Capítulo 39: Chapter 39

“Men of two spirits,” whispered the brave.

“Holy shit. Tatanka, be careful.”

Tatanka ignored Lee and addressed the old man again. “Yes, grandfather, we are of two spirits. I believe I am Winkte.”

Lee had a quick intake of breath. What was Tanka thinkin’?

The old man’s eyes widened. “Come,” he said and turned to the buildings. Tatanka started forward. Lee and Sleeps With Dog hung back. “Come all of you,” the old man said again. “We will talk.”

The crowd of people parted; the old man leading the way to one of the buildings. Three men had followed and took charge of the four horses as the party entered through a blanket hanging on the doorway. Inside, it was cool and dim. As his eyes adjusted to the dark, Lee saw there were shelves lined with bowls and tools. Pegs were driven into the walls, on which hung clothing and blankets, but no furniture. Blankets were also spread on the floor.

The old man sat on the blankets and indicated Lee, Tatanka and Dog should do the same.
