Capítulo 40: Chapter 40 - Hope's Brainstorm (Edited)

Hank Pym and his daughter, Hope, clearly didn't get the joke, and Clark would not boast about his heroic deeds against evil forces for no reason. Upon hearing this, the former frowned and said, "What's this about looking for robbers all over the streets? What exactly is going on?"

"Just don't sweat the details!" Clark decisively changed the subject, saying, "I just didn't expect my parents to have such a precious treasure. It still feels incredible to me."

Hank, seizing the opportunity to show off, still felt somewhat unsatisfied and said, "Van Gogh's Sunflowers is a series of works, initially there were compositions of 12 and 14 pieces, with the 12 representing the twelve apostles of Christ, and the last two representing himself and his brother. However, given human limitations, Van Gogh spent his life completing only 11 of these."

As he said this, Hank's face showed a hint of regret, then he pointed to Clark's "Sunflowers" and said, "If I'm not mistaken, this should be the fifth piece in Van Gogh's series of fourteen Sunflowers."

"How can you tell?"

"It's a long story."

"Then don't bother. I wouldn't understand anyway," Clark waved his hand, indicating he wasn't very interested, "I had a bit of a problem with a USB drive; could you help me check it out?"

After securing the "Sunflowers," the three went to Clark's room.

Hank unhesitatingly sat down to crack the password, while Hope curiously asked Clark, "Your parents left this thing without telling you the password?"

Clark shrugged, indicating no.

"It doesn't matter." Without another word, Hank began to crack the password.

As it turned out, the computer skills of Clark's biological parents were quite average, at least when facing Hank Pym, they stood no chance. In less than a minute, the password designed by the world's top scientist was cracked.

Standing up, Hank patted Clark's shoulder and said, "There must be something very important to you in this video. You should watch it quickly; we won't get in your way."

After saying this, he left the room with Hope, who was somewhat gossip-curious but too embarrassed to stay.

Despite what was said, Hope didn't move at all, showing her curiosity.

Clark, however, didn't mind and generously said, "You can watch it too. I believe what my parents left me isn't something shameful."

Hope was delighted and quickly turned to the computer, while Hank calmly turned back, his expression still serious.

The three gathered around the computer screen as Clark opened the video document.

Appearing on the screen were Clark's parents, with the screen slightly shaky, likely filmed by his father holding the camera. The background seemed to be a closed room, perhaps a changing room in some public place, but Clark couldn't tell exactly.

"My dear Clark," his mother, Martha, was the first to speak, "By the time you see this video, your father and I will no longer be here."

"My child, we love you!"

"Get to the point!" Clark's father pushed Martha aside, complaining, "We're short on time, stop with the useless talk."

Then, turning to the camera, he said, "Your Uncle Sinclair, the journalist who loved to tease you, got into trouble. He obtained evidence of gang crimes but was spotted by the bad guys."

"Before he was done for, he hid the evidence and called to tell me. I intended to immediately inform your Uncle Marcus, but unfortunately, he was on a mission, all communication devices turned off. I felt we were being targeted too, so I could only leave this message in a bank's safe deposit box."

"After you see this video, you must quickly inform your Uncle Marcus. I hope by then, the message will still be useful."

"Listen carefully, the crime evidence is hidden in..."

After finishing, Clark's father took a deep breath, then added, "Also, the other black suitcase contains a Van Gogh Sunflower, forcefully given to me by your aunt. If you encounter difficulties, you can auction it off. If there's no insurmountable hardship, keep it as a family heirloom."

"That's it!"

Then, the screen shook, and Martha's face appeared again: "Baby, I love you!"

The video ended.

"Clark," Hope cautiously comforted, "They must have gone to heaven. Don't be too sad."

Clark shook his head, wiping away the tears at the corner of his eyes.

Despite not feeling too emotional, why were his tear ducts so uncontrollable?

It must have been the influence of the memories left by his predecessor.

But this was good, allowing him to understand this enmity and settle their karma.
