Capítulo 13: No Choice

Selena's POV

"I don't want to do it anymore, Stan. I gave up; I was not interested in watching that concert anyway. I can watch my idol later on youtube." I said the moment I got inside his car after we bought flowers for his mom. It was her death anniversary today.

"Hey, what is going on?" He asked, and I could see the worried look on his face.

"Nothing, your brother infuriated me, and I don't think he really likes me, and I am sure your plan will fail," I responded as I could feel the pain in my heart. I was not in the mood the entire day after I saw Sky hugging Erika at the gym earlier this morning.

"Can you tell me what this is all about? I could tell you were still on the same page with me last night after we arrived in our estate from Cawayan." He responded.

I wished to tell Stanley I had seen his brother and girlfriend cozy with each other early morning, and I couldn't stop feeling jealous.

We were on our way to the cemetery, and I was watching the road feeling worried if it would rain since I could see dark clouds in the sky.

"You were wrong about your brother's feelings for me. Stanley, Skyler doesn't like me at all." I replied as I leaned my back on my seat.

"Why are you so sure he didn't like you when I saw you and him kissing each other," he said, and I blushed.

"Come on, Stanley, it was only a kiss, and I knew the reason why he kissed me. We made out since he wanted to tutor me," I replied, and Stan laughed.

"And why do you think my brother would do that, Selena? Come on, don't be so naive. Do you think he will do that because of that stupid reason? You don't need a tutor, and if you want to experience it, I would be your kissing tutor." He said, and I coughed.

"It would be gross, Stan; I couldn't imagine myself kissing you," I replied.

"Me too, and why did you allow my brother to kiss you, Selena? You had been telling me

you reserved your first kiss for your prince charming, don't tell me you got hooked by Skyler?" He asked, and I shook my head.

"No, I was only curious how to be kissed by the most popular guy on campus," I replied, trying to keep myself from blushing remembering the sweet kisses I shared with Skyler.

"And?" He asked.

"I don't feel anything at all, and I wondered why those girls are crazy with your elder brother," I responded, and I was beginning to become a perfect liar.

"You don't like the kiss you shared with Sky?" He asked, and I could tell he was doubtful.

"Believe me, it was nothing to me, and they said when you kissed the one you like, you could feel the hair on your skin stand up, and thankfully it didn't happen to me when I kissed Skyler." I lied again since I could still feel the way Sker kissed me.

I knew the first time he kissed me, all the hair in my whole body stood up, and I didn't want to think about how my stomach felt that night. It was a fantastic feeling, and I knew right then and there that I loved Skyler even if I couldn't have him in my life.

"That is good news, and I was worried if you were falling for my brother, I would be the one to stop you if it happened, Selena." He said and looked at me with a solemn expression on his face, and I laughed.

"Not in a million years, Stanley; I know your brother's reputation; besides, I know he wasn't the type of guy who would commit, especially to someone like me," I responded, and he only shook his head as he continued driving.

"Why does it feel like you weren't happy about yourself, Selena? I mean, you have low self-esteem, you are beautiful, and you should know it by now." He said, and I beamed at him.

"That would be a line coming from my best friend, and thank you for always making me feel beautiful, Stan, but you don't need to say that because I know what I look like," I replied.

"If you do, can you tell me exactly what you look like?" He asked as he made a side glance.

"I am an ordinary girl who lives on his best friend's property, I am not smart, and most of all, I am not attractive," I responded, and he let out a heavy sigh.

"What a pity. Don't you know many of Sky's friends wanted to court you?" He asked, and I flushed right away.

"Stop it, Stanley. I will never believe you anyway," I said as I shook my head, unable to believe he would exaggerate things.

I looked at the sidewalk wishing it could be true, but those hot basketball players would always have eyes with the hottest girls on campus, while girls like me would never be on their radar.

I could see students walking with their peers, and some girls were walking, holding hands with their boyfriends.

"I couldn't force you to believe me, Selena, but you can always ask Skyler if I was telling the truth." He replied.

"Why would I ask your brother about it?" I asked.

"Because he was the one who warned them

to stay away from you," he replied, and his words took me off guard. I fell silent until we reached the cemetery.

Stanley handed me the cash and told me to give it to the security guard of the memorial park. I couldn't believe he would bribe the guard so he could still get inside the cemetery. He only dropped me off since he needed to pick up something for his dad. I could familiarize the way toward his mom's grave.

It was so quiet, and I suddenly felt worried that the rain would fall since I didn't have an umbrella with me. I wished to ask Stanley where is his brother, but I didn't want him to suspect that I've got feelings for his brother.

I could hear my footsteps on the pavement as

I walked faster while the soft wind caressed my skin. I couldn't stop feeling happy knowing Sky cared for me.

I knew Stanley wasn't lying when he told me about those basketball players who were interested in me, and I couldn't stop thinking that maybe his brother was really into me; that is why he stopped his teammates from courting me.

I was still upset with Sky, and I didn't want to see his handsome face; I knew I didn't have any right to feel this way, but I couldn't help feeling jealous of Erika.

"Hi, Mrs. Alcarazo; I wish I'd got the chance to know you," I mumbled as I put the flowers on the ground.

"Stanley said you were the best mom, and I could tell your boys are so lucky to have you as their mom. They always speak highly of you, and I wish you were still alive since you don't deserve to die early. It was unfair that you have to die young." I declared as I pulled out some weeds near her epitaph.

"Do you want to know a secret?" I asked, and I laughed since I knew she couldn't talk back to me.

"I am crushing your eldest son while I didn't tell my best friend about it, and I knew it was wrong and crazy; I felt guilty that I was lying to your youngest son since I knew he would be against it, and I don't want to tell him I was falling for Skyler," I added.

"I never tell anyone about this secret, and you are the first one, Mrs. Alcarazo." I continued as I smiled, feeling happy that, at last, I could share my biggest secret and fantasy; it was sad since she couldn't answer me. I know she was somewhere listening to me.

My dad had told me that the dead would become the guardian angels of their loved ones, and I am sure Mrs. Alcarazo in heaven was watching over her sons.

I was talking to their mom until I heard incoming footsteps, and I could feel the loud beating of my heart when I saw Skyler. I averted his gaze instantly, and I only talked with his brother.

"What? Don't do this to me, Stanley, not now," I said after my best friend told me I would be riding with Skyler. Being alone with his brother was the last thing I wanted to do. I hated him for flirting with Erika.

"Please, this is the only way to prove my point, Selena; you need to be with Sky any chance you can get, besides I needed to see Dayana," he whispered after he put his arm around my shoulders, and I felt so conscious knowing his brother was walking behind us.

"Okay, with two conditions," I whispered back.

"What are your conditions, Selena?" He asked.

"I will sit at the back of his car, and I will not spend my night at your house, give me time to think it over. You told me I have a choice not to do it, right?" I asked my best friend, and he slowly nodded his head.

"Of course, it was only a bet; besides, I will never force you to do anything against your will, you are my best friend, and you know me, Selena." He said and let me go, and he waited for his brother while I continued walking faster since I was afraid to speak with Skyler again.

When we reached the parking lot, I got inside Skyler's car feeling thrilled and angry with myself that I was excited to be alone with him even after I saw him so sweet with Erika.

I felt so nervous when the car suddenly stopped as we neared the archway of their mansion, and I knew I had no choice but to answer Sky's question.
