Capítulo 3: Chapter 3 - New Home

As I walked down the empty sidewalk— my eyes peered from side to side— taking in the view that was the rustic town. Rustic wouldn't be the right word to describe it, but there wasnt anything else that came to mind when I thought of it.

Old? Classic? All words that may work to convey the way this town looks— yet not quite perfect for doing it justice. In short, the town felt like you would expect a small town of its size to feel— homey.

It felt like a community where everyone and their aunt knew each other.

The streets were relatively empty given the time of day— with only a few cars driving past me occasionally. The sidewalk is even emptier.

Throughout the entire 15 minutes I have been walking so far— I have yet to come across a single person on the sidewalk. I can only attribute this to a busy workday; along with the small number of people that lived in this town.

Just as these thoughts were dancing around my mind as if to prove me wrong, I spot a person ahead of me on the street.

A man that seemed to be in his mid-50s from the way he looked— his slight greying hair along with aged features. His clothing seemed older than him— like something my grandmother would wear.

I didn't pay much mind to him because I saw no importance in doing so. I decided that if the man spoke first, I would do the same. However, if he didn't, I would just be saving myself a hassle.

"Good day to you." Said the man as I walked past him. His voice was soft in tone with a friendly hint to it.

I was a bit surprised that he decided to speak up— let alone wait till I was almost past him before he did so— but I didn't let that show. With a pause of my legs, I spoke back.

"Good day to you too," I said with a friendly tone and smile. I may not like socializing, but if it was one thing I learned from my sisters, it was how useful a social image could be in blending in.

"I've not seen you around before, new to town perhaps?" The man asked as he turned to face me better. I could see his eyes observing my body. Not in a weird way, like you would get from some freaks.

He was simply trying to match my image to anyone from his memory to see if he knew me— which he naturally didn't.

I nodded to his question and responded, "Yep, just moved here with my family." His interest seemed peeked at what I said— but he didn't say anything that would give that away.

"I see, well then welcome to the town. I hope you have a good time here. Tell your family I said so, and they are free to drop by anytime for anything." He said with a smile on his face.

He soon turned and faced a bus that had arrived to collect him— saying one more thing before stepping on it, "See you around."

I didn't say anything in response and simply nodded— it was a fun little conversation. It was nice to meet the people of the town i was going to have to live in for the next year or two.

Once he had left, I continued with my trip home. Heading along the sidewalk— i didn't encounter another person throughout my entire walk home. Which was fine— i would have time to meet others later.

About 10 minutes later I arrived at my house. It was located in the better part of the town— so i had to go through the guarded gate to do so— but it was easy with my card.

Another way of saying my family is wealthier and better than others.

The house was a large two-story building, I wouldn't quite call it a mansion but it was differently close to one. It was white and blue in color— this wasn't our choice the house just came like that.

Around the house was walled off— with a large gate as the only way in or out. Between these walls and the house was a large garden. The back had a large pool that came with the house— a nice relaxation place i would say.

Enough about the outside of the house— let's just get this over with and go in.

Walking into the house i was instantly met with the fresh scent of sage— a sign that my mother was differently doing what she would like to call cleaning.

I heard the clatter of noises in one of the rooms in the back— which could only mean my family was there.

"I'm back," I said loud enough for anyone in the house to hear. It was only natural one alerted the people in the house that one was home.

As i walked to the back room to see what was going on, i saw my mother's head coming around the corner, greeting me with her same old look— serious.

"Welcome home, dear— so soon? What happened to classes." She asked as i walked closer to her.

This was my mother, Rowena Nyx Fay. I got my long black hair from her— and the looks. She was beautiful with a body that didn't look a day over 30 even though she was well over her 70s.

She would look even better if she wasn't so serious all the time— but i suppose some people like that.

Her attitude was mainly attributed to her being the head of the Coven— yes, that's right, Covens are matriarchs. This meant she had to keep the family safe from all sorts of dangers i didn't even know about— especially the hunters.

But getting into all of that now would just kill the mood— so let's return to the good stuff.

"I decided to come back early because i didn't have any of my books. Plus, there weren't a lot of classes today anyways." I said in response to her question— which seemed to get her off my back.

She never cared much about my academic studies anyways— she always said it was a waste of time when you could just use magic for anything.

But i still take my academics seriously because i don't want to have to rely on my magic for everything in life— plus my father would kill me if i ever came home with a grade lower than B.

Speaking of my father—

"Honey, you're home. Welcome back— did you have fun? Made any new friends?" I heard a male voice coming from ahead of me as i entered the backroom— which was filled with boxes.

There he stood, a somewhat short man with brown hair that looked like he could easily fit the role of a principal in a show, yet he was as sweet as candy. My father, Alius Ezin Fay.

My father has always been much nicer than my mother— with his bubbly attitude and kind heart— i sometimes wonder how they ended up together— but they never told me.

He may be a witch— but he always agreed with me about not relying on magic for everything. He was the person i was closest to within my entire family. At least of the family i still have around.

"Friends? Maybe, i met another Becky, so that's interesting." I said with a smile as i walked over and gave him a hug— which he returned lovingly.

"Well, i just hope you have fun this time around. I know the last move was rough for you, but this is a new start. Alright?" He said as he moved away from the hug— rustling my head like he usually does.

I frowned at his words slightly— but quickly fixed a smile on my face so that he wouldn't worry. He had enough to worry about— i didn't want to add another reason to that list.

"Of course, dad. Why don't i help you with unpacking?" I suggested as i walked along with him to the boxes to help sort them out. Boxes filled with everything we take with us when we move— some have even been with us since the first move.

"That would be lovely, dear. Helena is currently helping out— she's upstairs." He replied with a grateful tone.

He went back to work unpacking the boxes while i noticed my mother heading out of the room from the corner of my eye— she was always up to something.

"Helena's home? I thought she had work today?" I asked with raised eyebrows. Helena was one of my sisters— older sisters that is.

Helena Hazel Fay, that was her full name. She was one of my older sisters along with her twin, Cassandra Agnes Fay. They were older than me by around 30 years— yet they act no different than your average college dropout.

I love them— they are family after all— but they can be a mess sometimes. Always getting on my father's nerve with their misuse of magic and the trouble they cause.

Once they went as far as cursing someone they didn't like just because that person was dating a guy they had an interest in. Messy stuff if you ask me.

"Oh well if it isn't my cute baby sister!" I heard a voice exclaim from behind me— causing me to turn around to see who it was.

I already knew who it was.
