forever? That was one question she could have asked herself, but she could be grateful that this was the case.

This way, she could pretend that she was hollow and unable to focus on anything because her revenge wasn't truly complete, because Axiolypito wasn't truly dead, that her parents hadn't been avenged.

It was reassuring, even if it should be clear that this wasn't the case, no one could make her doubt it for even a second.

It was the perfect outcome too, Axio would never die, so if she also became a phantom unable to truly die like him, she would simply fight again.

If she died a true death, then it was perfect, there would be nothing for her to pursue, she would stop thinking, she would stop existing, both outcomes benefited her.

The possibility that the first was true, like the wretch himself had believed, necessitated her to become stronger, learn more applications of the golden energy, always more strength, more speed, more countermeasures.

Even if they were both doomed to endlessly battle one another without any of them ever attaining a true victory, she wasn't going to lose.

Superstes's heart was burning with a desire to kill him again, and even as the years passed, as the landscapes changed around her, as old friends grew old, it never diminished.

Blouvier wasn't changing at all, which was to be expected, she had recovered completely from her exposure to death force.

Surprisingly enough, Reduvia had ended up joining up with her, probably because there were no more ruler of monsters, or perhaps because she deemed the life mage an adequate study partner.

There was no understanding the thoughts of a skeleton.

Accompanying Blouvier and Reduvia was the monster formerly known as Sovereign Of Flesh, just like Reduvia, she had managed to not be affected by the abyssal flare, the former because she was in pieces at the times and the latter because the strike had simply sent her into a deep chasm, where she had surrounded herself with other flesh slimes, shielding her.

As for her three teammates, the first three people to truly help her become who she was now, they were steadily growing older, whilst she was seemingly enjoying an increase in longevity, barey changing as the years went by.

Feuman and Cinla ended up getting married, which was surprising to her because she was completely oblivious to such things.

Lolianth never bothered to settle down and kept on adventuring until she grew too old to do so.

Seeing people age was... Bizarre to the heroine, she had only ever been around people that seemingly never aged and had lived for years upon years or the people she had known all died young.

She had forgotten that time alone was sufficient to kill living beings, only ever seeing death brought through brutal means and violence.

She failed to shed a tear for them still.
