Capítulo 134: Chapter 134: The Weakened Widow

The night was cool as water.

The Widow sat on a branch of a winter melon tree, pressing her body as close as possible to the trunk behind her to minimize the possibility of making any noise.

At the same time, she pressed her left hand hard against the wound just below her ribs, which was only hastily bandaged. The warmth of her palm intensified the piercing pain she felt!

Yet, she had to do this to avoid letting the scent of blood on her body be detected.

Because not twenty meters from her, a leopard was roaming around, looking for food. And the enemy pursuing her was likely even more sensitive than the leopard! The Widow's hiding spot was not particularly concealed; on the contrary, it was less than five meters away from the road, a highly dangerous area. Choosing to hide here meant she had put herself in a desperate situation! But the more dangerous a place, the safer it might be. Sometimes, one has to be placed in a desperate situation to find a slim chance of survival! Because the spot was so close to the road, the pursuers would not pay too much attention to it. Moreover, the rotting smell from a nearby antelope carcass could effectively mask her scent of blood and also attract the leopard's attention.

This spot on the plains was the best hiding place she could find.

During a call with Nick Fury, she knew that Hill was also nearby, but her situation was not much better than hers, and perhaps even worse.

And S.H.I.E.L.D.'s support would not arrive here for at least another hour. Before then, all she could rely on was herself!

Just then, Natasha suddenly heard footsteps and instinctively held her breath. Listening carefully, she felt puzzled.

There was supposed to be only one person chasing her, but suddenly there were two sets of footsteps, and they were coming from a different direction than the pursuer.

Carefully turning her head, trying not to touch any of the leaves around her, she saw two figures approaching in the night, a man and a woman. Because they were backlit by the moon and some distance away, the Widow could not see their faces clearly.

The woman's figure seemed vaguely familiar, and the man was flamboyantly wearing a bright red cloak, which made him stand out under the moonlight. His flamboyance was comparable to a certain billionaire who loved flying around in an iron suit.

When the Widow noticed them, the hunting leopard also spotted the two humans, and its green eyes glowed with bloodthirst. It had actually found the antelope carcass earlier, but that was just its backup dinner. It preferred not to eat rotten meat unless necessary.

The sudden appearance of these two humans seemed much more appetizing than the antelope!

Sensing the leopard's gaze, the woman drew her pistol immediately, while the man simply turned his head, looking at the leopard with a smirk.

The leopard, as if frightened by their gaze, let out a whine and turned tail to flee without looking back.

The woman curiously asked, "How did you do that?"

Natasha sighed in relief; it was Hill's voice! The woman was Hill, and of course, the man was Clark.

Hearing Hill's question, he acted as if he had done something trivial, nonchalantly saying, "When you possess the strength to kill it with a single finger, you can easily do this."

Hill rolled her eyes, thinking not everyone could become as monstrous as him.

Clark's gaze then fell on the winter melon tree not far away, piercing through the layers of leaves to rest on the Widow hiding behind: "Miss Natasha, your hiding spot stinks too much. We won't come over, so you should come to us instead."

Natasha had already jumped down from the tree. The impact of landing made her wound hurt even more, but she still endured it without making any sound. She approached them with unsteady steps and whispered, "Can you two speak a bit quieter? He could catch up at any moment."

"Natasha, you're injured," Hill said, startled, then immediately asked, "Who is chasing you?"

The Widow's expression grew serious as she said, "Hill, you must have heard of the Winter Soldier."

Hill was shocked; it was him!

But Clark spoke dismissively, "You make it sound so serious, as if it's just a Winter Soldier."

Natasha looked at Clark strangely; he knew about the Winter Soldier and yet seemed so unconcerned?

Hill, on the other hand, was secretly relieved.

She had been slightly nervous at the mention of the Winter Soldier, but remembering Clark's presence, she realized that compared to him, the Winter Soldier really wasn't much of a threat.

"Clark, how much do you know about the Winter Soldier?"

"Much more than you might imagine," Clark said calmly. "His story is quite complicated and bizarre. To make you understand, I have to start from before he was born."
