[Zhang Yi POV]
As soon as Chen Xu finished speaking, Everyone below buzzed with excitement. In a few sentences, he revealed the news.
Both games have a mobile version. One can download them directly here at the exhibition.
Plus, there's even a final program planned before the exhibition ends.
Honestly, most of us aren't concerned about the finale show. Sure, Neon Games has released some popular titles, but they're not blockbusters, nor anything electrifying.
The best part, Overall! We can try games without wasting our time standing in line!
All eyes turned to the big screen at Neon Games' exhibition area. Where game trailers were playing. A huge QR code will pop up from time to time, inviting us to scan and download.
Everyone gathered around and took out their phones, eager to download and share the QR code with friends and group. After all, isn't the whole point of coming here to snatch, to experience new games firsthand?
Now, here is the chance to jump right in, no waiting is required! Most of the guys started by scanning and downloading Three Kingdoms Charge. For them, it was way more appealing than JellyMan, which looked cute, and fluffy.
Of course, the Three Kingdoms Charge theme is a big draw. But for many girls, the adorable JellyMan was way more tempting.
Not everyone followed the same path, though. Some guys went for JellyMan first, drawn by its charm, while some girls dove into Three Kingdoms.
Some players were also lining up to compare to play the PC version.
Meanwhile, a few of us chose not to use our phones, opting to play face-to-face with physical cards. After all, board games are way more fun that way.
Since we arrived early, our group had the chance to experience the show in the lead.
We all are part of the Three Kingdoms Charge team and were lured into it after reading some introductions.
Three Kingdoms Charge allows exactly five players, which fits us.
On the other hand, JellyMan only allows a maximum of four players per team, and solitary competition tends to split players up, so we decided to try Three Kingdoms Charge first.
We were still a bit resistant, and hesitant. Well... Why???
Although my previous experiences were full of relaxation, happiness, harmony, and love, I couldn't shake the feeling that the actual gameplay might be different.
Instead of the physical card. We chose the PC version for convenience. The staff explained that with physical cards, you have to read all the rules yourself. While the video game version includes a beginner's guide, which enables better game understanding.
After a simple opening animation, we dived into the game.
They didn't add too many complicated animations in the opening of Three Kingdoms Charge—it's a simple comic-style display of the game's assets. After all, it's a board game.
We started with an endgame battle, where I played the lord. Liu Bei is my general.
"The dubbing is amazing! And the visuals are rather impressive!" I murmured with appreciation.
I don't have much experience with card games, although if we're counting MaoMao, then maybe I've played one.
But I could feel some unique touches in Three Kingdoms Charge.
For instance, when a successful kill attack occurs, the red heart representing the health bar decreases, accompanied by a burst of sword light hitting the general's portrait—powerful stuff.
The sound effects and visual feedback are spot-on.
As health reduces, the general's portrait gets splattered with blood spots, and as health further drops, it even shows scars.
Whether in good condition or injured, the general's appearance changes to reflect their current state.
Different equipment cards also come with unique effects, making this card game feel far more engaging.
Following the game's tutorial mode, we followed the system prompts to get a feel for the basics.
The main goal is to get the game's basic operations and how the various cards function.
After all, Three Kingdoms Charge centers around card battle rules as its primary gameplay.
If the system of guidance in this area is not in place, it will be difficult to understand where the fun of this game lies.
Similarly, the big screen in the "Three Kingdoms" area of the exhibition is also showcasing Zhang Yi's game experience.
While waiting in line, I notice others whispering about the performance of "Three Kingdoms."
"It's a bit like MaoMao!"
"This is much more complicated than MaoMao!"
"Yeah, and I think playing as a traitor is so some shit. Everyone else is two, only I am one."
"I can't say that. Think about who you help—the lord or the anti-thief. Whoever has the advantage has an edge. Isn't this very emotional?"
"What if both camps target me?"
"Then whoever hits me first, I'll help the other side kill them!"
"I feel that the traitor mainly needs to control the field. Whether it is killing a loyal official or a rebel, the other person must cooperate with the traitor. Otherwise, they will lose directly."
"The reward for the traitor's victory should be better then."
"No, four in a row!"
"Look, the lord has one more skill! One more blood!"
Although I can download and play, I still choose to watch the game performance on the big screen instead.
The overall rules of Three Kingdoms Charge are not difficult to grasp. This kind of novice teaching will help players like me understand the basic content.
For example, the camp has basic operations such as kill, dodge, peach, equipment cards, and the attack distance brought by horses.
As for some more advanced operations, such as skills and cooperation, crossing the river, demolishing the bridge, pulling the sheep, and other things, these will be covered in follow-up branch tutorials.
In the exhibition experience, there is no need to release these contents.
After the official version is launched, I can earn rewards for generals and a permanent skin by completing these sideline tutorials.
This can also be regarded as a three-pronged approach to multiplayer online games.
They first give rewards for task completion, then they, help us understand the game through tasks, and offer rewards to keep us engaged.
This kind of routine is overused by mobile games in the past.
This mode essentially involves 100 consecutive draws when the server opens, 60 consecutive draws upon server launch, and includes both orange and gold cards.
They even developed an industry out of it. Specialized studios create multiple accounts, taking advantage of the continuous draw rewards and then selling those accounts.
I have to admit, that this approach is highly effective. At least in the early stages of the game, it's very appealing to players like me.
